Episode 249: Cotton Comes To Harlem (1970) Feb 10, 2023

Show notes

Welcome to It's A Wonderful Podcast!!

We're celebrating Black movies of the 1970s on the main show all throughout February and into the first week of March due to our big milestone 250th episode falling right in the middle of the month! With last week's episode focussing on Sidney Poitier's directorial debut with 'Buck and The Preacher', it's the turn of another Black screen icon in the directorial debuting chair this week as Morgan and Jeannine talk the action crime comedy COTTON COMES TO HARLEM (1970) starring Godfrey Cambridge, Raymond St. Jacques, Calvin Lockhart, Judy Pace and Redd Foxx!

As much a love letter to Harlem as it is an entirely entertaining mix of a great neo-noir detective story and a precursor to the more outlandish action found in the major Blaxploitation hits that would come in the following few years. A movie full of wit, style and community spirit!

Seducing Mr. Perfect (2006) - Morgan Hasn't Seen: Love Game Movies EP202 Feb 08, 2023

Show notes

Welcome back to Morgan Hasn't Seen with Jeannine Brice & Morgan Robinson!!

Taking the love games to a whole different side of the world on Morgan Hasn't Seen this week and Jeannine wanted to show Morgan a Korean rom-com, SEDUCING MR. PERFECT (2006) starring Daniel Henney & Uhm Jung-Hwa. A bi-lingual, very sentimental and surprisingly goofy rom-com with the unique addition to its tried and true formula of having lessons in love turned back against the teacher with rather great success!

Episode 248: Buck and The Preacher (1972) Feb 03, 2023

Show notes

Welcome to It's A Wonderful Podcast!!

The start of an exciting series on the main show celebrating Black movies of the 1970s all throughout February and into the first week of March due to our big milestone 250th episode falling right in the middle of the month. Morgan and Jeannine are here today back talking one of the show's favourites, Sidney Poitier with his directorial debut and starring alongside his longtime friend Harry Belafonte and Ruby Dee in the revisionist, stylish western BUCK AND THE PREACHER (1972)!

Certainly the most mainstream, widely shown and highly budgeted Black western up to this point in movie history; there's so much interesting background to get into surrounding this and its place in the boom of early 70s Black cinema, while having a lot of really interesting and impressive things to talk about within the movie itself!

Oscars 2023 Predictions, Shazam: Fury of the Gods & 70 Years of Roman Holiday - Monday Madness EP33 Jan 30, 2023

Show notes

Welcome To The Madness!!

It's an Oscars filled show this week as all the nominations for the 2023 ACADEMY AWARDS were announced! Morgan and Jeannine go through all the major categories and give their predictions on who and what may win, and who and what they personally want to win. There were plenty of notable snubs and strange inclusions for them to get into too!

The show ends with some fun OSCARS TRIVIA but opens with discussions on the new trailers for SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS, which sees Zachary Levi return as the lightning bolted big kid to face a particularly threatening looking Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu; and an upcoming Netflix movie WE HAVE A GHOST starring Anthony Mackie and David Harbour as a rather silly looking spectre! They also take some time to celebrate the 70th anniversary of one of movie history's great rom-coms, ROMAN HOLIDAY (1953) starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn!

Show notes

Welcome to It's A Wonderful Podcast!!

We just can't get away from media machinations and unscrupulous newspapermen at the moment on It's A Wonderful Podcast as Morgan and Jeannine are back this week to talk workplace competition, romantic backstabbing and a deeply disturbed serial killer in Fritz Lang's typically bleak, penultimate Hollywood movie WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS (1956) starring a stellar ensemble cast including Dana Andrews, Ida Lupino, George Sanders, Rhonda Fleming, Thomas Mitchell, Sally Forrest, John Drew Barrymore, James Craig, Howard Duff, and Vincent Price!!

The Last Of Us, The Mandalorian, Scream VI, Cobra Kai Ends & Video Game Movies - Monday Madness EP32 Jan 23, 2023

Show notes

Welcome To The Madness!!

The era of Pedro Pascal is truly here on this week's show as Morgan and Jeannine discuss the beginning of HBO's ambitious adaptation of the immensely popular video game THE LAST OF US starring Pascal alongside Bella Ramsey as well as the new trailer for THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 3. There's also the announcement that COBRA KAI SEASON 6 will be the show's finale, and that Antoine Fuqua may be working on a biopic of MICHAEL JACKSON; is that a wise idea?

There is also the small matter of a full breakdown of the SCREAM VI trailer, full of easter eggs and theories, a Scream based game of Six Degrees to end the show, and Morgan and Jeannine both watched a few VIDEO GAME MOVIES to discuss in today's 'Let's Talk' in honour of The Last Of Us! A stacked show and always a lot of fun!

Welcome to It's A Wonderful Podcast!!

The newspaper movies kick seems to be continuing into this week too as Morgan and Jeannine move back into dark territory as they talk Phil Karlson's subtly smart, down to earth, tight, gripping and authentic feeling Noir, SCANDAL SHEET (1952) starring Broderick Crawford, Donna Reed & John Derek; adapted from a novel by former newspaperman turned novelist, turned screenwriter, turned director Samuel Fuller!
