JBD Team Talks - Choosing Holiday Traditions During Divorce Dec 23, 2022
    Show notes

One of the many aspects of our lives that changes during divorce is the way we spend the holidays and more specifically, holiday traditions. Today Karen talks about how to make the decision about what to keep, what to let go of and what to add that is new.

A key element in making a healthy choice is to consider what your choice is based on. Are you choosing based on what others want you to do? Based on your anger and resentment? Or perhaps on your fear of disagreeing with your STBX or ex? The best way to choose is to first determine your priorities and values around the holidays and your children.

Next, if you are letting some things go and adding new ones, that can be fun and exciting and add to the newness of this next chapter of life. Karen shares a few choices she made, some that were difficult and others that were unique and creative.

JBD Team Talks: Nesting - what is it and is it right for you? Dec 16, 2022
    Show notes

In this Team Talk episode, KP discusses with Karen the Pros & Cons of Nesting. Nesting allows parents to share custody time without kids moving back & forth between two houses. Generally, the kids remain in the family home with the parents taking turns living in the family home and a separate apartment. This child-centered approach gives kids a slower transition into a new family structure.

Many professionals give pause to Nesting as a practice due to the hardship it can be for the parents. KP shares her personal experience as evidence that even with possible challenges, it can be a workable solution for moving the divorce process forward.

JBD Team Talks: You're Not Crazy Part III - Exploring the Voices in Your Head Dec 02, 2022
    Show notes

Part 3 of our series focuses on how to appreciate and benefit from the different voices in your head and their unique perspectives by using "The Brain Huddle" , a practice author Jill Bolte Taylor, PhD refers to as a "Power Tool for Peace". The four voices or characters generated by four different types of neural tissue in our brains are somewhat stereotypical in their behavioral patterns which means that the more that you are willing to observe their responses/reactions to circumstances the more freedom you (and they) will have to work together to support you in a "whole brain life" Listen to Lisa and Karen review our four characters and introduce you to the five steps of the "The Brain Huddle", a practice that starts with using your breath to calm the stress center of your brain. Once you've passed the 90 seconds it takes to step back and out of the stress response you'll be able to hear and access the unique skills, knowledge, and perspectives of the other parts of your brain that are equally you.

Lisa and Karen share real life examples of using the Brain Huddle to navigate challenging situations that arise during divorce and in life in general. If you want to move beyond the experience of fear, isolation, and despair that arises during divorce and be more effective and happier in your life, this show is for you.
