In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Jana Dworetzky from Ontario, Canada.

BIG NEWS! We have made some major changes in the Delay, Don’t Deny membership community, including moving to a whole new platform. Our old platform had some bugs and issues with functionality which kept us from connecting as easily as we hoped, so we have moved the entire community. It’s new and improved—and we are already feeling at home. If you’re looking for intermittent fasting support in a cozy community that celebrates the clean fast, you can now join us by going to ginstephens.com/community. And, if you were a Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network member who was under-whelmed with the experience, we promise the new community has everything we hoped for but didn’t have on the old platform.

You can connect directly with Gin in the Ask Gin group, and she’ll answer all of your questions personally. If you’re new to intermittent fasting or recommitting to the IF lifestyle, join the 28-Day FAST Start group, and both Gin and the other group members will walk virtually beside you each day of your FAST Start. After your fast start, join Gin and other community members for support in The 1st Year group. There are many more useful spaces beyond these three, and you can join as many as you like.

Members of the DDD Community have access to all episodes of Intermittent Fasting Stories streaming within the community platform, ad-free! You can even download them to your device and listen off-line. That’s just one reason to join.

Visit ginstephens.com/community to join. An annual membership is $59.95. If you aren’t ready to fully commit for a year, join for $9.99 a month and you can cancel at any time. If you know you’ll want to stay forever, we also have a lifetime membership option available.

IF is free. You don’t need to join our community to fast. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at ginstephens.com/community.

NOTE: If you were an annual member of the DDD Social Network who joined between March and September of 2021, please go to https://dddsocialnetwork.com/news/96401, log in, and read about how you can make the transition to the new platform at no additional charge.

Jana shares that she did a lifetime of dieting, beginning Weight Watchers in the 6th grade. In April of 2019, her rheumatologist shared that her liver enzyme numbers were too high. By October of 2019, she had developed a fatty liver.

Weeks later, two friends told her about IF. Jana was concerned with her health, so she decided to give IF a try and began in January of 2020. She found the Delay, Don't Deny Facebook group.

She started with 16:8, quickly moving to 20:4. Jana has lost 83 pounds, and is now a size 8. She has reversed her fatty liver, is off arthritis meds, and her skin has greatly improved. Jana is excited for all the health benefits that IF will bring over time.

After sharing IF with family and friends, Jana created a Facebook group. You may find her at: Fasting Times at Midlife High: An Intermittent Fasting Support Group.

Gin’s new book Clean(ish) is available for preorder! Gin wants to show you how to become clean(ish) where it counts:you’ll learn how to eat (mostly) clean and live (mainly) clean as you unlock your body’s natural ability to self-clean.

Instead of aiming for perfection (which is impossible) or changing everything at once (which is hard, and never leads to lasting change), you’ll cut through the confusion, lose the fear, and embrace the freedom that comes from becoming clean(ish). As you learn how to lower your toxic load through small changes, smart swaps, and simple solutions, you’ll breathe a (clean) sigh of relief and embrace your own personal evolution toward becoming clean(ish).

Go to https://www.ginstephens.com/cleanish.html for more information. The book will be released on 1/4/22, but you can preorder now through Amazon or your favorite online book retailer. Preordering is really important, as it gives the publisher an idea of how many books to print.

Kristi shares that with the pandemic of 2020, she put on weight, making her borderline obese. With a new job, Kristi decided it was time to do something about it.

She had done Weight Watchers ten years prior and decided to try it again. However, this time the weight was not budging!

Kristi found IF through a Weight Watchers online community chat. Then a friend told her about Delay, Don't Deny, and the DDD Facebook group. She also read Fast Feast Repeat and The Obesity Code. Kristi says: "IF was the first thing that made sense!" She began with a 16:8 protocol, quickly moving to 18:6. After three months of IF, she lost 30 pounds!

Kristi's health benefits: A great deal of energy, and she no longer has heartburn, nor restless legs. Her advice to new IFers: Don't stop! IF is doing something even if you don't lose weight right away. Stay engaged and pick one thing that you know will keep you motivated and stay engaged with it!

    Barbara DeLeo Oct 14, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Barbara DeLeo from New Zealand.

The Delay, Don’t Deny community has a new home! Go to ginstephens.com/community to join. When we moved our community off of Facebook in March, we chose a platform that we thought would meet our needs and allow us to connect with each other in meaningful ways. Unfortunately, once we all got there, we realized the technology that looked so amazing on the back end actually didn’t function well when members arrived. Their technology was antiquated and simply didn’t work. Ouch. We knew the community deserved something better and immediately started looking for a solution.

Well, we found exactly what we were looking for. The new community platform is easy to use, has the features our members asked for, it’s technologically stable (HOORAY!), and it already feels like home. So, if you tried out the Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network and found the technology to be clunky, we promise you won’t be disappointed with the new platform.

Go to ginstephens.com/community to learn more and to join. Community has been such an important part of my journey. Join us, so we can be a part of yours. We can’t wait to meet you!

