The event is a key reference point for wine producers and wine professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to network, develop and expand their wine business worldwide.

    About the session:

This session compares the past, present and future for a sector that will rest its growth less and less on marketed volumes. The Observatory of Unione Italiana Vini takes stock of today’s more rapid evolution of consumption and its impact on the Italian wine business.

    About the hosts:

    Moderator Andrea Andreoli

In 1991 he began writing for Il Nuovo Veronese, which back then was a daily newspaper. The following year he began collaborating with Telenuovo TV as well. In 1993 he was among the founders of the station’s Padua editorial office and, from the beginning of 1994, he became its editor-in-chief. In January 2001 he returned to the Verona headquarters as Deputy Editor. In May 2019 he was appointed Chief Editor of Telenuovo Tg Verona.

    Filippo Polegato

Filippo is 32 years old and represents the fourth generation of a family engaged in the wine business. After graduating from high school, he worked in the industry, between Australia and the U.S., later taking care of the commercial department and sponsorship management in Astoria. As CEO, he has invested in improving production and logistics efficiency, energy optimization solutions, growth in foreign markets, and the promotion of wine and food tourism.

    Marzia Varvaglione

Marzia joined her family business in 2013. Varvaglione 1921 was known for bulk wine. Today Varvaglione 1921 exports 5 million bottles to more than 70 countries. A member of the Le Donne del Vino association, Marzia Varvaglione was elected President of AGIVI in 2023. She continues to play an important role in the family winery as well as on the national wine scene.

    Carlo Flamini

Carlo Flamini is in charge of Unione Italiana Vini’s Osservatorio del Vino, the digital platform that provides data and analysis on international markets, production potential and the bulk market. He has worked as a journalist in UIV since 2002 and, from 2010 to 2018, he served as Chief Editor of Corriere Vinicolo, for which he conceived and produced “Vino in Cifre,” “Corriere Vinicolo Vite” and “Wine by Numbers.”

Ep. 2130 Larissa Lawrence interviews Sebastian Van de Sype | Clubhouse Ambassadors’ Corner Oct 17, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 2130 of the Italian Wine Podcast with Stevie Kim’s Ambassadors’ Corner on Clubhouse. In this episode Larissa Lawrence interviews Sebastian Van de Sype, of the Sebastian Van de Sype winery in Modena.

    Today’s learning objectives:

    • What’s the cultural orientation of Lambrusco?
    • What is distinct and unique about Lambrusco, relative to other Italian wines?
    • How might I enjoy it personally and convey that professionally?

    Co-Moderator - Larissa Lawrence

Larissa Lawrence is the co-founder of Vinos Enteros, a Mexico City-based wine importing and distribution company that focuses exclusively on artisanal producers who make terroir-driven wine grounded in tradition. Vinos Enteros counts the top restaurants, hotels and private collectors across the country as clients. Guest Bio - Sebastian Van de Sype

With a master’s degree in aerospace engineering and a +10 year career in business and F1 engineering, Sebastian is not the typical winemaker that was born into it. It was a conscious choice to embark full-time on this project, together with his spouse, Mary, who is a midwife.

The winery started in late 2020, acquiring an organic vineyard in Emilia in the hills around Modena, in Castelvetro, and also making the first vintage. Since then, the winery evolved and recently they inaugurated their own production site.

Before starting the winery, Sebastian had been working in the region for two F1 teams and fell in love with the region and its gastronomic opportunities. The Lambrusco wine style was inspiring, especially in terms of growing potential. The spark that ignited the project most probably can be found in his childhood, growing up in a culinary oriented family with the creed “taste thoroughly and choose quality over quantity!”. The continuous search for beauty and quality was in fact an important cornerstone of his education, whether it was in music, sports, study or any other occupation.

Welcome to Episode 2124 of the Italian Wine Podcast and Everybody Needs a Bit of Scienza, where Professo Scienza takes questions from the international wine community and answers them in his own inimitable way! These shows are generally in the Italian language. Today’s question about soil analysis and grape choice comes from Mihai Popescu.

    Today’s question:

If you were to choose a new vineyard site, what soil analysis would you do and how would you choose the right grapes? In particular if you want to choose from local grapes of the region.

Se doveste scegliere la zona per un nuovo vigneto, quale analisi del terreno svolgerebbe e come sceglierebbe i vitigni più appropriati? In particolare rimanendo in ambito regionale con uve locali.

    More about Professor Scienza:

Professor Atillio Scienza is the one who checks all the facts and regulates when we mistakenly type “Verdicchio” instead of “Vermentino.” He is a full professor at the University of Milan in the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences where he teaches courses on genetic improvements to the vine; he also teaches Viticulture in the Master’s program of the University of Turin in Asti. Ep. 2123 Chefs and Wine with Gurvinder Bhatia and Gino Colangelo | wine2wine Business Forum 2023 Oct 10, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 2123, where we present a session recording from the wine2wine Business Forum 2023. Today’s episode is entitled “Chefs and Wine: A complicated relationship” and features Gurvinder Bhatia and Gino Colangelo.

Italian Wine Podcast is proud to be a media partner of wine2wine Business Forum and is pleased to present this series of market-focus sessions, recorded in Verona in November 2023.

wine2wine Business Forum is an international wine business event held annually in Verona, Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and wine professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to network, develop and expand their wine business worldwide.

    About the session:

This session explores the importance of a chef’s relationship with wine, through the eyes of professionals in the restaurant sector as well as consumers. Is it necessary for a great chef to also be well educated in wine? Should chefs and sommeliers work together to create menus, or is the food the chef’s primary focus and the wine should be left to the somms and the consumers? Based upon the results of a survey conducted earlier this year, we reveal the opinions of a wide variety of wine professionals, discussing everything from how do diners choose a restaurant and is the wine list important to that choice, all the way to how extensive and diverse restaurant wine lists should be.

    About the hosts:

Gino Colangelo is the founder and president of Colangelo & Partners, the leading wine-focused PR & communications agency in the US with domestic clients as well as clients from around the globe. Gino’s particular interest and focus is Italian wine. He and his team work with both private companies (Arnaldo Caprai, Frescobaldi, Ornellaia, Pasqua and many others) and consortia and other trade groups (Chianti Classico, Langhe Prosecco DOC, Sicilia DOC, Slow Wine and many more). His agency has created award-winning campaigns and helps companies, big and small, navigate the complex US market.

Gurvinder Bhatia is the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Quench Magazine - North America’s longest-running and Canada’s most widely distributed wine and food publication. Although he has written for Quench for over two decades and been on the editorial team for the past 15 years, Gurvinder purchased the magazine in 2021 and is committed to the magazine’s evolution to be a much truer representation of our society. Gurvinder is also the wine columnist for Global Television Edmonton, an international wine judge and the president of Vinomania Consulting.
