Top 5 Ways to Address Heavy Bleeding EP145 Jun 14, 2022

In case we needed one more example of how conventional medicine fails women in perimenopause, let’s take a moment to consider heavy bleeding…
Virtually every woman is going to experience at least occasional heavy bleeding during the perimenopause years; (and in this episode Cody discusses the real issues causing this problem and talk about the things we CAN do things to get relief and overcome this issue).
Things often heard from conventional doctors are something along the lines of:
    “Just buy heavier pads/tampons.”
“It’s not hurting your body to bleed so much; it’s ‘normal’ after all. So you can keep living your life.”
“Well, you can look forward to menopause and you won’t have to deal with it anymore!”
Can you see the thread running through these suggestions?
    Deal with it.
It’ll end, so why should we try to fix it?
You’re a woman so you’re used to bleeding… it’s not that bad, right?
In this episode Cody is here today to tell us all that we do NOT just have to suffer from heavy, painful periods in perimenopause. There’s a reason it’s happening, and there are natural, safe ways to get relief quickly!
If you have a broken arm, do you wait until it heals to do something to fix it?
    Of course not.
You get an x-ray, find the root cause of your pain, and make adjustments immediately.
In the same way, you shouldn’t just think, “this will end in a few years when I’m in menopause; so I’ll just deal with the pain.”
This episode is going to be your heavy bleeding “x-ray”—let’s dive into what’s causing this painful; disruptive symptom and (most importantly) how you can get relief!

Your Summer Hormone Travel Guide EP143 May 31, 2022

When we travel, our sleep schedule tends to go sideways. Healthy eating can feel difficult, if not impossible, in airports and train stations. We might skip the key supplements we usually take and crossing time zones can mess up your internal clock. Exercise becomes an afterthought and hydration often goes out the window… at which point constipation can become the norm. And when your GI tract is backed up, excess estrogen gets stuck in our system and wreaks a bunch of havoc.
Needless to say, all these shifts are hard on hormones. Actually, that’s an understatement. Sleep, food, supplements, hydration, exercise… these are THE things that keep our hormones working for us and not against us. When you have these lifestyle strategies locked down, you put an end to period problems like acne, bloating, PMS, severe cramps, heavy or irregular periods, hormonal migraines, and irritability and moodiness.

But when you travel and your hormone-supportive strategies get thrown off track, you can feel rotten quickly…and who wants to be bloated, moody, and covered in zits on summer vacation?!

For this week’s episode,Cody has gathered her best strategies for for keeping your hormones healthy and happy when you’re traveling. A few small tweaks can keep you feeling great when you’re on the move. Tune in and follow the steps she shares and your hormone health won’t have to go out the window when you go on vacation.

Understanding The Power of Our Emotions to Help Us Heal with Ashleigh DiLello EP142 May 24, 2022

Did you know that our thoughts and emotions can affect our health? Emotions that are freely experienced and expressed without judgment or attachment tend to flow fluidly without impacting our health. On the other hand, repressed emotions (especially fearful or negative ones) can zap mental energy, negatively affect the body, and lead to health problems, like hormonal imbalance, and actually keep us from truly healing.
Sometimes we can be doing "everything right" when it comes to healing, the main reason we do not heal is because we are motivated and driven by fear. Sadly, most people who eat healthy, move their bodies and make other positive lifestyle changes do it because they don't like themselves and/or their bodies (not because they do).

On today's episode, Cody invited Ashleigh DiLello to be her special guest. Together they dive into the power of our mindset and emotions and how we can put this power to good use. Ashleigh is a Mind Coach and creator of Bio Emotional Healing®, a process based in neuroscience that helps her clients rewire their subconscious mind. She teaches us how to disrupt our negative thought loop, calm our body and emotions , take control of your thoughts and get out of survival mode, so that we can heal and enjoy optimal health. Be ready to have your mind blown!

Odd Ways Our Menstrual Cycles and Mental Health Are Connected with guest Elizabeth Olson EP141 May 17, 2022

Because hormones have a hand in almost everything going on in our bodies, they also affect our brains and therefore, emotions. This is why hormones can directly influence our mental health, even if that change is just periodic and linked to our menstrual cycle.
Join Cody and Elizabeth as they talk about what hormones are up to during our cycle, so that we can better understand why we might be feeling a certain way. And while it won't give us the power to suddenly control how we're feeling all of the time, what they share today, can help us make sense of it.
Todays episode is a nice reminder to stop that inner critic giving us such a hard time, and to be kind to ourselves instead. With the right knowledge and self-care, we can turn meltdowns and angst into understanding and compassion.
Elizabeth and Cody discuss dealing with conditions like PMS, PMDD, ADHD, anxiety and depression and about how our hormones interplay with these existing conditions and how it all affects our mental health.
Also, they talk about how one of the best ways to make the most of our cycles and mood is to start tracking our cycle all month long. This tracking helps to uncover patterns and helps us to understand the language of our symptoms. This can help us to predict hormonal imbalance and emotional patterns throughout the month.
Check out Elizabeth's Period Tracker here.

Say Goodbye To Hormonal Acne EP137 Apr 19, 2022

Did you know that hormonal acne, aka "adult" acne affect adults between the ages of 20 and 50? Hormonal acne affects both men and women, but the majority of cases occur in women, pregnant women and women going through menopause.
Acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S. It affects nearly about 80% of the population during their lifetime. About 50% of women in their 20's and 25% of women in their 40's get hormonal acne.
Acne is caused by clogged pores. Hormonal acne develops when hormonal changes, like excess testosterone, increase the amount of oil your skin produces. This oil interacts with bacteria on the pores of your skin where hair grows (hair follicles) and results in acne.
On today's episode, Cody and Jess talk about Jess' personal hormonal acne story and how she learned how to heal hormonal acne by first taking steps to heal her hormonal system. She learned how to work with her body rather than fighting against it.
Listen in to learn what she did, how she did it and what a difference it has made in her overall health and life.

On today's episode Cody welcomes guest Lindsay Eager, a real life Mixhers customer and lover of Hertime. For years of having doctors insist she just had “bad period cramps,” or implying that her pain was psychological. Changing The Cycle: How To Help End Period Poverty with guest Kristin Andrus EP134 Mar 28, 2022

With 1 in 5 girls missing school due to lack of menstrual products1, period poverty is an important, yet often ignored, public health crisis. “Period poverty” refers to the problem many women are facing of being unable to afford products such as pads, tampons, or liners to manage menstrual bleeding. In place of sanitary products, many girls are forced to use items like rags, paper towels, toilet paper, or cardboard. Others ration sanitary products by using them for extended amounts of time. Period poverty encompasses not only this lack of access to products, but also inadequate access to toilets, hand washing receptacles, and hygienic waste management.
Don't think this is happening only in third world countries, this is happening in our own communities. Period Poverty is occurring all around us. There is a lack of awareness because it's a "taboo topic", it's uncomfortable to talk about.
As you know, Jess and Cody started the It's Hertime Podcast to help change the conversation about periods and women's health. On today's episode they are delighted to invite another crusader, Kristin Andrus, to help educate and share what we as a community can do to help to end period poverty in our local communities.
    Meet Kristin:
Kristin Andrus is a community champion who advocates for women, children, and refugees within and beyond Utah. She is also Chief Culture Officer to her husband and six children.
Kristin serves as a board member for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Intermountain Area and for UnDEfeated, an organization serving underprivileged youth and single mothers in Uganda. Nonprofits count on Kristin for her social media and marketing savvy as well as her supernatural ability to get stuff done.
With over 100,000 combined followers on 91,000 Instagram andfollowers, 12,000 YouTube, subscribers, and live cooking segments on Utah’s Studio 5, Kristin has built a platform for awareness and impact.
In November 2020, Kristin launched #SisterGoods, an Instagram campaign that raised $30,000 in its first week to supply menstrual care products to schools, shelters, and foster care facilities throughout Utah. #SisterGoods has since spread to more than 60 communities across the U.S.

