    Show notes

    After their Twitter poll concerning Spring Football received over 1,300 responses, Frank & JB wanted to review the pros and cons of the different Spring Football proposals currently being considered by over 200 schools that have canceled their Fall 2020 #d3fb season. However, they also wanted to discuss the American Rivers Conference's decision to still play in the fall -- the only conference to make such a decision at the conference level since July 15th. ARC Commissioner Chuck Yrigoyen discussed the conference's rationale for bucking the trend of conferences punting football to Spring 2021. This is our TENTH episode between seasons -- we've been working hard to keep you informed during the pandemic and ask you to help us get out the word about this podcast. Frank & JB update you on all of the East Region teams' academic and athletic statuses for Fall 2020. As they update you on the effects of Covid on campuses, they welcome Williams College Head Coach Mark Raymond, who discussed his school's cancellation of fall sports (starting at 35:00), and RPI senior quarterback George Marinopoulos, who reacted to RPI's cancellation of the season. "In the (D3FB) Huddle" - Rittelmann & Tammaro (S12E17e) Mar 26, 2020
    Show notes

    Football will continue soon, we promise. And a number of juniors moving up to their senior year next season might have an opportunity to make a pro roster after a successful senior season and college football career. That could mean the XFL, CFL, NFL, or any other league domestically or internationally.

    While we're all on hiatus, Frank & James reached out to Michael Rittelmann of the College Gridiron Showcase to discuss the postseason showcases he helps organize to help scouts find both large- and small-school quality players each year. They also speak with a participant in this year's Small School Showcase (part of the College Gridiron Showcase), Johns Hopkins graduating quarterback David Tammaro. David has a real chance to continue his football career even despite the Coronavirus obstacles we've discussed in recent episodes. Hear David's advice to players who might be able to go on to the next level and about his journey so far.

    We apologize for the lateness of this episode, but we have one more to go this weekend -- make sure to tune in, and please make sure to "Like" and "Share" this episode for others to find!

    "In the (D3FB) Huddle" - FDU-Florham's Jimmy Robertson (S12E17d) Mar 21, 2020
    Show notes

    During the Coronavirus issues we're all facing, there has been a lot of "back to the old days" mentality dominating our lives. So, we decided to embrace the "old days" with our first-ever ITH player guest from September 24th, 2008, new FDU-Florham Head Coach Jimmy Robertson. Frank & James discuss with Coach Robertson his rise to the head coaching position, what he's learned along the way from coaches like Merchant Marine's Mike Toop and RPI's Joe King, what he'll focus on as the new head coach, and how Coronavirus will affect his team, especially with the spring preseason now missing from the equation. He provides great insight as his four seasons at Merchant Marine as an assistant coach taught him how to operate without a formal spring preseason component. Please make sure to "like" and "share" this interview, as we always ask you to do. That way, #d3fb fans will know we exist when we're ready to restart sports and begin our 2020 college football season!

    "In the (D3FB) Huddle" - Endicott's Nick DiCairano (S12E17c) Mar 19, 2020
    Show notes

    You might think having your NFL Pro Day canceled, having your visit to Alabama for time with a great kicking coach postponed, and self-quarantining away from family and friends because of Coronavirus concerns would cause someone like Endicott College Placekicker Nick DiCairano impossible setbacks in his life. Guess again. "Deeks" has overcome enormous obstacles in his life on the road to becoming one of the best #d3fb kickers in the country over the past two years -- it's a story that you absolutely have to hear to believe. Frank & James ask Nick about his road to Endicott, the progression of his kicking career, his relationship with his teammates and family, and, of course, about his real opportunity to continue his career at the professional football level. It may be one of our longest player interviews in our history, but when you watch or listen to it, you'll want to learn even more about what makes this tremendous young man continue to tick (spoiler alert: fishing has something to do with it!). Please make sure to "like" and "share" this video, as Nick's story is something that will help give everyone a lot of hope during a time when we all need some. Please feel free to leave some comments to cheer on Nick in his continued journey to get to the next level -- a place where, with his leg and focus, he belongs.

    "in the (D3FB) Huddle" - Curt Fitzpatrick (Cortland) Interview (S12E17b) Mar 17, 2020
    Show notes

    On Monday, it became clear that schools will have extremely low chances to return to normalcy before the next school year. That's affecting the sport of football, even though kickoff is still about 5 1/2 months away. And that causes issues for especially first-year head coaches, who were just starting to get to know their players and assess their teams. New Cortland Head Coach Curt Fitzpatrick had great success at Morrisville, and he looks to continue that success after Dan MacNeill retired at the end of last season. He discusses with Frank & James why he sought the Cortland job, how Coronavirus will impact spring practices and his football program, and how Cortland looks heading into 2020 with some graduations affecting their lineup after a successful 2019 season. Please remember to "like" and "share" this video so that more #d3fb fans can find us!

    "In the (D3FB) Huddle" - Postseason Special Part 1 (S12E17a) Mar 15, 2020
    Show notes

    After a week that nobody in sports and academics with ever forget, Frank & James recap the Coronavirus impacts on college sports, especially #d3fb schools. After reviewing potential eligibility impacts on winter and spring sports athletes and the potential effects on pro football prospects from Division 3, they're joined by Union College President David Harris.

    President Harris discusses Union's response to Coronavirus, where we go from here, and how sports -- especially football -- may contribute to a return to normalcy on Union's campus. His answers were sincere throughout, and you'll see why Union students have been raving about Harris's impact on Union in his relatively short tenure as the school's President.

    Frank & James also review the upcoming two weeks of new "In the Huddle" shows -- including upcoming segments with:

    Curt Fitzpatrick (New Cortland Head Coach);
    Nick DiCairano (Endicott Placekicker & Pro Prospect);
    Jimmy Robertson (New FDU-Florham Head Coach);
    David Tammaro (Johns Hopkins QB & Pro Prospect); and
    Michael Rittelmann (College Gridiron Showcase Director).

    We know you're missing sports, and these shows are our way of trying to help fill the void as we try to return life to normalcy just a little bit. While the photo below looks dour, there are light moments throughout these interviews -- something you've grown to expect from our show. Please watch this and upcoming shows, and remember to "like" and "share" the videos for other Division 3 football fans to find them!
