“I’m Glad You Said That” – Jim Minnery Talks Faith & Politics

“I’m Glad You Said That” is a weekly podcast/radio show featuring Jim Minnery, President of Alaska Family Council/Action. During these episodes, we’ll talk about the things you’re not supposed to talk about in polite company – religion and politics. We dive into both as they intersect issues like religious liberty, the sanctity of life, Biblical marriage and parental rights. Each show, Minnery interviews influencers across Alaska and across the nation to get listeners thinking on how to be salt and light in the public marketplace of ideas.

He Gets It - My Much Needed Chat With Pastor Ron at Mt City Church Sep 18, 2026
    Show notes

I wish there were more pastors like Ron Hoffman at Mountain City Church in Anchorage. Of course there are many I know and respect who have also done a wonderful job preaching the full counsel of God but I can only interview one at a time.
Pastor Hoffman understands that God created three institutions. Family, Church and Government. And, by the way, all three are stained by sin. Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:8, Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 5:12, Isaiah 64:6
But, for some reason, although the church has no problem dealing with the downfalls of family and church struggling with sin, Government is to be shunned.
Stay away. Bad. Don't want to get soiled. It's "political".
But here's the deal. Politics is nothing more than the way communities organize and communicate on how to address challenges and solutions for human flourishing in society. Something the Gospel has very much to say about.
Hope you can tune in today and hear Pastor Ron's perspective on why church leaders should not shy away from being salt and light...in every arena of life.

Today I get to speak with staffers from the Federal Trade Commission on how they are addressing the very real issue of people having their images/photos etc being abused for nefarious reasons. It's an interesting, and disturbing, trend. Hope you can tune in.

Suzanne Downing and What Just Happened in the Alaska Primary Election Aug 28, 2026
    Show notes

Today on I'm Glad You Said That, I get to chat with my longtime friend, the inimitable Suzanne Downing with the The Alaska Story.
We'll do some digesting of the recent primary election and hope to not get mental indigestion.
There is a lot to be alarmed about but the Primary, as someone once said, is pre-season. We're now in the Super Bowl. Let's be wise.

Worldview Academy Co-Founder Bill Jack on the Show Today - Why it matters ! Aug 23, 2026
    Show notes

Elections, in large part, are downstream from one's "worldview" and yes, I know that is a difficult word to describe that resonates with everyone the same way.
Today on I'm Glad You Said That, I'm honored to visit with Bill Jack, one of the founders of Worldview Academy and someone who has been talking about worldview for more than three decades. This is going to be good.
I hope you can tune in.

On the show today, I get to chat with my friend Bethany Marcum, who is heading up the Yes on 2 Campaign to end rank choice voting. And unlike the previous two times RCV was placed before the voters, there is gas in the campaign tank to counter the lies and tell the truth boldly.

Aloha ! Family Faith and Freedom in the Islands.Talking with my Colleague Eva Andrade Aug 07, 2026
    Show notes

Hawaii and Alaska have been connected in many ways for a long time.
It's a special place with a wonderful Aloha spirit those of us blessed to have been there know as "island time".
My colleague and longtime friend Eva Andrade runs Hawaii Family Forum and she's on the show today talking about the challenges the 50th state has with a predominantly Democrat political environment. As with other blue states though, she is doing amazing work motivating and equipping the Body of Christ to be salt and light in the public policy arena.
Eva is unique in that she also serves as the Executive Director of the Hawaii Catholic Conference.

Senator George Rauscher on Being Light and Salt in Juneau Aug 07, 2026
    Show notes

Today I get to sit down with my long-time friend George Rauscher, a State Senator from Sutton to talk about the gas line, prayer in Juneau, prison ministry and other issues near and dear to him.

George was one of our nominated legislators who has attended the Statesmen Academy, an annual conference we link arms with Family Policy Alliance on that trains state legislators to defend biblical values, govern with wisdom, and stand firm for life, family, and freedom in the halls of government.

Senator Rauscher has done that with distinction over the years.

Christ or Collapse - The Case Against Godless Government Aug 07, 2026
    Show notes

Jordan Peterson named David Millard Haskell among five leading voices confronting the progressive,, woke assault on Canadian institutions, singling him out for his unflinching public engagement.

Today on “I’m Glad You Said That” I get to interview Dr. Haskell to chat about his latest book called “Christ or Collapse – The Case Against Godless Government” that “diagnoses the post-1960’s breakdown of social cohesion, moral order, and collective life in the U.S. and Canada, and presents a clear path toward renewal.”

And as he likes to say, he brings the receipts…ay. That’s Canadian for you tracking ?

Nothing could be more relevant to the work Alaska Family Council has been doing for 20 years as we’ve focused on the intersection of public policy and Government with our core issues of parental rights, protection of the unborn, religious liberty, Biblical marriage and sexuality, school choice and free speech.

Most Important AK Legislative Race ? And he's on the show today. Jun 15, 2026
    Show notes

Arguably the biggest hindrance to advancing Biblically aligned policy in Alaska has been the relentless willingness of a few Republican State Senators and House members to give power to the Democrats in exchange for leadership positions.
Two of those legislators, Senator Gary Stevens and Representative Louise Stutes, both from Kodiak, have been leading that charge for a long time. It's been a tiring mantra. Elect Republican majorities. Democrats are put in authority.
We now have a legitimate moment to change this trajectory.
Gary Stevens is retiring and Louise Stutes is leaving the House to run for his Senate seat. Because she's been giving power to the Democrats just like he has, Stevens has endorsed her.
But Stutes has a challenger. And he is gaining traction.
Heath Smith, a former Homer City Council member, life long Alaskan and astute observer of what's wrong with our "bi-partisan" ineffective legislative caucuses, is on the show today.
Senate District C includes Seward, Homer, Cordova, Ninilchik, Anchor Point and Kodiak among other communities but the implications of this critical Senate race have long term statewide implications.
Hope you can join in on our conversation.

Chugach Electric Doesn't Have to be Dominated by Woke Environmentalists ! May 28, 2026
    Show notes

Did you know that just 12% of the 89,000 paying customers of Chugach Electric vote for the Board Members of this public utility that impacts every customer's paycheck month in and month out ?
It should come as no surprise that left-leaning climate alarmists, hand-picked and funded primarily through the Alaska Center for the Environment (now known as just the Alaska Center to mask their identity) and Renewable Energy Alaska Project, dominate the Chugach Electric Board. And when these Board members oppose sensible, affordable, predictable strategies to provide energy...you and I pay more. And our freedoms are impeded.
On today's show, I was privileged to chat with Todd Lindley, a conservative, experienced mechanical engineer with years of work in the energy arena, about why it's so important to have a variety of voices on this Board. Southcentral Alaskans rate payers should not be held hostage by a leftist mindset more concerned with woke environmental ideology than affordable, predictable energy to take care of our families.
