Show notes
On this Monday edition of That Football Show, Matt Verderame and Tucker Franklin dive into the news that Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will not face a suspension for the upcoming 2026 season. After serving a six-game ban in 2025 related to his 2024 legal troubles, Rice is officially cleared to lead the room in the final year of his rookie contract. But does this ruling actually change Brett Veach’s plans for the upcoming NFL Draft?
The guys break down the current state of the wide receiver room—featuring Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Jalen Royals—and debate whether the "startlingly thin" depth chart still necessitates a high-round pick. Plus, we look ahead to the Chiefs' looming 2027 contract crunch and the creative accounting keeping Travis Kelce on the roster.
In this episode, we discuss:
The Rashee Rice Ruling: Why the NFL decided against a suspension and what it means for Rice’s availability in 2026.
Draft Strategy: Does having Rice for 17 games take the pressure off drafting a receiver at the end of Round 1?
Wide Receiver "Would You Rather": Tucker and Matt look at three different mock drafts, including the latest from Mel Kiper, to see which prospects fit the Chiefs' evolving offense.
Tangent Alert: Matt’s "lasagna brick" Easter meal and the ongoing beef between the Knicks and Stephen A. Smith.
