Ep. 854 How To Sell Fine Wine In The US... | wine2wine Business Forum 2021 Apr 06, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 854, How to sell fine wine in the US through multi-channel marketing, Dave Parker and Michelle Erland IWA

Welcome to Wine2Wine Business Forum 2021 Series. The sessions are recorded and uploaded on Italian Wine Podcast. wine2wine is an international wine business forum, held annually in Verona Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide.

    About today’s session:

Even before the pandemic, trends in alcohol sales were pushing towards deregulating the three-tier system. While the three tier-system offers many benefits to society, including economic, commercial, and safety measures, a healthy distribution system should never impede any winery from entering the US Market. A Multi-Channel marketing system keeps the distribution system in check preventing barriers to competition. Dave Parker, CEO of Benchmark Wine Group and President of the National Association of Wine Retailers, will discuss all the opportunities for multi-channel selling to allow any wine brand to legally enter the US market and the channels of which exist to do so.

    About the Speaker:

Formerly Dake Parker was a Silicon Valley engineer, he began his professional wine career as the Owner of Parker Family Vineyards, a vineyard in the Alexander Valley. With a unique blend of talents, plus wine and high-tech industry contacts, he has successfully bridged the gap between high-quality wine producers and well-informed fine wine collectors and connoisseurs globally. In 1998, Dave founded Brentwood Wine Company, the first weekly online auction house for fine wine. In 2002, Benchmark Wine Group was established as a retailer, importer, and distributor specializing in hard-to-find, collectible rare wines. Now he is CEO of First Growth Technologies, including CellarPros, a service company focused on the needs of the serious wine collector and fine wine professional

Ep. 853 Wayne Young Interviews Ivan Rapuzzi | Clubhouse Ambassador's Corner Apr 06, 2022
    Show notes

Episode 853 Stevie Kim moderates Clubhouse’s Ambassadors Corner – In this episode Wayne Young interviews Ivan Rapuzzi. These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast!

Listen in on this series as Italian Wine Ambassadors all over the world chat with Stevie and their chosen wine producer. Which producer would you interview if you had your pick?

    About about today’s guest host:

Wayne Young is a transplanted American living and working in Friuli Venezia Giulia in Italy since 1998. After being awarded the WSET Diploma and stints working for Wine Spectator Magazine and as a somm at Joe Bastianich's Becco restaurant in New York, he decided to try his hand at cellar work. His plan was to return to New York and start a new chapter in the wine business after his first harvest... But three months became 4 years, and after marrying his Italian girlfriend, he moved to Udine permanently in 2002. HE LOVES the wines from this region, and he loves being able to have these conversations with the people who create them.

    More about today’s guest producer:

“While Dina and Paolo Rapuzzi, who founded it in 1970, were attracted by wine growing as a way of living, their children Pierpaolo and Ivan belong to a generation that was “raised among the vines”. Both of them have, in fact, a degree in Food Sciences and are agrarian experts; they firmly support the Ronchi di Cialla policy and immemorial wine making tradition in Friuli.”

“We were one of the first winemakers to adopt integrated agriculture, with low environmental impact. All vineyards are planted with grass. Parasite control (both fungi and arthropods) is kept to a minimum degree by using highly transitory contact or biological products only. We want to get top quality grapes, which are totally free of chemical residues.”

    Ep. 849 Lyndsay Dyk | Uncorked Apr 02, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to episode 849 in which host Polly Hammond interviews Lyndsay Dyk in this episode of Uncorked

With a growing list of communication channels available to us and a shift in at-home experiential marketing, what does PR even mean these days? In today's episode, we talk to Lyndsay Dyk, a Portland-based publicist who specializes in wine and food PR. She'll give us the skinny on everything from influencers to instagram to radio, with some passionate millennial pleas thrown in for good measure.

    More about today's guest:

Born and raised in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Lyndsay grew up immersed in the legends and landscapes of the American West. Her sense for a good story (and a good time) was honed while pursuing varied careers and studies in literary publishing, specialty coffee, creative writing, and public relations.

In 2019, Lyndsay left her role at the book publisher Timber Press in order to return to the hospitality community as a publicist at the Portland firm Little Green Pickle. There, she supported the people whose stories she was most passionate about—winemakers, chefs, hospitality innovators, and other creatives.

For clients like these, Lyndsay has conceptualized and managed media events and brand activations up and down the West Coast. She’s introduced seasoned wine writers to emerging producers and local influencers to newly opened restaurants. She has created imaginative virtual tasting kits for top-tier media that begged to be unboxed on Instagram and resulted in placements from Thrillist to Reader’s Digest.

In her free time, Lyndsay enjoys gardening with her husband and listening to Dolly Parton, preferably at the same time. She’s most proud of her WSET Level 2 Award with Merit and winning the 2008 Clackamas County Fair Grand Champion Market Lamb.

More about the host Polly Hammond:

Polly is the Founder and CEO of 5forests. She splits her time between Barcelona, Auckland, and Napa, consulting, writing, and speaking about the trends that impact today’s wine businesses. She’s an advisor to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, host of Uncorked with the Italian Wine Podcast, cohost of the Real Business of Wine with Robert Joseph, and, occasionally, a knitter.

Polly is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she earned degrees in International Relations and French. Those studies led to a deep and abiding love affair with behavioral Economics, and her wine work is based on insights into all the crazy and irrational reasons consumers engage with brands.

With over 20 years of experience in growing successful companies, Polly knows firsthand the challenges faced by independent businesses. She approaches each client experience with empathy and understanding for what it takes to adapt and thrive in the real world.
