Dear Johnny, On December 13th, my wife Anna, had an appointment with a Hematologist/Oncologist due to severe anemia. That night at 7pm, we received a call from the doctor telling us to go to the Emergency Room for a blood transfusion due to a hemoglobin level of 5.1 (normal levels are usually between 12.0-15.0). Fifteen minutes later, her doctor called again and told us she needed to go to a bigger hospital because there was significant percentage of blasts (immature white blood cells) in her blood. Finding these blasts is a strong indicator of leukemia. That evening we arrived at the University of Kansas Hospital. After talking with a nurse, she was admitted to Labor & Delivery unit because, she is also 18 weeks pregnant. After completing more blood work it was determined that she needed 3 units of blood because her hemoglobin had dropped to 4.5. The following day two Hematologists came to deliver the news that she has Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), which is an aggressive form of Leukemia, and she would need to be admitted to the Leukemia unit to begin a minimum 5 week stay where she would start chemotherapy. The hard part is now that she is immunocompromised, she is unable to see the kids in person until she can go home. After a bone marrow biopsy, her form of Leukemia was confirmed. December 20th she began her first round of chemotherapy and will continue with this round of treatment for a total of 7 days. There is no guarantee that this round of chemotherapy will put her into remission; in the event that it does not, she will begin another round of treatment. These past few weeks have been such a crazy, overwhelming, whirlwind of events. This is such a scary time for our family; but we are staying as positive as we can. We are just trying to focus on what is happening now and not worry about the future. I just want to say friends and family have been so great to help out with the boys, meals, and sending well wishes and prayers. You really have no idea who is in your corner until something like this happens and we are blessed for the support we have received. I have taken several days off work and it has put us behind and I just don’t want my wife to have any extra worries. Thank you for reading our letter. We appreciate it. Dear Johnny, My name is Amy and I’ve been a Med Tech at local nursing homes for the last 14 years. My husband works fulltime at a manufacturing job in the caves. We are really struggling this year. Two weeks ago, my position was eliminated at the facility I’ve been working at. After an interview yesterday, I will be back at a new nursing home starting this Friday. But in the downtime, my husband was laid off for a week. When work is slow they just don’t go in (but he is back at work this week). The gap in funds has put us behind. We managed to pay December rent, but January is due on the 1st. My electric and gas are also behind. I’m also writing to you about my beautiful little boy, Paxton, who’s in the 3rd grade and turned 9 on December 10th. He is having a rough time. In kindergarten, he was diagnosed with language and learning disorder. He has trouble comprehending language, instructions, and understanding simple tasks. He falls behind very quickly. He goes to school and has IEP classes (Individualized Education Program), but he feels different. He gets quiet when he doesn’t understand, he’s socially awkward, has trouble making friends, and gets picked on. He constantly calls himself stupid and I hate it. I am working on getting him into counseling. It’s sad to see his confidence go from 100 to 0. Things are so tight with bills and I just want a little something under the tree for him from Santa. Dear Johnny, My name is Shelby and I work full time and I’m also a student. I’m writing for help because I have an emergency. A few days ago our service animal, Luna (a husky), was playing in the yard and fell and injured her knee. We rushed her to the emergency vet and found out she needs a TPLO surgery (tibial plateau osteotomy). She has a dislocated kneecap and torn CCL (puppy version of an ACL). Her surgery costs $3800 to repair and we just don’t have it. Luna is a big part of our family, and more than that, she is my service dog. In May, I was having severe headaches and was diagnosed with a brain tumor that effects my vision. It’s a pituitary adenoma about the size of a large gumball. It’s not cancerous, but it suppresses my adrenal gland and can cause seizures and severe drops in blood pressure. I may have to have surgery, but for now I’m on medication to regulate it. Luna is trained and certified as an alert dog for seizures and blood pressure alerts, and I love her and need her. I can’t do without her. Thanks for reading my letter and for any help you can give. Dear Johnny, My name is Jessie and my husband is John and we have two little girls that are 6 and 9. We both work (my husband is a diesel mechanic with a trucking company and I clean houses). About 7 weeks ago we had a scare, my husband was on his motorcycle on his way home from work and hit a deer not far from our house up in Gladstone. He had multiple injuries including a broken pelvis, broken left femur, broken ribs and road rash. It’s been a hard road for him to get back on his feet, but we’re just happy it wasn’t worse. I’ve worked to try to clean extra houses to keep our heads above water while he’s had to take some time off for recovery. We’ve