Today we kick off our March batch of shows and each month we keep throwing more gas on the fire with amazing guests and today’s show is no different!

Abby Tompkins with Keller Williams Realty may literally be one of the kindest people in all of real estate. She has also proven that nice girls don’t finish last as she managed to increase her business by nearly 60% in 2020 as her practice continues to thrive.

We also took this opportunity to debut a new segment that we’re calling Legends of the Game. Our first ever legend is Henry Turley who founded Henry Turley Company back in the 70s and you would struggle to find someone that’s had as much of impact on Downtown living as Henry has had. He was redeveloping Downtown Memphis before it was cool to do so and is responsible for more condos and apartment buildings then I can count. It was an honor to be able to learn more of Memphis’ history from a man who not only witnessed it, but was right there helping shape the city we know today.

He managed to moved to the city without having worked a day as a commercial real estate broker and rise up to the rank of President and Managing Broker of the commercial division here in Memphis. We discussed fishing sunken boats out of lakes, why preleasing is a challenging endeavor, and gave me some tips on prospecting for commercial real estate clients.

There are some people you meet that are just significantly cooler than you no matter how hard you may try and other people that have a future so bright, you can’t wait to watch the next season of their life. I was lucky enough to have one of each of those people on the show this week.

Leon Dickson Sr. has won basically every trophy that exists in real estate on top of running his highly successful brokerage, BenchMark at Southwind Realtors. He’s lived a pretty amazing life and I’m thankful for the peak behind the curtain of some of the things that happened that got him to this point.

Our show this week featured a ton of really fun conversation with one agent that just wrapped up a career year and another who is breaking the mold for Key Exchanges as the first commercial only broker who doesn’t sell residential at all. This is also part two of “Michael Jordan Flu Game” so you’ll have to forgive the inconsistency of my voice.

Katrina Grubb with McWaters & Associates is quickly moving up my favorite people list. I honestly couldn’t quite put my finger on the reason initially, but her kind heart, selfless nature, and freakish drive are some of the reasons why she won me over. I’m not alone in that feeling either as Katrina finished 2020 in the top 100 realtors in the city in just her third year in the business. Our conversation spanned from her love of remodeling old Germantown houses to her equally as passionate love for the movie Aquaman.

Dustin Jones with TSCG was one of the first commercial brokers that I was able to meet as I was launching my career. This conversation with him allowed me to see that real estate transactions aren’t always just a buy and a sell as his role as a Leasing Advisor rarely has him involved with property deeds changing hands. My guests this week were awesome, but their places in my in my real estate life couldn’t be more different.

Fara Captain is the owner of Captain & Co Real Estate and was probably one of my first close friends in real estate 5 years or so ago. I would imagine a ton of people have said similar things about her before because she’s very intentional about going out of her way to make people feel like they belong and investing deeply into people. On top of being my friend though, she’s a killer realtor who launched Captain & Co just a couple of years ago and is already a finalist for the Memphis Business Journal’s Executive of the Year.

Nick Lee is someone that’s much newer in my life and someone that if I’m being honest, I wasn’t fully sure what his day to day looked like before our chat. He is owner of Advanced Appraisal Services and before I really knew much about what he actually did, I knew his reputation was that he was phenomenal at his job. I know many agents have experienced his work but very few knew the man behind it so I was excited to get to peel back the curtain a little bit in our conversation today.