There are certain ideas and ideals that are tied to what “healthy” actually means; we think that in order to be healthy, women need to be a certain weight, follow a certain diet, and hit certain fitness and wellness goals.

But those ideals can actually put unnecessary pressure on women. Thinking you need to live up to these strict, and often inaccurate, ideals in order to be “healthy” can take a toll, both mentally (in the form of anxiety or self-criticism) and physically (in the form of exhaustion or pushing things too hard).

The truth is, when it comes to women’s health, there’s no one-size-fits-all definition—and these persistent stereotypes of what “healthy” means might actually be preventing women from being their healthiest (and happiest!) selves.

On today's episode Cody, Jess and their amazing guest Amber Brueseke, a well-known Fitness Trainer and owner of the account @biceps.after.babies on IG, talk about some of the most common stereotypes about women’s health—and paint a more realistic, accurate picture of what a healthy woman looks like. This is an episode you'll want to share with all of the girls in your life!

Guided By Gut Instincts with guest Corinne Stokoe EP132 Mar 15, 2022

Something that Jess loves to relate to other women about is the powerful intuition that women have. Jess feels that Mixhers has been built off of a lot of gut instinct decisions and willingness to do hard things when you know it’s the right thing. What Jess loved to talk to Corinne, of Mint Arrow, about is exactly that… how has she grown a business based off of her willingness to make career changes, change her message and stay aligned with her heart. How has she felt the response has been from her audience when she chooses to remain truly authentic and how can we all remain close to our natural instincts? Listen to hear how Corinne has created an incredibly powerful audience and important message by sticking true to who she is!

8 Facts About the Pill You Didn’t Know: Deep Dive with Cody EP130 Mar 01, 2022

Most of us have been on hormonal birth control (aka the pill and hormonal IUD) at some point – in fact, there’s a statistic that 98% of women have taken it at least for a little while in their lifetime. Many of us take it for a long time – 5, 10, 15, and even 20+ years.

It is handed out as easily as candy at the doctor’s office and many women don’t really even think about it as a medication – it’s like it falls into its own bucket.

But it is for sure a medication – and it is designed to stop ovulation to prevent pregnancy. It’s also prescribed often as a “fix” for things like acne, PMS, heavy periods, and more. Which totally bugs us to no end!

Hopefully doctors prescribing it tell you the warnings – potential for blood clots and stroke – but too many times we’re told it’s those things are rare. So it almost feels like it’s this magic potion that can help solve so many problems women are faced with.

    Really, though, is it?
Cody lays it all out for us in todays episode. She shares all about the untold secrets about hormonal birth control, about different forms of non-hormonal birth control and how to transition off of hormonal birth control in a healthy way.

Staying "Regular": Why It's So Important and How To Do It EP129 Feb 22, 2022

Today we’re talking all about poop! Nothing is TMI around here – and while this is an uncomfortable topic to talk about, it’s super important when it comes to your health. Constipation is a pretty regular problem, it’s something that is very uncomfortable, sometimes even miserable, it also can be problematic.

So why do Cody and Jess want to talk about this? Our stool is where a lot of our toxins are released – in addition to hormones. If we are unable to have 1-3 bowel movements every day, then those toxins can actually get recycled back into the body. The more toxins we have in us, the more inflammation we can experience – which can lead to additional symptoms. These are wide-ranging from migraines to anxiety to brain fog to fatigue to hormonal imbalance (and PMS) and more.

Anxiety And Your Period EP126 Feb 01, 2022

First things first. Mood changes, including feeling more anxious than normal, are super typical before your period. Basically, it all comes down to hormonal shifts that happen as part of our menstrual cycle.

Changes in hormones like estrogen and progesterone, which occur before our period, can have an effect on feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine. And that can trigger a flood of not-so-good feelings.

So why doesn’t everyone turn into a basket case before their period? First of all, pre-period mood changes can come in a bunch of different forms. Some women might be extra irritable while others feel inexplicably sad or angry. For others, the issue is anxiety.

Keep in mind, too, that some women are just less sensitive to hormone shifts than others. And the more sensitive you are, the more likely you might be to get hit with all the feels before your period.
Jess and Cody are diving into this topic on today's episode and sharing about the link between anxiety and periods, why anxiety might flare up before a period and how to manage period and pre-period anxiety.

    106. How Undiagnosed ADHD Can Cause Anxiety and Depression Aug 31, 2021

Anxiety and ADHD are very different, but sometimes the symptoms can look similar. The correct diagnosis is critical to guide treatment and to make sense of things. As much as the right diagnosis can heal, the wrong one can also harm. Thanks to this podcast episode she listened to, she was able to seek out a correct diagnosis of ADHD Anxiety and treatment plan, and it's made all the difference.
So if symptoms of anxiety and ADHD can be the same, does it matter how it’s treated? Yes. Yes. Yes. It matters. Cody and Elizabeth talk about how the symptoms aren’t the problem. 97. The Good, The Bad and the Sunny: Let’s Get Real About Sun Exposure Jun 29, 2021

We’re used to hearing about how too much of the sun’s warm rays can be harmful to our skin. But did you know the right balance can have lots of mood-lifting benefits as well as hormone health benefits?

Sunlight and darkness trigger the release of hormones in your brain. Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain’s release of a hormone called serotonin. Serotonin is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused. At night, darker lighting triggers the brain to make another hormone called melatonin. This hormone is responsible for helping you sleep.

Without enough sun exposure, your serotonin levels can dip. Low levels of serotonin are associated with a higher risk of major depression with seasonal pattern (formerly known as seasonal affective disorder or SAD). This is a form of depression triggered by the changing seasons and lack of sun exposure.

A mood boost isn’t the only reason to get increased amounts of sunlight. There are several health benefits associated with catching moderate amounts of rays. Listen in to todays episode to learn more!

    95. The Gut-Hormone Connection Jun 15, 2021

If you pay attention to the health headlines, you’ve probably heard about the gut microbiome, or the collection of good and bad bugs that live in the GI tract and have an outsized influence on health.