used up what little we had in savings to try to keep up on bills and we’ve done ok for the most part, but I’m really worried about rent. We haven’t been able to come up with money to cover December and it’ll be January 1 before you know it. The good news is, my husband was just cleared to go back to work on December 30th. Dear Johnny, My dad, Tom, is a retired carpenter, but has since went back to work as a maintenance man to make ends meet. Due to the nature of his work as a carpenter, he has numerous health issues. He has had Hip replacement, Knee replacement, Herniated disk surgery, both rotator cuffs repaired, and more. My dad has been a hard worker his whole life. I used to watch my dad from my bedroom window leave for work early in the mornings. He would come home as soon as he could, dirty and tired but never too tired for us kids. Even with the struggles he would still smile and laugh. He loves telling stories and stupid jokes. But over the last few years, I’ve seen him smile less and less because of problems with his teeth. He has had upper dentures for the last 15 years, but recently has had serious infection in four of his bottom teeth (two of them had to be pulled). His dentist has warned him that he needs denture replacement. He has health and dental, but it doesn’t cover dentures. He lives alone now and it’s hard for him to come up with that extra money. I try and help as much as I can, but I am a single mother that works full time trying to get by myself. I would do anything for my dad. He needs upper and lower dentures, but he just doesn’t have the money. I know he is worried about infection and it’s painful for him to even eat and I think he gets embarrassed in public because of his teeth. He’s always been my best friend and I’m just scared that if we don’t fix this he’ll have problems down the road. I really would just be able to help my dad smile again. Dear Johnny, I am not one to really ever ask for help or assistance, but this year has been different. Things were going well, and my husband and I are both working. Then a week before Thanksgiving, my mother in law suddenly passed away of a heart attack the night before she was scheduled to be released to come home from her nursing/rehab facility. We are still in shock, can't wrap our head around it. Needless to say, my husband and I are now taking care of my father in law and my husband’s uncle. In 2012, my father in law was injured in a 4-wheeler accident and a tractor weight landed on the side of his head. Mentally and physically it has been a real struggle for him and he needs our care. Both of them are living with us as this time. We both work construction, but with time off for the funeral and getting our house in order we’ve fallen a little bit behind. Dear Johnny and Morning Show, I don’t know if you remember me, but this is Clint. You helped my family and our little boy, Maddox, last year. Unfortunately, December 7th 2024 our 4yr old Mighty Maddox lost his fight with brain cancer. He fought so hard and actually beat the cancer initially...unfortunately, 3 months after beating it the cancer came back with a vengeance. Mighty Maddox truly fought so very hard. Even though he was just 4yrs old Maddox has inspired many others to fight just as hard as he did as well as touching the hearts and minds of many more. I am truly grateful to you guys and the people of Kansas City for giving us a final Christmas with Maddox that was unforgettable and we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Dear Johnny, My name is Alicia and I am in a desperate situation. In mid-October, my 2008 Chevrolet Impala-- my driver's side front Window went off track and is wide open and won’t go back up. Then a few days later, I noticed my muffler started vibrating underneath the car. I’ve tried to cover the window the best I can, but it’s been some cold drives back and forth to work. And then at the end of October, as the weather started to turn cold, I tried to turn on my furnace and it was not working right. I try not to think about it because I just don’t have the money to get it fixed and I hoped it would be okay. A couple of weeks ago when the weather really turned cold, I tried to fire it back up and it would only blow cold air, so I tried to get the temperature up to at least 58 degrees. It began making a buzzing sound for a minute then shutting off for 30 seconds to a minute then try to come back on with the same buzzing sound. I knew something wasn’t right, so I just let it shut off. That has made for some really cold nights the last couple of weeks. I went to bed a few nights ago and it was 43 degrees inside my house. I called an HVAC technician to come out to my house and he said it could possibly be a blower motor and/or a transformer. He quoted me more than $1000 to fix it and I just don’t have the money. I work a full-time job and I’m just at my wits end. I’m driving to work every day with the window down and the cold blowing in my face and then come back to a house that’s usually in the mid-40’s degrees. I’ve been staying with a friend the last couple of nights because I just don’t know what to do. I make just enough to cover my bills and get groceries, but I just don’t have a way to get past this. I hate having to ask for help, but thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Any help would be appreciated. Hope For The Holidays - Amanda & Jed 12.05.24. LISTEN HERE! Dec 05, 2024

