Emily shares that she always had a problem with her weight, beginning as a child. She tried countless diets and calorie counting, but would always gain back the weight.

In August of 2020, doctors found a cancerous nodule on her thyroid. The treatment and surgery left her extremely weak and caused her to gain weight. Calorie counting wasn't working, and Emily was discouraged. While she was listening to a podcast, intermittent fasting and Delay, Don't Deny were mentioned. Emily immediately read it, along with Fast Feast Repeat and The Obesity Code.

She began her IF journey in January of 2021, and has lost 20 pounds. Emily feels total freedom with food and rejoices that she'll never need to diet again!

Emily's advice: "Follow Gin! Take the time to get fat adapted. You can start slow. It's not a race."

Hazel tried her first diet at 14 years old, and was always on a diet until she found intermittent fasting.

By December of 2020, with two kids under three and a stressful year of Covid, Hazel found herself at her highest weight of 148 pounds (she is 4' 11”). She felt like a failure.

In one of her Facebook groups, she read a post from someone who talked about intermittent fasting. Hazel did an internet search and found Gin's book Delay, Don't Deny. After reading it, Hazel knew that IF was the answer!

Hazel has lost 25 pounds. Fasting has changed the way she approaches life, and she now feels in control.

Her advice: "This is your journey. Go slow. Take it easy, and take it one day at a time. IF is for healing, not just weight loss. Think of it as an approach for the rest of your life, not just temporarily."

Brian is a conference interpreter who speaks twelve different languages.

He heard about intermittent fasting on YouTube, but was confused because of all of the conflicting information. When he found Delay, Don't Deny, intermittent fasting made sense to him, and he began his IF journey.

Brian has lost a total of 45 pounds. His skin tags fell off, he has cut down on his blood pressure meds, he sleeps better, and he feels 20 years younger!

You can find Brian's podcast, Slowing Down: the Inevitable Embarrassment of Growing Old, where he discusses longevity using IF, yoga, and other ancient practices.

Brian's advice: Stick it out. If IF feels hard at first, know it won't stay that way. Your body is working hard on the inside.

Graeme began to struggle with his weight at age fourteen. When his parents opened a convenience store, he found himself binge eating all the snacks they sold. As a result, he gained a tremendous amount of weight.

By the time Graeme was fifty, he had reached his all-time high of 360 pounds. On a plane flight with his wife, he felt “stuffed into his seat.” He decided then that it was time to do something about his weight.

In an internet search to figure out how to lose the weight, Graeme came across Delay, Don't Deny. Gin's story spoke to him, and he began his IF journey right away. He lost a total of 140 pounds!

Graeme has experienced incredible health benefits: both his arthritis and psoriasis are gone, his eyesight has improved, and his aches and pains have vanished. He feels immense vitality, and wants to share the power of IF with the entire world.

His book, The Fasting Highway, is the story of Graeme’s IF journey. He intended it to bring hope to those struggling with their weight.

His podcast is also called The Fasting Highway, and on his show, Graeme talks to other IFers from around the world.

Willow is a Doula and a busy mother of four kids. She grew up in a home where sugar was strictly forbidden. She recalls sneaking it, and as an adult had no control over it.

Willow was put on her first diet at age twelve, followed by another diet at age fourteen. By the time she was twenty, Willow found herself at over 200 pounds. Countless diets would continue until Willow turned forty, when she could no longer lose weight no matter how hard she tried.

In early 2020, friends shared Delay, Don't Deny with her. "It sounded like magic," she recalls. She began with 16:8, and gradually moved to 20:4. Willow does not weigh herself, so instead of a goal weight, she has a goal body. She is now a size six, and is happy with what she sees in the mirror.

Willow's advice: "Read the books! Listen to the podcasts! You need to know why you're doing IF. Remind yourself: hunger is not an emergency. And as Gin says: delay, don't deny!"

Dr. Mark Mattson is well known in the intermittent fasting community for his articles: Flipping the Metabolic Switch and the 2019 New England Journal of Medicine article, Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Health, Aging, and Disease.

Dr. Mattson has been intermittent fasting since 1980, before it had a name. While working on his PhD, he rode his bike to class. Noticing he experienced reflux after his ride, he began to skip breakfast. He immediately felt better, was more alert, and had more energy.

Dr. Mattson's 1990s research on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's led him to intermittent fasting. He found that rats and mice lived longer by eating every other day, as compared to those who ate daily. He dug deeper into why, which led to a discovery that during a fast, there are major changes in brain cells. Dr. Mattson shares: "Nerve cells increase their production of antioxidant enzymes that get rid of free radicals, and cells repair damaged DNA." IF powerfully slows the aging process and prevents disease.

Dr. Mattson's latest book The Intermittent Fasting Revolution may be found where books are sold.

If you’re new to intermittent fasting or recommitting to the IF lifestyle, join the 28-Day FAST Start group. After your fast start, join us for support in The 1st Year group. Need tips for long term maintenance? We have a place for that! There are many more useful spaces beyond these, and you can interact in as many as you like.

Visit ginstephens.com/community to join us. An annual membership costs just over a dollar a week when you do the math. If you aren’t ready to fully commit for a year, join for a month and you can cancel at any time. If you know you’ll want to stay forever, we also have a lifetime membership option available.

IF is free. You don’t need to join our community to fast. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at ginstephens.com/community.

Alexis works she works for a local university. She is also the author of the book The What IF? Diet Plan.

As a teenager, Alexis was morbidly obese at over 250 pounds. One day she skipped breakfast and felt great. She continued this secretly, and lost 40 pounds. But once in college, Alexis returned to eating all day and gained the weight back. It was then that she gave up: "I decided to accept my size," Alexis reflects.

In February of 2018, Alexis found herself at over 200 pounds again. She stumbled upon the documentary The Science of Fasting and then the Intermittent Fasting Podcast. She had rediscovered IF! Alexis gradually eased into the lifestyle, and kept a journal as she did. Her journal became a blog, which then became her book.

Alexis is no longer consumed with food. She has lost between 30-40 pounds and feels amazing.

Alexis’ advice: “Start where you’re at, not where you think you should be. Try to do IF with love. IF is a tool of the mind and the body. Put the scale away for the first month. There is hope!”