But here’s something you might not know: the gut microbiome has a direct and powerful effect on hormones. A group of bacteria in the gut known as the estrobolome metabolizes and eliminates estrogen from the body. But that’s not all. A healthy gut helps hormones in other ways, too: a balanced microbiome lowers inflammation, which promotes hormone balance (and may be especially helpful for hormonal acne), and supports balanced blood sugar, which is essential for healing hormones. A healthy gut also allows our bodies to extract the nutrients we need for hormone healing from our food and supplements.

If you suffer from hormone-related health issues, like acne, bloating, PMS, heavy or irregular periods, PCOS, ovarian cysts, hair loss, mood swings, fatigue, or low libido, you’re suffering from an underlying hormone imbalance — and you can help heal your symptoms by addressing gut health. A healthy gut is directly linked to healthy hormones.
Tune into todays episode to learn 9 simple ways you can help heal your gut and improve your hormonal health.

    94. The Four Types of PCOS Jun 08, 2021

Did you know that Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS, affects as many as five million women in the United States and it is one of the most common causes of infertility.

PCOS symptoms—including weight gain, weight loss resistance, acne, missing or irregular periods, thinning hair on the top of the head and excess hair on the face and chest—can be annoying at best and debilitating at worst.
Despite the name, polycystic ovarian syndrome has nothing to do with cysts on the ovaries. The things your doctor saw on ultrasound are follicles or eggs, which are normal for the ovary. You can have many eggs and still have normal hormones, and that’s why ultrasound cannot diagnose (or rule out) the hormonal condition PCOS.
PCOS is best defined as androgen excess (high male hormones). Don’t let the term “male hormones” mislead you, however. Androgens are produced in both women and men and play subtle but important roles in the female body. It’s only when they become out of balance that they can cause problems. What this imbalance does is interfere with our regular menstrual cycles. Women with PCOS experience:

    • Missing or irregular periods (not ovulating regularly)
    • Unwanted face and chest hair
    • Loss of hair on the head
    • Acne (specifically on the jawline, chest, and back)
    • Carrying extra weight around the waistline
    • Inability to lose weight
    • Insulin resistance and dysregulated blood sugar (though not in every case. Most women with PCOS have dysregulated insulin, but not all)

To treat PCOS, you need to know what’s driving it. In other words, you need to know the different types of PCOS. And that’s what we dive into today in this episode.

    The Four Types of PCOS

    1.Insulin-resistant PCOS

    2. Post-pill PCOS (which is temporary)

    3. Inflammatory PCOS

    4. Adrenal PCOS, which is far less common
    Tune in to learn more!
Three articles mentioned in the episode:

    • Maybe it’s not PCOS (and PCOS cannot be diagnosed by ultrasound)
    • Pain is not a symptom of PCOS
    • Is it PCOS or hypothalamic amenorrhea or both?

    91. Now Is The Time To Get Your Hormones "Summer Ready"! May 18, 2021

Swimsuit season is almost here! But if you are struggling with the symptoms of hormone imbalance, you might not be too excited about showing off your “beach bod.” So let’s get your hormones “Summer ready”! Women can have a harder time maintaining a healthy weight and keeping precious muscle when their hormones are “out of balance.” When your hormones are out of whack, what’s happening on our inside starts showing up on our outside.

On today's episode, Cody and Jess talk about how getting our hormones summer ready can help us in these ways:

Bloating: High estrogen and low progesterone levels can lead to water retention and bloating. Estrogen often acts as a fluid retaining hormone, while progesterone is a natural diuretic. When these hormones are thrown off balance, you may notice uncomfortable bloating. You can use nutritional therapy, like Hertime to help boost progesterone production naturally to help keep you feeling comfortable in your swimsuit.

Glowing skin: Changes in certain hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, affect your skin as well. Your body works hard to keep your hormones balanced, but if even one hormone is off balance, you begin developing skin issues such as dryness, acne, fine lines, rosacea and wrinkles. Nourish your hormone system with Hertime for beautiful glowing skin, it’s an inside-out job.

Energy: Women in particular really feel the effects of fluctuating hormones. Every month, throughout the menstrual cycle, estrogen and progesterone levels start out low. Then, during ovulation, estrogen increases sharply, only to take a deep dive again at the end of the cycle. Is it any wonder that a woman feels like a different person depending upon what day of the month it is? These extreme hormonal fluctuations can really leave us feeling completely all over the place with our energy levels. Hertime helps to prevent these rapid dips of our sex hormones that lead to us feeling unmotivated to go out and have fun in the sun. For energy, Jess and Cody recommend using Herpower and Hertime.

    89. Mothering Instincts: Does It Really Exist? May 06, 2021

Let’s start off with a debate, shall we? Are motherly instincts real or fake?
On today's episode, Jess and Cody have fun discussing something that seems to come "naturally" that needs an explanation, but just doesn't have one, and that's why do mom's seem to know their child's cry in a room filled with babies? Why does nesting instinctually happen? Why do mom's instinctually know when their child isn't feeling well, or when they're lying? It's an interesting thing to wonder.
Cody and Jess have a fun discussion about the many ways that natural mothering instincts have shown up in many women lives, and also in theirs. They share their own personal stories, of times they have been able to rely on these instincts to save, protect, and to nurture their own children as well as the children around them.

    87. WTH Is Up With That MTHFR Gene? Apr 30, 2021

Did you know that all humans have the same set of genes? In fact it’s estimated that the human body has somewhere between 20,000- 25,000 genes. Our differences come from the tiny variations in those genes. Those variations influence not only how we look or how we behave differently than others… but in how our body reacts differently to external factors. Especially how it reacts to the foods we eat and the lifestyle we live.

One of the more common and potentially problematic variations is known as an MTHFR mutation. On todays Friday Deep Dive, Cody and guest McCall talk about this common gene variation and how it can impact how well our body metabolizes folate, a form of vitamin B9, that's required for so many critical bodily functions. A fault in this metabolic cycle is linked to some serious health problems. Listen in as Cody and McCall talk about some of them today.
    Listen in to learn about:
    * What is MTHFR and what does it mean to have this gene mutation?
    * What signs and symptoms you should be aware of that could be indicators that you have this gene mutation?
    * How to get tested to see if you have the MTHFR gene mutation?
    * What percentage of people have the MTHFR gene mutation?
    * What people should take or avoid taking if they have the MTHFR gene mutation?

    83. Infertility: How It Impacts Relationships Apr 16, 2021

Infertility can be a lonely road, but you don’t need to walk it alone.

There’s no denying the fact that infertility can take a major toll on your mental and physical health.

The hormones, the disappointment, the needles and tests all impact your well-being. There is no way to describe the overwhelming pain associated with trying — and failing — to build a new life and new family with your bundle of joy.

But what is less often talked about is the impact infertility can have on the current relationships in your life.

Infertility is often a very lonely experience, a fact that is only made worse by the drastic shifts it causes in existing relationships. Shame, embarrassment, and stigma all have effects. Financial strain, lack of communication, and contradictory coping strategies can all amount to major rifts between loved ones.

You may remember today’s guest Mandi Bishop from Hope For Fertility, an organization that offers grants to couples all across the United States who are struggling with infertility. They offer financial assistance towards infertility treatments, surrogacy or adoption. Mandi and her business partner McCall Weekes shared their own personal stories of infertility on episode 47.