Dear Johnny, My name is Amanda, my husband is Jed and we have four beautiful kids. Chase 13, Jaxon 11, and twin girls Paige and Piper 8. Jed is a sheet metal worker with Local 2 and I’m a loan processor. We both have worked hard to get where we are in life, but I never thought I’d have to write this letter. About a month ago Jed started to have some weird symptoms of numbness in his left arm and hand, and headaches. He thought it was a pinched nerve. A couple of weeks later he had a migraine that increased in severity and it became debilitating. He went to the emergency room on Saturday 11/16. After a cat scan, they discovered a baseball size tumor in the right side of his brain. He was immediately transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center. They did a tumor resection on Monday 11/18, just two days later. The tumor was sent off so they could find out what we were dealing with. Brain tumors are graded 1-4. A grade 1 tumor is a slow growing tumor that is usually treated with good outcomes. The higher the grade the more aggressive the cancer and the worse the prognosis is. On Monday of this week we had the follow up appointment and pathology results for the tumor. The tumor is unfortunately a grade 4 glioblastoma. The most aggressive type of primary brain tumor. Statistically it’s not good. Long term survival is not in our favor. He starts 6 weeks of radiation right after Christmas, followed by chemotherapy. He’ll also have to have physical and occupational therapy to regain and work on fine motor skills. Jed has been off work for just over a month now and on one income we’re starting to fall behind. It’s all been just so much in a short amount of time. Jed knows he’s in the fight of his life and we just want to be here for him. We’ll see as treatment progresses where this takes us, but I just want to take some pressure off of him and the family while we fight this battle. Dear Johnny, My name is Terri and I have been a daycare provider for over 30 years in the Blue Springs community. I have watched over mostly children from area teachers and I love every minute of it. I’ve helped with kids from most major school districts on the Missouri side including Blue Springs, Independence, Lee’s Summit, Grain Valley, Raytown, and the list goes on and on. I genuinely love these kids and try not to be the “typical daycare provider.” I fix homemade meals for the kids every day for breakfast and lunch, customize a preschool curriculum, go to the kids’ birthday parties and help them celebrate birthdays and holidays to make them feel special. I really try to spare no expense for the kids I care for and look after every day. Over the last couple of years, my family and I have suffered some hardships. My husband, Larry, of nearly 30 years had to quit his job as a local mechanic due to the effects of his progressing Parkinson’s Disease. In the Spring we suffered a small kitchen fire and insurance covered most of the repairs, but we did have some out of pocket expense to make sure we were running things safely and efficiently. Recently, the strong winds that came through town a couple of weeks ago and caused a branch to fall from a nearby tree and puncture a hole in the back porch roof. Dear Johnny, My husband, Josh, had an accident at work in 2015. He works for a small drywall company and the scaffolding he was on tipped over and he fell 15 feet. He broke his wrist, cracked one heel and shattered the other. After 19 surgeries and a few years later he is a below the knee (left leg) amputee. We did not have health insurance, but were covered by workers comp for upkeep on his prosthesis until about 2 years ago. He went back to work as soon as possible for the same drywall company. He needed a new mechanical foot for the prosthesis last year and our prosthetic people are awesome, and got us set up with a payment plan which we finished about 2 months ago. Now from wear and tear and his leg slightly shrinking, he needs a new socket, which is more expensive than the cost of the foot we just paid off! We both work full time. I work in nursing and he works in construction, but it still leaves us paycheck to paycheck. Without a new socket he won't be able to work, and without both our paychecks I’m afraid we will lose everything. The socket for his prosthesis now doesn't fit his stump properly anymore, and due to the day after day he is getting sores on his leg and working while in constant pain. I just want him to be able to work comfortably and not risk another infection that could get even worse. Merry Christmas and thank you for reading my letter. My husband is working, but I had to step away from job due to health issues and I am waiting for disability/social security. In 2021 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. In 2022 I had Radioactive iodine ablation for Thyroid cancer. This year I have been dealing with a lot of symptoms that we thought were caused by a tumor on my kidney, turns out on Nov 14th I found out I have a brain tumor (Parafalcine meningioma). I am having trouble bathing myself, my body shakes constantly, weak, vision trouble, I walk with a cane and worry about falling down. I have my neurosurgeon appointment on Dec 16th to figure out my treatment process. My family is really struggling because of all of it. Our lights are behind, gas is behind and Internet has not been paid (we use for our son’s school). I’m worried about rent for December. We have had to sell pretty much everything we own. We are out of body wash, Laundry soap, etc. My son, Levi, who is 9 and has autism. We are desperate for him to not know we are struggling so hard. And thanks to the amazing first responders, they were able to kickstart his heart and rush AJ to Olathe Medical Center…and what followed was a quadruple bypass, a handful of mini strokes following the surgery. but he has lived to tell the fuggin’ tale!! And then the long road to recovery started.
And today, after 13 long weeks…HE IS BACK!!! And we couldn’t be happier…because it’s truly a miracle he's here today.

