How to be a disruptor with Jezzibell Gilmore Jul 31, 2019
    Show notes

Often we are told that we should accept that status quo. The way things are done is the best way to do them. But what happens when you see a different solution or path to reinvent a space. This is what Jezzibell Gilmore is doing with her company Packet Fabric. PacketFabric is changing network services. Today's network infrastructure is much like the electrical grid; it's lagged behind the rest of world, and hasn't kept pace with advancements in technology. Procuring network services to provision simple services to move data from one point to another takes months of work and man power. We're talking months of preparation and operational cost - all to move data from Los Angeles to New York in 65 milliseconds.
Jezzibell was an early stage employee of AboveNet Communications and Akamai Technologies, and previously served as VP of Operations at RoamData, as well as VP of Business Development for GTT. Now she has co-founded Packet Fabric and serves as their SVP Business Development.

    About Jonathan Gill
A kid teaches himself how to program computers to analyze audio and make a music portal. That kid goes on to start a record label (votes in the Grammy Awards), goes to business school... then becomes a Technical Architect at a semiconductor company, is a co-inventor on a database security patent, only to return to audio to fix problems in podcasting as an adult. Backtracks takes a long view of understanding the historical progression of advertising and measurement and applies that to podcasting and spoken word audio. All the lesson of Jonathan's past and entire industries are applied to Backtracks. At an early age, he knew his business is culture. Almost everything he has done professionally has a thread of expressing culture and communication through the combination of audio, advertising, analytics, and software.

    About Dani Zoldan
An entrepreneur since 19 years old, Dani is most passionate and comfortable when navigating in uncharted waters and have applied that mindset to his numerous business ventures. While in college, he founded the online music company Eargazmic.com. Merging his love of music and computers (we called it computers back then, not technology), he created a website where independent bands and musicians can use the website to promote and sell their music. Each artist had their own web page which consisted of photos, a bio, upcoming tour dates and links to purchase MP3’s. He ended up dropping out of New York University to focus on the business full-time but ultimately closing the business in 2003.
In 2004, when phone carriers starting utilizing voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and routing their traffic over internet lines instead of phone lines, he decided to experiment with that technology and built an IP connection from his apartment closet (that’s closet, as in where you put clothes) to Trinidad & Tobago and successfully was able to make long distance phone calls but paying local (Trinidad) prices. This experiment launched Titan International, which ultimately became a big player in selling wholesale long distance services to phone companies. Verizon, China Telecom, TATA Communications and many phone companies around the world relied on their services.
Not stimulated by the telecom business so much anymore, in 2008 he purchased Stand Up NY, the famous comedy club on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Stand Up NY made its name in the 80’s and 90’s with many of the world’s best comics known to frequent the club including Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Louis CK and Jon Stewart. Dani purchased the club with one of his best buddy’s Gabe Waldman (also an aspiring comic), hired Steve Lewis, (the infamous New York club operator/designer) and gave Stand Up NY a major makeover. Today, the club is home to many current A-listers including Amy Schumer, Michael Che, Pete Davidson and Judah Friedlander.
In 2013, with his co-founder Jon Fatigate, we created Stand Up NY Labs, a comedy incubator. They successfully launched several hit podcasts including Tuesdays with Stories, Race Wars, The Jtrain podcast and In the Conversation which can can be found on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and SoundCloud. In 2015, Cadence13, an audio engagement company invested in their company and currently ad-rep their network.
At the end of 2016, Stand Up NY launched Skitish Media which creates short, funny, and shareable video content for brands and media agencies.
In 2018, Dani created Stand Up NY Education in partnership with Teachable and produced its first online course called The Tight Five which consists of a 20 video course curriculum taught by 7 professional comedians. The same year, Dani started LaughPass - the first annual subscription to comedy clubs. LaughPass holders receive unlimited access to comedy shows plus a bunch of amazing perks.
In 2019, Dani launched Podcast Row. The mission is to connect entrepreneurs to their favorite podcasters to help them share their story.
Dani currently reside on the Upper West Side with my wife Billie, an orthodontist and three children - Bradyn, Sydney, Ryder and their cat Lola.

The world of drones is taking off in new and innovative ways. What was once impossible is now possible. So how will drones impact our every day lives? Derek Waleko and the team at Up Sonder is answering that very question. They have created the AirBNB for the Drone Industry. Investing in Startups with Chuck Pettid Jul 12, 2019
    Show notes

Have you ever wondered how you could invest in the next big startup? Investing in startups can be complex. Where do you find trustworthy startups? How can you invest in their ideas and dreams? On Today's show we chat with Chuck Pettid, CEO of Republic Funding Portal. Republic was founded by alumni of AngelList, the world's largest online investment platform for accredited investors, following the passing of the JOBS Act in May 2016. With this new legislation, non-accredited investors (the majority of the US population) could invest in startups for the very first time--but the complicated legal requirements called for a founder and investor-friendly platform to make startup investing truly accessible.
Republic was built with this mission in mind. They're SEC-registered, FINRA-licensed and part of a large family of startup platforms together with AngelList and Product Hunt. Additionally, while they welcome all kinds of entrepreneurs, Republic specifically encourages startups with diverse teams and backgrounds to apply to raise with them. They're proud to report that last year, 25% of all investments made on Republic went to companies with founders of color (compared to 1% among traditional VCs), while 44% went to companies with at least one female founder (compared to 13% among VCs.) Diversity and inclusion are core parts of their mission and they believe that hidden gems can be found where the masses aren't looking.