On today’s episode Cody and Jess welcome Mandi back along with Mandi’s husband, Dave Bishop. Together they share what infertility was like for each of them, and how it impacted their relationship. We appreciate how open and honest they both are. Tune in, you’ll definitely be inspired by their story.

    81. Cortisol: What It Does & How To Regulate It with guest Elise Jones Apr 09, 2021
Do you struggle to get through the day, but have a second wind at night? Do you rely on caffeine to get you going and to function during the day? Are you gaining weight around your midsection and can't seem to lose it? Are you irritable, anxious and workout leave you feeling wiped out instead of energized?
These could all be signs that your cortisol is out of balance.
Your cortisol should have a rhythm-rising in the morning upon waking and spike a few hours into your day. By night time it should be lower to get you relaxed and ready for sleep. As cortisol lowers, melatonin (our sleep hormone) starts to rise and sweet dreams await you.
Stress, work, kids, bills, and many other underlying causes can confuse your body into pushing out more cortisol at the wrong times. When this happens for a prolonged period, we eventually burn out from being in a constant, chronically stressed out state.
On today's episode, Cody wanted to do a deep dive into what is going on when our cortisol levels are consistently high, and how we can regulate cortisol to avoid eventual burn out. Cody often shares how important it is to reduce stress as much as possible in our lives and how giving our brain "safety signals" helps to reduce cortisol production.
Cody invites her guest, Elise Jones, a Yoga Therapist, who is trained to help people that have dealt with trauma, or have certain health conditions that have come on from excess stress to join her on todays episode. Elise and Cody share with us some of the most effective strategies we can start implementing to reverse and regulate cortisol dysregulation. It's a fun conversation, full of all kinds of TLC and cool tips on how to support your adrenals and healthy cortisol rhythms.
Want to connect more with Elise? You can find her on her social media accounts @utahyogaandwellness and @elisejonesyoga.
Supplement recommendations if you are needing a little extra support for your 'stress system':
Hertime - has ingredients that are natural ant-anxiety and ant-depressant agents, and ingredients that nourish the adrenal glands.
Herpower- has nutrients that help to support the release of stress reducing, "feel good hormones", and is also a natural, non-stimulant drink that supports your boy's own natural energy production.
Hernightly- has just the right amount of melatonin to help you get into a restful state before bed. It helps relieve that "wired, but tired" feeling. It also has chamomile and ashwagandha which are known to reduce anxiety and stress.

    77. Estrogen Dominance: Causes and Solutions Mar 26, 2021

Are you struggling with infertility, PMS, mood swings, weight gain, or low libido? If so, you could be dealing with a hormone imbalance such as estrogen dominance. Having high estrogen levels — known as estrogen dominance — is not only linked to a set of frustrating and uncomfortable symptoms, it also puts you at risk for a whole host of chronic issues.

From fatigue and irritability to autoimmune conditions and cancer, estrogen can wreak havoc on your body if it’s not in proper balance with your other reproductive hormones, such as progesterone.

And here’s the hard truth: Estrogen dominance is at an all-time high. We’re seeing high estrogen rates increase dramatically across the board, in both women and men, across all age ranges. And the rates of cancers and chronic illnesses linked with estrogen dominance are on the rise right along with it.
Because of all this, Cody wanted to do another Deep Dive Friday episode, because there is so much to talk about on this subject! On today's episode Cody walks you through what estrogen dominance is and how you’re exposed to xenoestrogens. And she shares simple nutrition and lifestyle changes you can make to minimize your risk of estrogen dominance. She also covers how you can naturally clear estrogen from your system and maintain an optimal hormonal balance. We always love to getting effective action steps from Cody that we can start implementing right away.

On today's episode, Jess and Cody wanted to invite Jenn Close, a loved member of the Mixhers Community. 73. A Root Cause Approach To Endometriosis Mar 12, 2021

Did you know that March is Endometriosis Awareness month? Endometriosis will affect one in ten women in her lifetime. This is a startling statistic that highlights how women’s healthcare has taken a backseat to other priorities in conventional health and medicine. It also highlights how the way we live now — with chronic stress, the easy availability of hormone-disruptive food, and misleading or just plain missing guidance on how to address the root causes of our pain — has taken a toll on our health.

Guess what? We can take steps to ease the symptoms of endometriosis. On today's episode Cody does a deep dive with us, specifically about endometriosis, and shares with us the important steps that need to be taken.
Endometriosis is a condition that involves immune system dysregulation, hormone imbalances, and inflammation.
Endometriosis responds to targeted lifestyle strategies. That is to say: our food, exercise, and lifestyle choices can make a BIG difference in our symptoms.

The choices we make every day, big and small, can help reduce our pain, protect our fertility, and improve our quality of life. This episode will be a big help in showing you how.

    In this episode Cody covers:

Why conventional medicine has so little to offer women with endometriosis

    What is endometriosis?
Why is it happening to you?

    Food and supplements for endometriosis.

The emotional aspects of endometriosis that you may resonate with.

    67. No Time To Do It? Calendar It! with guest Sarah Belzer Feb 19, 2021

Remember The Beginning Of Your Relationship When You Would Drop Everything For Time With Each Other?
You probably did drop everything for a while— friends may have called you out for ditching them as your dog rarely got walked and your houseplants died. Nothing beats the excitement of a new relationship. In a healthy, mature relationship, your partner is still your first priority, but other things compete more successfully for your time than they used to. This is especially true if “parenting” is on your list of responsibilities. Recent studies have shown you aren’t the only one having less sex than you used to. If you find the days clocking by with little time for canoodling it doesn’t mean the thrill is gone. It just means you have to approach your sex life like the other goals in your life: failing to plan is planning to fail. If your physical relationship is a priority—and it should be—then you need to treat it like one. Add it to your calendar!
Today's episode is another fun conversation with Coconu owner, Sarah Belzer. You'll love the tips she shares, they could be the tips your love life needs!
Coconu is focused on helping you find more opportunities to connect and be intimate with your partner. Their personal care products offer couples increased possibility for pleasure, both functional and fun. Coconut oil and water based personal lubricants ease physical limitations for a more rewarding experience.
Do you feel like you struggle with your desire for intimacy? Have a low libido? Frequently wonder why sex isn’t on your mind? Herlove is for you! We’ve carefully crafted this, all-natural supplement therapy that works to relieve stress, balance sex driven hormones and increase sensitivity. Herlove is your intimate nutrition.

    66. Not a Mind-Reader? How To Better Communicate About What You Want With Your Partner with guest Kristin B. Hodson Feb 16, 2021

On today's episode, Cody and Jess welcome back their guest, Kristin B. Hodson, a Licensed Sex Therapist. They continue the conversation about having better conversations about sex with our partners.
Now that we have invested in learning about ourselves, it is time to learn how to communicate what we have learned with our partner! For many of us, this is where we run into trouble. We feel unsure how to communicate what we want. How to express what we like. And how to start conversations about sex...the sex we are having and the sex we want to have.
We love this quote Kristin shares, "it is easier to learn to talk about sex than it is to learn to read minds".
If you have been trying to read someone's mind, or wish that your partner could read yours, TODAY IS FOR YOU!

