    Episode 140 is the first in a multi-part series on the Bay of Pigs, as we wind down our overall series on Cuba. Hear the story of the Kilpatrick Report, the top secret report authored by the Inspector General of the CIA in the aftermath of the Bay of Pigs. With findings so explosive, it was labeled top secret and locked away for some 37 years in a safe before its general release to the public. Hear that much of the weak planning surrounding the invasion attempt was accepted because there was a concomitant plan to deploy the Mafia in a plan to assassinate Castro.     Bonus Episode 135 Attack on the Moncada Barracks Dec 05, 2022

    Episode 135 is another Bonus Episode. We cover the infamous story of the failed Attack on the Moncada Barracks. This was the first armed attack led by Fidel Castro against the Batista government after the1952 coup by Batista. The attack failed miserably with 25 people killed in the attack itself and an additional 54 of the revolutionaries summarily rounded up and murdered shortly afterward. Fidel Castro escaped into the mountains but was subsequently apprehended and brought to trial. While he was convicted and sentenced to fifteen years, his eloquent speech now dubbed "history will absolve me" coupled with the brutality of the Batista forces as they dealt with the escaping revolutionaries, combined to turn Castro into a national hero and set the stage for a later toppling of the Batista government.     Episode 133 is the second fully dedicated episode covering Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution. In this episode, we give an overview of the revolutionary years and chronicle the major events of the Cuban Revolution that took place during the period between the coup by Batista in March 1952 through the fall of the Batista government, marked by his fleeing of the country on New Year's day 1959. The aftermath and repercussions of Batista's coup would give rise and voice to the young Fidel Castro as a revolutionary force in Cuba. It is an extraordinary tale that we tell of Castros early attempts to overthrow the Batista government including the failed Moncada Barracks attack, his trial and imprisonment, his subsequent exile in Mexico and his return to Cuba when he finally overtakes the Batista government in a guerilla campaign that eventually would win the day.