Barbara DeLeo is a romance novelist. She shares that she did not struggle with weight until after college. She rigorously exercised, watched what she ate, and followed various diets, but nothing seemed to work. By the time she was fifty, Barbara was burned out from all the extreme workouts and diets.

Through the years, Barbara had heard about IF, but thought it was crazy. But when friends encouraged her and her husband to try IF, she thought, "It’s the only thing I haven’t tried, so let's do it!" Barbara researched IF, found The IF Podcast, and listened to every episode! She read, Delay, Don't Deny and The Obesity Code. She dove right into the IF lifestyle, and has not looked back! Two years later, Barbara is down two dress sizes.

Barbara’s advice to new IFers: There’s no hurry with IF. It is a definite shift in thinking, and it will bring you freedom.

Abby is the owner of an Ace Hardware. Abby was a lifetime dieter, trying every new diet that came along: from low calorie to low carb, and everything in between. The diet would work, but then Abby would gain back all of the weight she lost.

By 2017, Abby reached her highest weight and decided to give up. She thought, "I'm done fighting. I'm just a large girl." But Abby was still unhappy with her weight, and worried about her health.

In 2019, she overheard a group of ladies discussing IF. Abby researched 'intermittent fasting,' and found both Delay, Don't Deny, and The Obesity Code. She also joined the DDD Facebook group. Abby began with 16:8, quickly moving to 23:1 within weeks. She has gone from 225 pounds to 182 pounds, which is the smallest she has ever been!

Abby's advice to new IFers: "Look to the science behind IF. Join the IF support groups. Listen to the IF podcasts."

David learned of IF from his girlfriend, and he researched how it might help his bipolar depression.

David’s goals were the health benefits IF might bring, and not necessarily the weight loss. He began IF in the Summer of 2020, and a year later, his depression has drastically improved. He's also lost 30 pounds!

David's advice: If you think you can do it, you definitely can. IF is easier than you think. Our bodies were built to eat this way.

David also wrote a book, How Not to Kill Yourself; Ten Tips for Troubled Times. He wrote it to bring hope for those who struggle with depression, and the ones who love them. It is available on Kindle through Amazon.

Katie was always the tallest and biggest of her friends, which made her stand out. She played basketball in high school and college but injured her back, and eventually needed surgery. This affected her activity level, which caused weight gain. This also began Katie's cycle of dieting.

In 2019, Katie learned about IF from her principal. She began with a 16:8 protocol, but quickly moved to 20:4. She has lost 40 pounds.

Katie has experienced clearer skin, a major reduction of inflammation, and less back pain.

She is in the process of healing diet mentality, and she loves how IF has freed her from the constant worry about food.

Katie's advice: Use an app to track your fasts. Everything is a choice. Whatever you choose, it will have results either today or a year from now.

Jenni is a “happily unemployed” occupational therapist and grandmother.

Jenni read Delay, Don't Deny in one day, and immediately became a faster. IF came into her life while on a new path to liking herself: "I spent way too many years not liking myself," she shares. Jenni feels that IF would not have worked for her had she not done work on her heart first.

Jenni began with a 16:8 protocol, and eventually found that 21:3 was her ‘sweet spot’ for weight loss. At her highest weight, Jenni was 197 pounds. After more than a year of IF, she discovered her 'happy weight' is between 148 to 158 pounds. She has stopped tracking her fasts and weighing and is now just happily living the IF lifestyle.

Jenni's advice: "Nail the clean fast. Settle in. IF is not quick weight loss. Ditch the scale, but instead find a dress or pants to be your guide. Take lots of photos, and have someone point out the changes they see you in you!"

Visit dddsocialnetwork.com to join our membership community. An annual membership is $59.95. If you aren’t ready to fully commit for a year, join for $9.99 a month and you can cancel at any time. If you know you’ll want to stay forever, we also have a lifetime membership option available.

IF is free. You don’t need to join our community to fast. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at dddsocialnetwork.com.

Jan is a respiratory therapist. In December of 2019, a close friend invited her to a meeting to learn more about IF and encouraged her to read Delay, Don't Deny. At this point in her life, Jan had reached her highest weight, and knewshe had to do something.

Jan decided to ease her way into the IF lifestyle, gradually adding time to her daily fasts. IF felt immediately different than anything she had tried before, and she knew she'd never return to diets again. By the following July of 2020, Jan had lost 46 pounds, going from 215 to 169, and she feels so good!

Jan has experienced amazing health benefits: decreased inflammation, improved skin, and relief from her Fibromyalgia. Her chronic fatigue has disappeared, and she now has sustained energy. She remarks, "Where would I be if I had not found IF?" IF has also helped her to manage stress, and she feels accomplished living the IF lifestyle.

Jan's advice to new IFers: "Just do it! Just try it! Fast clean, and see how long you can fast each day; it can only benefit you!"
