No one lives forever. We’re all familiar with the cliché, “life is short.” But have you ever wondered just exactly how short? Have you ever considered the manner in which you might leave this earth when it’s your time to go? Death by fire, drowning, or being shot & killed are only some of the greatest fears held by many that have contemplated their own mortality. It’s very rare that these worst case scenarios will ever play out in real life...but the frightening truth is, that they sometimes do. In August of 2015, 31 year-old ex-beauty queen Judy Malinowski would be a victim of such unexpected & horrific events...when she was burned alive by her abusive boyfriend at a Speedway gas station in Gahanna, OH. Death is inevitable for all of us...but when drugs, homelessness, & domestic violence are the major components of an individual’s environment...one can only hope they’re able to make it out, before it’s too late…

In July of 2013, 59 year-old Charles Parker and his wife, 51 year-old Gretchen Parker, were found brutally murdered inside their Jonesville, South Carolina home. Police couldn’t seem to make sense of who might want the couple dead... until researching their backgrounds. A lot of us have skeletons in our closets- some darker than others- but the secrets Charles Parker was hiding were beyond anyone’s comprehension. They say the past will always come back to haunt you...but it’s the person, or “persons” who came to meet the Parker’s at their own front door that would leave police speechless... and the small rural Union County community reeling in a storm of deceit, murder, and corruption.

A 7-year-old cheerleader mysteriously vanishes from a Saturday evening youth all-star football game in rural Scottsville, Kentucky. She went to the bathrooms and concession stand with friends, but never returned. After the game is halted and those in attendance form search parties, she is quickly located within just a few hundred yards of the field, after a volunteer searcher stumbles into one of rural Kentucky’s most tragic crime scenes.

On July 30, 2008, 38-year-old unemployed Army veteran Scott J. Johnson sexually assaulted a 24-year-old woman off a remote bike path in the woods of East Kingsford, MI. Along the Menominee River, teetering the Michigan/Wisconsin border, Johnson aggressively forced himself upon his unwilling victim, but the sexual assault committed that afternoon was only the precursor for one man’s murderous reign of terror. Scott Johnson changed the lives of several families in an instant - when he appeared from the wooded forest as if out of nowhere, dressed in full camouflage army fatigues while brandishing a semi-automatic rifle at a group of teenagers swimming by an old, abandoned train bridge.

The Fake Beard Bandit May 26, 2021

On October 20, 2007, just outside of Toronto’s city limits, 26 year old Brett Ryan would rob his first bank. Disguised in hospital bandages, he handed the teller a note that read “Stay calm. I have a gun in the sling,” referencing the fake arm cast he wore, fastened from a strap around his neck. This is the story of a seemingly average college student that had every opportunity to reach true success in life, but was only interested in taking shortcuts in order to get there. Brett Ryan was unwilling to accept a life of mediocrity and was willing to do anything it took to portray a lap of luxury that he never truly earned... but how long can one person keep up with living a lie? Ryan became so obsessed with creating the persona of a successful young professional that he eventually became unable to differentiate reality from his fantasy. They say “the truth will set you free,” but Brett Ryan was a prisoner of his own mind...and the steel trap of secrets he so desperately tried to keep locked away would eventually be exposed, by his own family.

But he didn’t know that these people were his neighbors, he thought they were demons disguised as human beings sent to take over the world. In this episode we unravel one man’s layered reality of serpents, shapeshifters, and fringe conspiracy theories - examining how a case of untreated mental illness forever changed the Canadian bedside community of Fredericton, NB.

New Bedford, MA - or, “The Whaling City,” is a quaint fishing town that is one of the most multicultural & diverse in the United States. With large Portuguese, Black, and several other various ethnic communities occupying the close knit neighborhoods, New Bedford would be the last place anyone would expect to witness a horrifically violent hate crime. Yet in 2006, that’s exactly what its residents would be forced to endure. 18-year-old Jacob Robida walked into a New Bedford gay bar armed with a pistol, knife, and a hatchet- tucked in his belt, under is black hooded sweatshirt. This is the tale of an anger-fueled loner, influenced by ideologies of homophobia, racism, and violent music.

On Friday, May 24th, 2019, Jennifer Dulos, a Connecticut mother of five, dropped off her children at school and began her trek into New York for a day full of doctor appointments. Jennifer was seen arriving back at home, and after two hours, departing again for her trip. But after the family’s nanny arrived with the children in New York later that day for their appointments, Jennifer was nowhere to be found. No one had heard from or seen Jennifer Dulos since that early morning drop off. After she was reported missing later that evening, law enforcement located her abandoned vehicle parked just three miles away from her New Canaan, CT home. As the investigation began for the missing mother, police learned that Jennifer and her estranged husband Fotis Dulos, were in a nasty, contentious divorce. A divorce fraught with lies and deception - that ultimately left Jennifer fearful for her own life…

The world of Esports (“Electronic Sports”) has become one of the fastest growing communities of our lifetime. Professional video game tournaments clock in over 500 million views from the biggest competitions on streaming platforms such as YouTube and Twitch. But what happens when something goes wrong at one of these events and the whole world is watching, live? No one could have anticipated the horrors that would unfold mid-day, at an unsuspecting video game bar in Jacksonville, Florida. Yet, in a world that demands instant internet gratification, fastest upload speeds, and 4K game play... perhaps we should be careful what we wish for. We often overlook the isolated environment in which gamers subject themselves to. It’s easy to miss very real mental-health warning signs when enthralled and caught up in the realm “virtual reality.” When we fail to recognize these signals, how do the repercussions of one man’s actions affect our safety? When gunshots rang out over the livestream on August 26, 2018 - broadcasting live to hundreds of viewers during a professional Madden tournament, everyone ran for their lives. This is a deep dive into the mind of one desperate gamer, lost in his delusions. David Katz was willing to do anything it took to prove he was the best- even if that meant taking the lives of innocent people to get there.

19-year-old Serena “Serenity” McKay is reported missing on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 in the Sagkeeng Anicinabe First Nations reserve in Manitoba, CA. After just two hours of searching, a community elder comes across her badly beaten and mutilated body. Police are slow to release details of the investigation - but the existence of a horrific video clip of the teen’s murder suddenly appears on Facebook, and within hours - goes viral. Soon, an entire community knows exactly who killed Serena McKay - long before the arrests have even been announced.
