Today we discuss Part Two of the book based on the author's personal story of choosing divorce, Untamed by Glennon Doyle. In this section, Ms. Doyle outlines her Four Keys, which are Feel, Know, Imagine and Let It Burn. Part 2 begins with the author sharing her story discovering she is unmarried & pregnant at age 26. This was when she began to live in a story she created about how to do motherhood & family "right". She held tightly to the perfect image of how she "should be" and how she lost herself within her marriage. By acknowledging her emotions, intuition, imagination & courage, she rebuilt her life into the truest, most beautiful version possible. Her story could easily be a guide for the tools needed through all big life transitions including & especially divorce. Tune in while Karen & KP discuss this beautifully written and impactful book.

High Conflict Divorce: The Plight of Adult Children Aug 22, 2022
    Show notes

Adult children are often overlooked and forgotten when their parents divorce later in life. They are men and women, ages 18 to 50. Some are single; some married. Some have children of their own. All of them are in different stages of shock, fear, and sudden, dramatic change.

As adults, their parents tend to overlook, minimize or diminish feelings and struggles around their parent's divorce. And their parents are more apt to rely on them for emotional, practical or financial support. Today we explore the impact divorce has on adult children, how healthy boundaries can assist both adult children and divorcing parents and other issues to be aware of as well as strategies for handling this difficult season for everyone involved.

With me today are Bruce Fredenburg and Carol Hughes, two mental health experts who have decades of experience in the divorce arena and have co-authored the book "Home Will Never Be the Same Again: A Guide for Adult Children of Gray Divorce"

High Conflict: An App that Simplified Coparenting! Aug 15, 2022
    Show notes

If you have young children, there is an ongoing need to communicate with your coparent about the business of raising your children.

For many high conflict divorces, we know this ongoing communication will be an invitation to more conflict and contention.

Today's guest explains that it doesn't have to be that way.

Michael Daniels is the founder and CEO of FAYR a modern-day coparenting app which stands for Family Advocacy is Your Responsibility.

FAYR is by no means the only digital coparenting option available, but it is one of the first APPs and therefore, offers you the ability to manage your coparenting needs while on the go...using your digital devices.

Michael explains how the app addresses 4 key areas that require ongoing communication with your ex and how using the app invites less talking and disagreement and more ease and clarity. The areas include scheduling, expense tracking, messaging, his uniquely designed geo check-in feature.

JBD Team Talks: The Liberating Power of a Positive NO Aug 12, 2022
    Show notes

Can understanding how to say "no" in a new and more productive way benefit relationships, even those headed for or in the midst of some stage of the divorce process? In this team talk Karen and Lisa will discuss how "no" can improve relationships and share how to prepare and deliver beneficial "no's".

How we say "no" determines how well our "no" is received. Saying "no" skillfully is ever more significant during the critical conversations that occur leading up to, during, and post divorce. "No" delivered without skill alienates and angers. A consciously constructed and delivered "no" enhances the respect we have for ourselves, the way others perceive us, and improves relationships. Well delivered "no's" relieve a significant amount of the stress and expense for everyone involved during the divorce process and the reconstruction period post divorce. This is a skill that will benefit you immensely as well as set a healthy example for everyone around you.

Today's Team Talk was inspired by " The Power of a Positive No" by author William Airy.

Bob faced a true emotional Tsunami as he found himself divorced and out of a job within three weeks of his wife asking for a divorce. The journey from that dark place included looking at his fear of losing his children, shame and self doubt based on his religious upbringing and a destructive habit he used to regulate himself and a deep sense of financial insecurity.

Bob shares the work he did, the amazing place he is in now with great relationships with each of his kids and enjoying getting back out into the dating world as a better version of himself and therefore meeting and dating interesting women. High Conflict: What to know about Parent Coordinators Aug 08, 2022
    Show notes

A Parent Coordinator (PC) helps mediate and resolve disputes between parents in high conflict divorces. A PC is often a vital support both during and post divorce. If you find it impossible to make joint decisions with your STBX and virtually every interaction turns into a struggle or a power play, this podcast is for you!!

Parent Coordinators can be mental health experts, attorneys or mediators. What they all have in common is their training as a parent coordinator with the ability to help parents stay child centers and learn how to collaborate. When that isn't possible, the PC can be the tie-breaker. The challenges you are facing with your co-parent will inform what PC expert would be best for your situation and how detailed your settlement agreement should be regarding the PC's involvement and authority.

Dr. Lauren Behrman shares a wealth of information on what a parent coordinator is and is not, the value of involving them in the process during the divorce, the questions you want to ask in order to choose the right PC, and so much more!

Dr. Behrman has her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and has been in private practice since 1985 and has considerable professional experience in treating children and families of divorce. Lauren is trained in High-Conflict Co-parent Counseling, Parent Coordination, Interdisciplinary Collaborative Divorce Practice and Mediation. Dr. Behrman co-authored "Loving Your Children More Than You Hate Each Other", a book for high conflict divorcing parents which was published in 2018.

Healthy Romantic Relationships: The Transformational Power of the Enneagram in Life and Love Aug 05, 2022
    Show notes

Today we are diving into a new paradigm I recently began learning about, the Enneagram which was created in 1915 and refined in 1960 to include the 9 personality types.

The Enneagram is a system of nine interconnected personality archetypes or types. It describes three "centers of intelligence," nine personality "types," and twenty-seven "subtypes" that provide an amazingly accurate picture of personality in terms of the patterns associated with the way we function.

Understanding your personality type and the type of those you are in relationship with…your spouse, kids, siblings, etc. opens an opportunity to lower our judgment and raise our acceptance of ourselves and others. The end result, the Enneagram, guides you to become the healthiest and most self-compassionate version of yourself and enables you to navigate all your relationships with more mastery.

With me today is Stephanie Barron Hall, author of "The Enneagram in Love: A Roadmap for Building and Strengthening Romantic Relationships." Stephanie has an M.A. in Organizational Communication & Leadership), is a speaker, certified Enneagram coach, and in 2017 founded @NineTypesCo, her Instagram page designed to to explore her own interest in the Enneagram, and support a growing community of people who are learning about the Enneagram, themselves, and their relationships together. Stephanie specializes in bringing clarity to complex concepts and communicating the Enneagram in a way that is relatable and concise so that it can be transformative for all.

High Conflict Divorce: Parallel Parenting with A Narcissist Aug 01, 2022
    Show notes

Today we speak with a guest who explains that Parallel Parenting IS Co-parenting, it is simply a more effective approach to high conflict co-parenting. The refreshing tone of this conversation acknowledges how unreasonable it is to expect to be able to follow the amicable co-parenting rules when your parenting partner is 'disordered' and has proven incapable of any form of collaboration or joint decision making.

Brook Olsen share brilliant strategies to not only successfully, but joyfully parent your children regardless of your co-parent's behavior. Tune in as he shares the importance of self regulating your nervous system and ultimately how to help your children do the same, how less communication or more valuable, the power of No and the vital importance of learning how to set and uphold boundaries.

This conversation is chuck full of sage advice, helpful information and essential strategies. Below you can find out more about Brook Olsen, his podcast, online parent classes and more.