Yesterday, we lost one of the best and brightest people we've had the privilege to know, Blackberry Smoke drummer Brit Turner.
Since his diagnosis with glioblastoma in November of '22, he fought with everything he had in him....continuing to tour and record with the band up until December of last year.
The band released a statement that reads:
“It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform everyone that our brother Brit Turner has moved on from this life,” the group said in its statement. “If you had the privilege of knowing Brit on any level, you know he was the most caring, empathetic, driven and endearing person one could ever hope to meet. Brit was Blackberry Smoke’s True North, the compass that instituted the ideology that will continue to guide this band. Brit has battled glioblastoma since his diagnosis in the fall of 2022 and fought every day. We ask for prayers for his family and band brothers. More information on arrangements will be forthcoming. Thank you to everyone who has supported and been there for Brit and his family through this fight.”

Anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting Brit would tell you the same thing...we was larger than life, funny, kind, a family man, and truly a one of a kind human being.
And we here are going to miss him very much.

Dear Johnny,

My name is Amber and I’m a 42 year old single mother of 3 and I’m also a dialysis patient. I have had hereditary kidney trouble since the age of 9 (IGA nephropathy).

At the age of 26 my kidney began to shut down and I had to start dialysis (3 times a week for 7 years). In 2014, I was finally able to get a donor and for 6 years life was great. In 2020, I went to work one morning and I didn’t feel well. I just didn’t feel right. I was rushed to the hospital and after testing doctors found that my donor kidney was failing. At that point I had to go back on dialysis 3 times per week for 3 ½ hours per session.

I have so much scar tissue up and down my arms from all of the needle pokes and it’s all so draining and time consuming. It can be painful and physically exhausting.

I have kept working 4 days a week and I stay late if I can to get more hours or take extra shifts. When I’m not working or at dialysis I sleep a lot to try and recover. I am awaiting testing for my heart to see if it’s safe to go back on the donor list.

The only way I can afford to live is by sharing a place with my 2 daughters (ages 20 and 16) and they help take care of me as best they can. I also have a son, but he lives in Hayes, KS. With all of the testing and doctor’s appointments and dialysis I’ve fallen behind on some bills. I do my best but sometimes it just isn’t enough. I pray that you can help me and I thank you for reading my letter.

My name is Dave and I’m writing to ask for help. My mom, Mary, passed away in July 2019. She was 86 years old and suffered with alzheimer’s and she was diabetic.

She was the greatest mom a guy could have.

My father died when I was 2 years old and it only made me that much closer to my mom. After she died, my brother and two sisters and I were able to pay for a funeral, but it cost almost $10,000. It’s been 4 years now and my family and I can’t afford to get her a headstone.

Each of us kids have our own families and we have tried to save money for a headstone over the years, but it just never happens. It’s hard to go to the cemetery and see her grave marked with only a small metal nameplate on a stake in the ground. I would love to honor my mom and finally mark her grave in the proper way.

Dear Johnny,

My name is Christina. I'm a single mom of 4 great kids.

