    Summer Fun and Support for Youth Jul 29, 2026

    In this episode of Inside Eugene, student guest host Jamie Scott heads out into the field to talk with Oliver Redig, a Recreation staff member who helps run Fun For All — Eugene’s free summer program offering youth and teens a safe, positive space to hang out, play and connect. Running on summer weekdays in neighborhood parks, the program provides structured activities, supportive mentors and free lunches in partnership with Food for Lane County. Oliver shares how the program eases the burden on working parents, supports parents who may not have access to childcare and helps activate park spaces in ways that promote public safety. We also explore related LRCS programs, from teen apprenticeships to outdoor skills cohorts and community service camps. It’s a look at the vibrant, youth-centered work happening across Eugene Rec all summer long.


    Midday Music with Artistic Encounters Jun 22, 2026

    In this episode of Inside Eugene, we sit down with Jeremy Schropp of Harmonic Laboratory to explore the creativity and community spirit behind Artistic Encounters, the City of Eugene’s free lunchtime concert series. Running since 2018, Artistic Encounters brings live music, dance, and other performances to Kesey Square every Tuesday through Thursday from May to September. Jeremy shares how the program grew out of Eugene’s original busking initiative, how performers are selected, and why diversity and community representation are central to the series’ mission. We also talk about special spotlight weeks, memorable past performances — from pop‑up circus acts to projection‑based art — and how these events help energize downtown, support local businesses, and create a welcoming space for everyone.

LaVena Nohrenberg, User Experience Manager, shares what inspired the project, the priorities that guided the redesign and how the updated space better reflects the way Eugene Public Library serves the community today. The remodel was sparked in part by the evolution of Library of Things, a growing collection made possible by the Eugene Public Library Foundation.