    58. How Healthy Indulgences Help You Stick To Your Health and Fitness Goals Jan 19, 2021

Did you know that the #1 resolution made at the new year has to do with getting healthier? Probably no surprise to anyone! We have all made these kind of resolutions. We start out with strong determination, but studies show that the average person that has set a new year health resolution gives up during the third week in January!! Why is that? Because most health approaches start out with a will-power approach that most likely is focused on deprivation and suffering. No wonder these approaches fail so easily! No one wants to be miserable. Is it possible to reach our health and fitness goals and still enjoy life? It is if you can learn to approach health and fitness with an empowered mindset rather than a will powered mindset.
Listen in to todays episode, Jess and Cody talk all about what this balanced approach looks like. Be sure to click the link to enjoy a free gift from Mixhers below:

    52. Menstrual Migraines and Hormonal Headaches, What's the Connection? Dec 29, 2020

Does it seem like you always get migraines right before your period? Did you know that about 60% of women with migraines get a type of headache called menstrual migraines? Right before our period, the amount of estrogen and progesterone, our two female hormones, in our body drops. This drastic change can trigger throbbing headaches.
Several types of headaches are linked to these changing levels of hormones. Women often get menstrual migraines anywhere from 2 days before their period to 3 days after it starts. But anything that changes estrogen and progesterone levels can cause them. The degree to which these levels shift, not the change itself, determines how severe they are.
On today's episode Jess and Cody welcome their special guest, Lindsey Walker, a Mixhers customer that shares her story of struggle with"brain zaps", frequent migraines and headaches and how she has found significant relief using Herpower and Hertime to reduce them. Jess and Cody want every woman to know that it is possible to find relief and that all-natural tools exist to give our bodies the support we need to balance our hormonal shifts.
Do you suffer too or know someone who does? Learn about why Herpower and Hertime are natural solutions for hormonal headache relief.

    46. Could Uterine Fibroids Be the Root Cause of Your Period Problems? Dec 04, 2020

If you struggle from period problems, but haven’t been diagnosed with something like endometriosis or PCOS, you might think that having heavy, horrible periods is just your lot in life as a girl. You just drew the short end of the menstrual-cycle stick! Uterine fibroids may be the root of your period problems. 80% of all women will develop uterine fibroids by the age of 50. So this is a very common issue...but not a "normal" issue that can just be ignored.
Fibroids are fueled by hormone imbalances (just like PCOS and endometriosis), usually the hormonal imbalance looks like estrogen dominance and progesterone deficiency. There are many natural and non-evasive steps you can take to balance your hormones and ease fibroid symptoms.
Join Cody today as she teaches about how you can biohack your hormones and bring estrogen and progesterone back in balance. Cody explains what symptoms to look out for, and what you need to know to balance your hormones. She also shares information on what procedures and surgeries are available, if needed.
Other episodes that Cody refers to in the episode are:

    45. How We Can Make a Big Difference Together For Women in Need Nov 30, 2020

On today's episode Jess and Cody welcome special guest Dave Larsen of Nene & Co to talk about a project Mixhers and the artisans of Nene & Co have been collaborating on to help make a BIG difference for women around the world. Dave shares with us that in the 1970's tens of thousands of men were murdered which left many women in desperate need. This project is providing for two major needs of these women in Guatemala; sustainable income opportunities that empower women with freedom and independence, and period relief by setting up women's health clinics that can provide Hertime and feminine hygiene products.
As you know, Jess and Cody (Mixhers), are passionate about helping ALL women feel their best, so that they can go out into the world and do their best, no matter what time of the month it is. They also have a huge passion about creating opportunities to connect women as a community. Having a period is something that naturally connects women to each other no matter where in the world we are from. Having a period is what has created this community here at Mixhers. As a community, we are even more powerful and can make a bigger difference together.
"Having this opportunity for our community to work together to provide sustainable and ethical work for women in need makes us feel even closer to each other. We are excited to announce the creation of our NEW Mixhers 'Period Pouches' that are handcrafted by women in Guatemala. These beautiful bags have been providing work for talented women that struggle to find a consistent way to provide for their families. We hope to make these creations a consistent addition to the Mixhers product lineup so that with each purchase we can provide work and a better quality of life for these women in Guatemala. We hope that our Mixhers community will join us in our excitement." - Jess Toolson, Mixhers CEO

She went to many doctors and could not find the answers and was told that this was just a part of having a period. Over the years she had tried EVERYTHING! Unfortunately the treatments she was using were only temporary solutions, that usually ended up making her feel worse after time or once she stopped the treatment. Luckily she found Mixhers, she started using the products, and today she is sharing her experience with us.

    41. What Would Happen If You Didn't Give Up? with guest Becca Jackson Nov 03, 2020

Today Jess and Cody welcome their special guest Becca Jackson from @ifthecookiefits. Becca shares her story about how she finally made the decision to not give up, to just keep going, no matter what! That simple decision is what made THE difference for her physically and mentally.
Becca shares her journey to health and wellness, and how it all started with a shift of her mindset. She decided that the best way for her to make healthy eating and fitness a part of her daily life, she needed to approach it in a balanced and happy way. She knew it wasn't realistic for her to completely give up sugar, so instead she decided she was just going to be more mindful about how she can fit treats into her life. This is how her instagram account started and where her handle "if the cookie fits"came from. Jess and Cody loved the tips she shared and you will too.
Listen in to get inspired and to feel motivated to keep going no matter what, and to never give up on your health and happiness.

    40. The 3rd Strongest Woman in the World Rebecca Rowley on Body Positivity Oct 27, 2020

Rebecca Rowley holds the title of The Third Strongest Woman in the World! Isn't that so cool?! Jess and Cody loved having Rebecca as their guest this week. Rebecca is someone that carries herself with so much beautiful confidence, power, and she has a giant and genuine heart. This week's conversation is about the importance of feeling good in our own skin and about body positivity.
As a twelve year old Rebecca felt insecure because her body didn't fit the stereo-typical mold of what was considered "beautiful". She thought in order to be beautiful she needed to focus on becoming smaller. But, lucky for her she had a wise 7th grade PE Coach who said something to her that changed her perception and self-esteem forever. He saw the beauty and potential she held in her body and he pointed her toward open doors she never knew existed. She has worked hard for years to build her strength and to earn the title she now holds, but she's shares that she has also worked just as hard to love and accept her body.
"Beauty isn't just about the way a body looks, it's about what your body and mind can do." Isn't that a message every girl (and boy) should hear? Rebecca encourages us all to find, focus on, love and share our strength with the world.
Be sure to check out Rebecca's instagram account for inspiration! She's amazing!

    39. Why Are Women Wired For Connection? with Brittany Crane Oct 20, 2020

Did you know that women are wired for connection? It's essential for our health and happiness to connect with other women. On today's episode, Jess and Cody welcome Brittany Crane from @get_out_there_girl. She shares with us about how to make SOUL CONNECTIONS, and how there is a difference between "fitting in" and "belonging".
We love this quote by Brittany, " Friendship takes effort. Finding people you connect to and feel safe, heard, seen and valued around is worth effort. Friends might not always come easy and they might not always find you. You might need to go out and search for them. Those connections are worth going out of your comfort zones to find. They are worth being vulnerable and putting yourself out there. Because, when you find your tribe it feels like coming home. Your soul feels fed and you get to enjoy the peace that connection brings. We are wired for connection. It's part of our humanness. Don't give up on it and don't wait for it to come to you. GET OUT THERE GIRL, and go looking for it!"