In July of this year something didn't feel right and I felt a small lump on my left breast. I went in for a mammogram and doctors found 3 lumps. After scans and testing I was diagnosed with breast cancer and scheduled for a single mastectomy in September.

After the surgery I started chemo in October (I have had 4 rounds, now have 12 left). With my surgery they removed 18 lymph nodes, 14 were cancerous. With surgery and treatments I have missed several weeks of work and it has been tough to make ends meet.

For the last 6 years I have been a school bus driver and bus aid for a local school district and with my immune system compromised, it’s hard to work and be around the kids. I have applied for disability and should have it right after the first of the year but I am late on December rent and I'm at a loss to how I'm going to make it. I owe $1427 with late fee. I never thought this could happen. Thank you for reading my letter.

Dear Johnny,

I'm writing for help for me and my family. It's been a tough year for us. We are unable to get our heat turned on this winter due to financial difficulties. It's me, my mother, my two brothers with autism, my grandfather and my grandmother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2021.

My mother has become a full-time caregiver for my grandmother and watching to make sure everybody is taken care of. We have really buckled down to try and catch up, but we just can't seem to get there. They are on a fixed income and I work as many hours as I can to take things off of their plate and make things warmer and safer.

We are currently relying on space heaters and electric blankets to stay warm, but it would be such a blessing for us to have heat. I didn't realize the gas had been shut off sometime around May or June due to past due bills.

After the past couple years of my grandmother getting her diagnosis and my grandfather and mother having to dedicate so much time to taking care of my brothers and grandmother, things have been an immense struggle. The overdue bill to get the heat turned back on is $2500 and I just don't know where to turn.

On December 8th 2023 my wife was diagnosed with leukemia.

She has been sick off and on the last six months and we've had several doctor's appointments and now know what we are dealing with. She is currently at KU Med Center, but she won't be home for Christmas or New Years as they have already begun treatment.

I'm am now keeping up with work and all of life's daily responsibilities and helping take care of my wife as well. I'm working as much as I can, because I can't lose my medical coverage, but I also have to be available to my wife to provide the support she needs for this fight. I can't share my worries with her because I just want her to concentrate on getting better. I have missed some work which has cut back on our funds and my car has an issue that I really need to deal with.

The power steering pump is going out which is making the car really hard to steer and drive safely. I need the car to get to the hospital, go to work, buy prescriptions, but I don't know how long it's going to hold out. It's costs like $500-$600 and I don't have it. I will be behind on rent, but luckily my landlord is trying to work with me on it. I just really need the car to work and I'm desperate and overwhelmed. I feel like I fake a smile to get through my days, but I just want my wife to be okay.

My name is Kaidan and the reason I'm writing for help today is that my wife (31) and I just found out last Thursday (Nov 30) that she has stage 3 colon cancer. Possibly stage 4. And a spot on her lower left lung. It started in November when she was having dizzy spells and trouble breathing. She's also had some stomach pain. We have both had to take several days off work for doctor's appointments to figure out what's going on. She's been through CT scans, x-rays, rectal exams, and more. We are now waiting on the results of a biopsy. She is supposed to start chemo next week (4 to 6 rounds) but her hemoglobin tested low so she has to have a blood transfusion this week.

I'm trying to work as many hours as possible. We have 3 kids ages 12, 8, and 5. I hate to ask for help but I know I won't be able to do this alone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve never been good asking for help, but I really need support with getting freedom back in my life for wheel-chair lift for the truck.

I have been fighting Parkinson’s Disease for 6 years now, and 5 back surgeries.

Luckily the company I work for has accommodated me with working from home. BUT home has been my life for over a year now.

I fought BCBS Insurance for over 6 months to just get my powered wheelchair covered.

The problem is my BCBS insurance company does not cover any type of lifts for vehicles.

I have priced lifts all over KC, the best price I found was at Mobility Plus Platte County and they are still out of my price range.

The cost for just the lift is $3500 (trading in an old chair). It must be a special size lift to handle the weight of the chair.

Model is AL425HD that handles the weight, I can’t use a hitch style.

Story:

I have giving up everything in my life, I just can’t even get out of the house now.

I take 56 pills each day, yes 56, I can’t afford a lift.

Not sure how much more life can throw at me.

Then 5 major back surgeries and then Parkinson’s.