    38. Confidence and Clarity Through a Breast Cancer Diagnosis: Part Two with Jenny Bradley Oct 13, 2020

Today's episode is the continuation of the conversation Jess and Cody had with Holistic Cancer Coach, Jenny Bradley from @shrinkthemutant. On the last episode we talked about treatment options for breast cancer warriors that are not well known, and how we as family members and friends can best support our loved ones that have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
On this episode we learn from Jenny that she is considered a "young adult" cancer patient, which brings more decisions to be made when it comes to choosing which treatment options to use. She also shares that she had been on birth control for 10 years, and when she was diagnosed she learned that the longterm use of birth control increases our chances of being getting breast cancer, especially the estrogen driven breast cancer.
You'll also hear on this episode from Jenny about what treatments she used, and also what lifestyle and nutrition strategies she is incorporating to support her own body's natural healing potential.
    Favorite quotes by Jenny:
"It is absolutely possible to thrive with cancer".
    "Cancer is not a sentence...it's a word".

    37. Clarity and Confidence Through a Breast Cancer Diagnosis: Part One with Jenny Bradley Oct 06, 2020

On today's episode Cody and Jess introduce us to Jenny Bradley, who is a cancer thriver and advocate from @shrinkthemutant on Instagram. Jenny shares with us her inside scoop of how we can help our friends who are going through a health crisis, like cancer, and why it's important for patients to have hope and advocate for their choices.
After Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, she she started researching everything she could to help equip her to make confident decisions on her cancer journey. Through gathering perspectives from her medical team, including conventional and naturopathic care, Jenny has been thriving with her cancer diagnosis for nearly three years.
Because Jenny was diagnosed with cancer in her 30's, she had different choices to consider that went above and beyond fighting cancer. She had to consider the longterm side effects of her cancer treatments and how they could effect future family planning. She shares on today's episode a little about what that was like. She also shares with us which treatments have been successful for her, and gives us tips on how she has managed her cancer care team, and has felt empowered to be her own best advocate. She also shares advice for us family members or friends of cancer thrivers, on how we can best help and support.
This episode was so full of amazing information, that we invited Jenny to continue the conversation in our next episode. Be sure to tune into both!

    36. Proving You Can Live A Vibrant Life After Cancer with Guest Chelsie Sep 29, 2020

On today's episode, Jess and Cody invited special guest Chelsie from @heytherechelsie to talk about how she has proven that it's still possible to live a vibrant and full life even after cancer. Chelsie is a strong, and powerful woman and is also a childhood cancer survivor. She has been cancer free for fourteen years. She shares that although she has survived cancer, there have been many other personal struggles that she has had to face because of the effects of her cancer treatments. Currently she and her husband are dealing with infertility caused by her cancer treatments. Listen in and be inspired by Chelsie's positive outlook on her life, and how she chooses to focus on the strength she has gained through these struggles. She focuses on how grateful, grateful, grateful she is for her beautiful second-chance-life, and the opportunity she has to live it.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and though it's good to be aware, it's also important to remember that childhood cancer is an everyday reality for thousands of families. Every day, 250 children around the world die from cancer. Childhood cancer is consistently underfunded at the government level, so there is a great need for private fund-raising to help support better research and treatments for children fighting cancer. Because of private fundraising, there have been many improvements in how childhood cancer is being treated through more targeted and precise therapies. Long term survival rates are continuing to increase, but unfortunately not fast enough to save the thousands of children. Chelsie encourages us to support the organization VeloSano, which is a year-round fundraising initiative in which 100% of every dollar raised supports lifesaving cancer research at Cleveland Clinic. If you are inspired by Chelsie's story and would like to help, here's a link to donate. We can make a big difference when we all help a little.

    35. The Beauty of Self Confidence with Guest Blakely B. Sep 22, 2020

What is your definition of beauty? Is it the typical definition? The one that society and the media has us believing? Did you know that studies actually show that it's a woman's confidence that makes her most attractive? A confident girl is someone who is not afraid of being herself and feels comfortable in her own skin. She radiates from within, which allows her to focus her attention on others to help others feel more comfortable in their own skin too. The world needs more confident girls, don't you think?
On today's episode, Jess and Cody have special guest joining in on this conversation. Blakely is a fashion, lifestyle and beauty blogger. She loves fashion and looking her best, but she has become very aware of how much more important it is to be a voice and advocate that promotes confidence, beauty and body positivity from within. She sees that the focus, especially on social media, is all about image. That's what we do on social media, we look at tiny images, so it's focus can be more about what we see. Blakely wants to help shift that focus, to focus more on positive attributes and contributions. As a mother of two daughters, she tries to be extra aware of the language she uses about bodies and beauty around them. She recognized that her mother set an amazing example for her, which helped mold her into a confident women. She shares the tips we all can use to also have this same influence on our daughters, and also on how we can discover our own inner beauty confidence.

    34. Are You Properly Processing Your Emotions? with Guest Taryn Neves Sep 15, 2020

Did you know that research on the mind-body connection is gaining ground in mainstream science, and is no longer relegated to “alternative” medicine. We now know, in a deeper and more detailed way, how thoughts and feelings can affect our physical health and well-being. This is a concept that we all understand instinctively, and often relate to in our own lives, but it’s good to see the science support our shared experience.

There is a neurological, endocrine, and immunological conversation at work in every one of us that is reflective of our emotional state. While it’s very important to look at the root causes of conditions from a functional nutrition standpoint, it's also important to address the emotional aspects at the same time for long-term recovery. The emotional patterns behind officially diagnosed hormone conditions like miscarriage, infertility, ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, and other conditions are common to many, many women and very much a shared female experience. Understanding this aspect is an opportunity to have compassion for ourselves and for other women.

On today's episode Jess and Cody welcome special guest Taryn Neves, who is an advocate for empowering women with processing emotions properly. She shares her own story of what she learned while experiencing four devastating miscarriages, and infertility. It's a vulnerable conversation, but its an empowering conversation that will be helpful for many who can relate to Taryn, and her message of hope and healing.
On today's podcast two books were recommended to go deeper into this subject.

    32. The Power of a Simple No. Sep 01, 2020

We are big believers in positive thinking, and we do believe that we can accomplish "most anything" we set our minds to. However, we likely cant accomplish "everything" we set our minds to, no matter how much we think we want to! That can lead us to feeling defeated, and often leads other's to feel let down by us, too.
On today's episode, Cody and Jess share how they have gone from feeling pressured to say yes to everything, to now feeling more confident to gracefully say "no". They went from being master to-do list builders to being more intentional on what they put on their lists. They realized that every time they said yes to something or someone, they often had to say no to one of their other priorities. Listen in as they share tips on how to get clear on your priorities and how say no, without damaging relationships.

    31. Full of Anxiety? How Nutritherapy Can Help. Aug 25, 2020

Do you struggle with anxiety? You're not alone! Did you know that we are a hundred times more likely to have significant mood problems, like anxiety and depression, than people born a hundred years ago? Are our lives so much more unhappy? Not necessarily, but it's true that we are facing unprecedented amounts of stress in our day, far above what people faced a hundred years ago. And it's having a big effect on us! We used to experience acute stress, it came and then it went away. Our intuitive 'fight or flight' system would kick in when needed, and then shut off once the threat was gone. But now, we experience chronic stress, so our sympathetic nervous system rarely shuts down, and is running the show most days.
On today's podcast Jess and Cody talk about feelings of anxiety and how our lifestyles, and what we eat and drink, can have a huge effect in causing anxiety, or on the positive side, provide support for our stress-response system to help reduce anxiety. Have you ever heard of the term "nutritherapy"? Cody talks about the power of nutritherapy, which is a practice that seeks to prevent or correct disease by the use of nutritional supplements including vitamins, trace elements, or macronutrients. Tune in to learn more about what supplements and nutritional strategies you can implement today that will help you take charge of your emotions again.

    30. Why Less Isn't Always More with Guest Megan Millecam Aug 18, 2020

Would you say you have a little food fear? When it comes to our health and body composition goals it's pretty natural and often encouraged to see food as our enemy. We count every calorie or macro that goes into our mouth, never miss a grueling workout and if we eat too much we sometimes feel bad about ourselves and try to make up for our "lack of will-power" by eating less and exercising more. Sound familiar? So many of us have fallen into this "less is more" trap at some point in our lives. There's a lot of information being thrown at us in magazines, on blogs, on social media, etc, that if we want to look fit and healthy, the approach we need to take is to eat less. It can be so frustrating when we follow this advice to keep cutting calories and adding more exercise, to then actually see our bodies STOP progressing. Today's episode is all about why this happens, and why less isn't always more.
Today's guest is Megan Millecam, a fitness and nutrition expert that provides virtual training + nutrition coaching. She is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer with a BS in Exercise Science and a Masters in Health Science. Cody and Jess are so excited to visit with her today, because she has worked with thousands of women to reach their health and fitness goals and is so successful in empowering women to have a healthy relationship with food and exercise. Her positive, no-nonsense approach is what she is loved and admired for. She shares that there is a better way!
Listen in today as Jess, Cody and Megan share how they each have learned through their own experiences and from coaching others, what actually provides MORE when it comes to our health and fitness. They share tips and insights that you won't want to miss!

    29. Mixed Emotions. How Emotional Release Benefits and Heals Us. Aug 11, 2020

Today's episode was an impromptu and an emotional conversation between Cody and Jess all about the importance of letting ourselves be vulnerable with our mixed emotions. Jess opens up about what she learned a few weeks ago, when all in one day she received the news that her Grandpa passed away and it was also the day that exciting new products were launched at Mixhers. She fully admits what a struggle it was to process multiple emotions that seemed to be surfacing all at the same time. We all can relate to what Jess has been feeling. We all experience mixed emotions every single day. Jess and Cody openly discuss the need for feeling and accepting every single emotion. The happy and joyful emotions and even the hard and uncomfortable emotions, instead of ignoring them and burying them down deep. When we don't express our emotions, those emotions can often negatively show up physically and mentally down the road. It's truly an essential part of our human experience and is necessary for health and healing.

Taking time for your self-care needs is necessary, and not just a luxury. We can be focusing on all other areas of our health, but if we neglect our own self-nurturing, our hormone health can take a quick nose dive. On today's episode Cody shares her personal experience of how her efforts to be "perfectly healthy" actually sabotaged her in the long run. After years of intense exercise, strict nutrition, and all "the things" we think we need to do to achieve a perfect body, her body completely broke down. She was given a strict prescription by her doctor to slow down and to nurture herself more each day. This was the first and most important pillar of health that led her through her healing journey.

That's why we are always looking for an energy fix, just to get us through our day! Don't believe this, then look at the sales of coffee and energy drinks everyday! It's incredible! So many of us are going about our day running on fumes, and this is why we are reaching out for caffeine to give us that quick energy boost, but unfortunately we are also receiving the energy crash that follows. 24. The Power of Positivity With Ashleigh DiLello: Part Two Jul 06, 2020

Today Jess and Cody continue their conversation with Ashleigh DiLello on the power of positivity. The power of positivity doesn't just sound good, it's actually been studied by neuroscientists, through brain spect imaging. Every thought releases some type of chemical. When positive thoughts are generated, when you're feeling happy, or optimistic, cortisol decreases and the brain produces more serotonin, creating a feeling of well-being. The brain has heightened prefrontal activity and positivity results in enhanced mental functions. Positive emotions actually widen our span of attention and they change our perception and focus on more of the "we" instead of the "me". On the other hand, negative emotions are proven to slow down brain function, make it difficult to process thoughts, decreases activity in the cerebellum, and impacts the left temporal lobe (fear factor), affecting mood, memory and impulse control.
Today the discussion revolves around the concept of neuroplasticity, which is the brain's ability to adapt and change. Our brain loves consistency, and it loves to function on autopilot, or in other words, out of habit. When we have consistent, repeated thoughts, neuropathways are created in the brain. These pathways become deeper and more ingrained and become more habitual each time our thoughts follow this path. If we have negative thoughts consistently, we build a habit of automatic negative thoughts, aka "ants". By the way we are all wired to have negative thoughts, for survival purposes, we use negative thoughts to imagine potential threats and problems, and negative thoughts can help us to solve threats and problems before we get into trouble. But, these imagined threats can also work against us and turn our minds into "random negative thought generators" which isn't protecting us anymore, and is actually hurting us. Ashleigh shares with us that even though we have very ingrained neuropathways established, our brains are very plastic and are able to be "rewired". She shares with us, in this episode, tips on how to interrupt "ants" and how to create new pathways with positive thoughts and actions.

    21. Simple Signs That Your Hormones Need Help Jun 23, 2020

The term "hormone imbalance" is thrown around a lot these days. But what does it actually mean? How do we even know which hormones are imbalanced, much less what symptoms we should be looking for to figure out if our hormones are out of whack? The thing is, from the time we are are born, our hormones are dictating a plethora of our bodily functions, like our appetite, sleep patterns, how we respond to stress, our libido, whether we're happy or anxious, and everything in between.
On today's episode, Jess and Cody help piece together an understanding of what the heck is going on in our bodies. Cody teaches about our "alpha hormones" that usually become imbalanced first and that then have a downstream effect on our thyroid, ovarian, and sleep hormones. As in, they disrupt how thyroid hormones, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and melatonin work in the body. Jess and Cody share some of the first simple signs of a hormonal imbalance to look out for. If you're wondering, what's a hormonally imbalanced girl to do? Don't worry, Jess and Cody break it down and share the two most important steps to take first.