Guys, I need help to gain some freedom again, any help please. I even tried looking at used but the few I tried did not fit or needed to many parts replaced to use.

On Saturday, December 2nd around 7:30 am, a man driving a truck lost control and ran into our town home driving through the wall into our living room. Luckily my daughter and I were not at home, but now we are scrambling for a place to live.

The Red Cross helped us with $640 but that is not going very far. We have been in a hotel since Saturday night and soon will have no place to go. I just paid our rent December 1st and now that money is gone. And they're not going to be done with repairs for at least 2 to 3 months on our unit.

I'm a single mom my daughter lives with me she's 18 years old and we have 2 dogs. We are just stressed about what is going to happen to us. I have reached out to multiple agencies I was directed to by Red Cross, but they don't have funds to help us. We did find a 2-bedroom duplex to rent and we were approved but I just don't have the money for rent deposit and pet deposit and I am trying to figure out a way to come up with that. My next paycheck isn't until December 13th and I don't know what else to do. Even though this was all an accident I just want to know that my daughter and I have a place to lay our head at night.

Dear Johnny,

My name is Jason and I'm 43 years old. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 19 years ago.

It is a chronic and progressive disease that I have lived with now for years. I've been in a continuous battle with MS and realize that I need an electric wheelchair to improve my quality of life. This style of wheelchair is the Majestic IQ 7000 and will solve a lot of my mobility issues I'm currently dealing with.

As a new father to a baby girl, it will allow me more freedom to be hands on and hold my daughter. This style wheelchair will also make it easier for my wife to pack up for transport (it is an auto-folding remote-controlled electric chair). On bad days, getting out of bed is very difficult and this chair would help solve many of my problems like just getting around the house and even getting into a vehicle for doctor’s appointments.

I'm currently $2500 short on being able to get this chair, but it's a necessary tool to improve my daily health as I battle MS.

Dear Johnny,

This is a hard email to write, I have listened to your show for years growing up with my dad and brothers. I have heard so many Hope For The Holidays stories over the years.

Here is ours…my husband Erik is an Army Veteran, who has many complex health problems that we are just recently discovering are potentially connected to his service and we are actively trying to get service connected disability pay for his new health finds.

But he has been in and out of the hospital several times this year, with Pancreatitis and other complications. He used all of his PTO in January when he was first hospitalized, and we are struggling to get caught up on rent and utilities since his last hospitalization in September and final outpatient procedure in October, to top it off, we thought we were headed for the light at the end of the tunnel when we both got COVID for a week in early November, after he was cleared to return to work from his last hospital procedure.

My PTO is gone and my employer is losing patience with my time off needs. So, I am hesitant to even ask for assistance from them.

We currently owe $930 for rent for December.

Late fees for September, October and November are $135 a month for a total of $405.

I was able to get our utilities are extended until December 1st we owe $330.28 for them.

My husband’s car just started making an awful grinding noise last week and that’s just another expense to think about.

We haven’t purchased any groceries or food for Thanksgiving or for the upcoming break for my kids next week and I’m hoping to have gas money to just keep us getting to and from work to keep making some money for all of our other bills.

We appreciate any help and support you can offer to help us out of this rough patch we are in.

Dear Johnny,

My name is Arianna, I am sending you this letter because my family could really use some help.

On September 5, 2023 I had to take my oldest daughter Piper (9) to Children’s Mercy Hospital in downtown KC because she was having constant headaches, her left eye was presenting as a lazy eye out of nowhere, she was not wanting to eat, and she was very sluggish. That morning I decided I needed to get her to the hospital to see what was going on. They got her into the emergency room immediately and within an hour she was getting a CT scan. The ER Doctor that was with her came in to tell us the results of the CT Scan. They had my fiancé and I step out of the room and I knew something was wrong. They pulled us into a separate room to tell us that they found a mass on my daughter’s brain. The Neurosurgeon told us that he was 99% sure it was a Brain Tumor and told us that she would need an MRI that day, a biopsy the next day and surgery sometime in the next week most likely. I stayed at the hospital with Piper while they got the MRI set up for her. It did end up being a Brain Tumor located directly on her Spinal Cord, he told us that it had to be removed immediately. So, Piper was rushed into surgery that afternoon. After about 8 hours of surgery, the Neurosurgeon came out and told us that the Brain Tumor was huge and he got 97% of it, he wasn’t sure what kind of tumor it was yet until the pathology comes back in a few weeks. He said she did great and that she would be in the PICU for a few days but he was hoping she would recover nicely. We spent 2 days in the PICU and then were moved to the Neurosurgery follow up floor and we spent the next 2 1/2 - 3 weeks there.

After the tumor removal, her right side of her face is paralyzed for the time being and she could not walk, talk, use the restroom or anything on her own. She is now wheelchair bound and requires a 5 point harness car seat. We found out that she has what’s called Posterior Fossa Syndrome from the tumor removal, she is relearning everything at this moment and has been since she came out of surgery. She is now wheelchair bound and has to have full physical support daily. The Pathology came back and it is a low grade (slow growing Cancer) Pilocytic Astrocytoma tumor. She does have to get MRI’s every 6 months for the time being. If her tumor decides it wants to start growing then she will have to have more treatment.

My fiance is working full time, but I had to quit my job to be Piper’s full-time caregiver. I have been taking care of her and her two sisters. I am currently taking her to Ability KC Rehab facility here in Kansas City because they are really the only Pediatric facility that does intensive therapy that she needs at this moment! I drive her every week 5 days a week up here to get the rehab she needs. With help from my brother I bought a minivan that is lower, has more room, and is easier to load Piper in and out of. The last few months have been tough basically living off of one income, but I'm so happy to bring my oldest girl home and we can be a family again. It has put a strain on us financially. I am worried about rent coming due, getting tags for the minivan and the cost of gas to drive so much from Wellsville into KC.

Dear Johnny,

My name is Angel and I am looking for a little help this holiday season.

I have been raising my two beautiful boys by myself since they were 3 and 5 years old. Sadly, their dad was killed in a car accident. I do not have any family here in Missouri with me, so I've had to try and do it all myself.

I lost my dad 3 years ago this Christmas day. I miss him every day. He was a huge part of my life.

I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 incurable metastatic breast cancer HER 2 Positive 3 plus which is very fast spreading in September of 2022. I had a double mastectomy then started immediately on chemo. I had the "red devil" cocktail which landed me in the hospital after every treatment. I am still doing Her2 blockage infusions every 3 weeks. I also went through 30 rounds of radiation which I burnt so incredibly bad, and the pain made me cry every day. I made it through all of that and stayed positive while doing my treatments. I just want to live for my boys and watch them grow up.

A few weeks ago, I was at the doctor's office complaining about headaches, dizziness, blurry vision and being nauseous. I had a Brain MRI, and the cancer has spread to my brain. I will now be undergoing radiation to pick the spots off in my brain. I am still staying positive, saying my prayers. I am a fighter, and I will not give up. No matter where my cancer spreads, I will deal with it, do whatever the doctors tell me do to, do whatever treatments I have to do just to live. Dear Johnny,

My brother John has been without teeth for several years now. John has an intellectual disability, and has gotten by on social security and odd jobs all his life. His teeth started to really get bad in his 30s. My family and I started paying towards his tooth extractions and his dentures. We got halfway through the procedures when Dad died, and the whole family fell on hard times.

John is now in his late forties. And he still has no teeth. The tops were removed, and he received a top set of dentures. But we haven't been able to get his bottoms done. It's been years. He can't wear the top piece because it chips what's left of his bottom teeth. It's been a hard time, and I had $1300 saved up a few years ago. But that $1300 dwindled little by little over the last few years as I had a whole slew of family get sick and pass.

I need to get his teeth fixed. Medicare doesn't help with dentistry, and I would love to see him eat his favorite foods again.

"Well guys.. as we were wrapping up the show yesterday I got some bad news. My dear friend George Kieffer in Curacao who’s had an incredibly tough year dealing with cancer and the resulting treatments was found unconscious and unresponsive at his house. Taken by ambulance to the hospital in Curacao he’s still in intensive care. I’m sitting on the tarmac at Miami airport headed there now. I’m going to stay as long as it takes to get him back on his feet and put a hand on my friends back to steady him. I’ve brought broadcast equipment so we hope to be back on the air Monday. I’ll keep you posted."