    19. Stress Less and Love More! Jun 09, 2020

When it comes to being truly healthy, as you know, it's important to take a whole-person approach. This is the approach Cody uses in her practice to help bring health and hormonal healing to her clients. It's important to go further than just diet alone, so today Jess and Cody are doing another episode focusing on two more, out of eight, main pillars of holistic health. Today they are sharing the pillars Stress Less and Love More.
Stress is a wellness threat that wears many hats. It sabotages our healthy eating habits by contributing to inflammation, increasing appetite, and causing sugar cravings, and saps energy we could be using to build muscle at the gym. Plus, ever met a super-stressed person who was maintaining strong-relationships? Stress is a normal part of modern life, but managing it allows us to live this modern life while maintaining our physical, mental, and emotional health. In other words, we will be happier, healthier people.
We know that a healthy sex-life and romantic relationships help us feel happy and fulfilled, but that's not all that our pillar of health that we call Love More is about. Romance and sex are definitely part of it, but there are so many other ways to express love, that still help to reduce stress and boost our feel-good hormones. Expressing and spreading love, in many ways, among friends, family, acquaintances and community, can contribute to a healthier and happier existence. Jess and Cody are encouraging our community to focus on living a more heart-centered life with even more intention. Let's see how doing so will not only improve our own health, by balancing our hormones, but how it also can literally change the world.

    17. Is Sugar Sabotaging Your Hormones? May 26, 2020

Sugar and refined carbs are best known for their effects on weight gain, but these foods are frequently at the root of our worst PMS and menopause symptoms, too, especially when it comes to fatigue, cravings, and mood swings. Today Jess and Cody talk about the tremendous difference it can make when we cut down our sugar intake. If we can stop eating sugar, we can feel more energy, have little to no craving or cramps, have less hot flashes, and so much more! Sugar not only causes major spikes and dips in mood and energy, it can also disrupt one of the most powerful hormones in the body: insulin. And, insulin is closely connected to all of the other hormones in our body, including estrogen and testosterone. So, even if you're not worried about your waistline, cutting back on or eliminating sugar will help rebalance hormones, and dramatically ease our most dreaded cycle symptoms.
Listen in to learn four effective strategies Cody and Jess use to balance their hormones and curb their sugar habits.

    16. Eat Empowered and Drink Up! May 19, 2020

When it comes to being truly healthy, as you know, it's important to take a whole-person approach. This is the approach that Cody uses in her practice to help bring health and hormonal healing to her clients. It's important to go further than just diet and exercise alone, these are important areas to begin, but they are only two out of eight healthy habits she focuses on that lead to true holistic health. On today's episode Jess and Cody will introduce you to the first two powerful pillars of health (out of eight), that you can begin to implement right away to start feeling almost instant health benefits, and that will set you up for easy and enjoyable cycles, and optimal health. They discuss the concepts around "Eating Empowered" rather than "Will-powered", and how this is a healthier mindset that will lead to long-term health and wellness success. After all, food is the most powerful form of medicine, or the slowest form of poison, so having healthy eating habits is a must! Also, they discuss how there is one healthy habit, "Drinking Up" that could possibly be the simplest form of medicine you've been missing, or that you may not be paying enough attention to. Everything we put into our bodies gives our body's hormonal messages that can either lead to hormonal havoc or health. If you are needing a hormonal reset, these two healthy-habits are what you should focus on first!

    14. Is Friendship The Medicine You're Missing? May 05, 2020

Is friendship the medicine you are missing? We talk so much about supplements, food, exercise, and stress relieving strategies, but solid friendships are just as vital to our overall health, happiness and survival. As women, it's in our DNA that we are compelled to connect. We instinctually know that to survive, we need to nurture supportive relationships. In fact, it is shown that women are wired to seek connection when they are under stress, because when women feel secure in relationships and feel loved, they are able to release more of the calming and happy hormone, oxytocin. Releasing more "happy hormones" in the body, through attention, affection, and interaction, is healing for our adrenal glands and leads to optimal hormonal health and balance.
The best kind of friends to seek are the ones that influence you to have healthy thoughts, to eat nutritiously, to move often, and to live a healthy lifestyle. Today Jess and Cody share ways that you can make friends that will support your highest self and nourish and strengthen you. Friends are the family that we choose, so choose wisely. Your health and longevity is directly affected by who you surround yourself with.

    10. Why Self-Care Is The key To Success Through Stress Apr 07, 2020

We are under stress, and it is having an affect on us. Do you feel it? Are you experiencing symptoms like; irritability, anxiety, depression, headaches and insomnia? These symptoms are all associated with chronic stress. And, what is one main thing that happens when we are under chronic stress? Our endocrine system stops functioning optimally, and we can become hormonally imbalanced. Our adrenal glands start pumping stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol at higher rates, our digestion is compromised, leading to the inability to absorb vital nutrients, and our immune system weakens, making us susceptible to viruses and other illnesses.

Cassandra Lau is the host of The Beautifully Intentional Podcast, and is sharing 4 tips that will inspire us to start being intentional with our self-care, and how doing so will send "safety signals" to our brain to help reduce stress physically, mentally and emotionally. These tips are amazing, and not just the same tips we keep hearing over and over again. Managing our stress is the BEST way and first strategy we should use to stay safe, remain healthy and to continue feeling happy during this time.

    06. Why Eating and Exercising The Same Way Everyday Disrupts Your Infradian Rhythm and Hurts Your Hormones Mar 10, 2020

Our bodies and brains are different during each phase of our cycle, so our food, exercise and self-care should be different each week, too, If we want to look and feel our best all month long. If you've been living in a "same way everyday" kind of way, you're not alone. In today's episode Cody and Jess talk about how the widespread cultural belief that we are suppose to repeat the same rituals, every 24-hours - have the same morning routine, or exercise the same way day-in and day-out - is actually leading us girls down the wrong path and causing inflammation and promoting fat-storage, which can cause so much shame and frustration, when it feels like "we are doing everything right. This insistence on doing the the same thing day-in and day-out does cater to a male's hormonal biological clock, but not ours. Men follow the same predictable pattern everyday: the 24-hour circadian rhythm. We girls have a unique biochemistry. We actually have two biological clocks, the circadian rhythm and the infradian rhythm. The infradian rhythm is linked to our menstrual cycle and it powerfully affects our brain, metabolism, microbiome, immune system, stress-response system and our reproductive system. As women we benefit when we understand this unique internal clock and we eat, exercise and work in ways that support our infradian rhythm, as opposed to following diet, fitness, and work trends that disrupt it. Tune in, you'll want to hear about what we can do to live in sync with our internal clocks to look and feel our best all month long!

    05. Is Your Sex Drive Normal? Mar 03, 2020

Do you feel like you're in the mood for a few days, then not so much the rest of the month? Jess and Cody felt like this was a very important topic to talk about because, as women, our sex drive affects so much more than our time in bed. A healthy sex life has amazing hormone-balancing power and health benefits as well. Jess and Cody also bring up the importance of understanding that a "normal" sex drive ebbs and flows according to what phase you are in during your monthly cycle. Understanding what is going on in your body hormonally each day, can help you better know how to work with your body, and how to communicate with your partner more effectively, so that you can have a very healthy and satisfying sex life all month long.
