“I’m Glad You Said That” – Jim Minnery Talks Faith & Politics

“I’m Glad You Said That” is a weekly podcast/radio show featuring Jim Minnery, President of Alaska Family Council/Action. During these episodes, we’ll talk about the things you’re not supposed to talk about in polite company – religion and politics. We dive into both as they intersect issues like religious liberty, the sanctity of life, Biblical marriage and parental rights. Each show, Minnery interviews influencers across Alaska and across the nation to get listeners thinking on how to be salt and light in the public marketplace of ideas.

Does Every Black Life Matter ? Mar 24, 2021
    Show notes

Kevin McGary grew up in the "hood" in San Francisco.
He has seen and experienced racism and yet the organization he founded, Every Black Life Matters, stands outside of the mainstream Black Life Matters movement that has taken our nation by storm.
As he has noted, "If we are complicit with precipitating foundations of injustice when life actually begins, it is impossible to assert we are for “justice” in any domain or instances throughout life."
Those kind of unapologetically pro-life statements have not made him popular in today's cancel culture. Neither has his blistering resistance to critical race theory, his belief that there is only one race or that he supports free markets and educational choice.
But Kevin McGary is not looking for endorsements from culture. He is looking to be an ambassador for Jesus.
I hope you can join us as I have the pleasure of speaking with Kevin today on Family Matters.

Highly Functional - Talking with the CEO of Family Policy Alliance Mar 24, 2021
    Show notes

Craig DeRoche knows what it means to nearly lose everything.
Except his relationship with Jesus Christ.
As the current President and CEO of Family Policy Alliance, Craig fell hard into the trap of addiction. His life story is a wonderful testimony to the power of the Gospel and of a God of mercy and reconciliation.
As the former Speaker of the House of the Michigan Legislature, Craig has served as the former President of the Justice Fellowship, founded by Chuck Colson. His book, Highly Functional, is a personal account of his "collision of addiction, justice and grace."
I'm honored to call Craig a colleague. I hope you can join us for today's episode of Family Matters.

From Homeless to Harvard - Kelly Tshibaka - Gov Dunleavy Cabinet Member Feb 24, 2021
    Show notes

Kelly Tshibaka knows what it means to live in a tent when your family has no other option at the time and she knows what it means to hang out in the upper echelons of the Ivy League.
As a lifelong Alaskan, Tshibaka is a strong-willed, self-subscribed lover of efficiencies who serves as the Commissioner of the Department of Administration for Governor Dunleavy.
In addition to her Harvard Law degree, Tshibaka has a heart for ministry having experience in the community pregnancy resource arena as well as planting churches in D.C.
Alaskans are fortunate to have her in a position to implement efficiencies in how State Government operates and steward public resources more wisely.
She is my guest today on Family Matters and I hope you can join us.

Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse - Defender of Family, Freedom and Rational Thought Feb 17, 2021

These Two Pro Life Women Are Putting Judges Back In Their Place In Kansas Feb 17, 2021
    Show notes

Jeanne Gawdun & Brittany Jones know as well as anyone that the Courts have usurped their role when it comes to the issue of protecting innocent, unborn human life. Gawdun, the Kansans For Life Director of Government Relations and Jones, the Director of Advocacy for Family Policy Alliance of Kansas, have just cleared a monumental hurdle in their state to clarify that the Kansas State Constitution does not include a fundamental right to abortion or the funding thereof.
The effort is called the Value Them Both Amendment.
It is a strategy at least 7 states have employed to effectively remove activist judges from making up meanings and language in state constitutions about abortion. And, God willing, it is a strategy Alaska Family Action will implement in the Great Land in the near future.
Join me today on Family Matters with Jeanne and Brittany as we share some good news about what's happening in the pro-life movement despite who currently occupies the White House and controls both chambers of the U.S. Congress.

Alaskans Elected A Republican Majority - Sen Peter Micciche Kept His Eye On That Truth Jan 28, 2021
    Show notes

Senator Pete Micciche from Kenai was not going to allow the Alaska State Senate to go back to a bi-partisan coalition again. He knew that is not what Alaskans wanted as they had just elected 13 Republicans out of 20 and that was more than enough for a majority. Despite the wide divergence of views within members on nearly every issue, he stuck to his guns that the platforms were worth fighting for and ultimately, it came together.
Micciche is now the Alaska Senate President residing over a Republican Majority and he is our guest today on Family Matters.

Suzanne Downing of MustRead AK and a Post Election Discussion Jan 27, 2021
    Show notes

Suzanne Downing is a force to be reckoned with. Her pen, or laptop, is as formidable a weapon as you will find in the Alaska media.
And with today's unbelievable torrent of breaking stories and rumors flooding our i-phones and minds, she has been locked and loaded. From Big Tech tightening the screws to eliminate the views and voices of an entire population of right-minded Americans to Alaska Republican lawmakers ineptness to play in the political sandbox effectively, she has had her hands full and her fingers dancing to keep up.
And, as we've come to expect and so appreciate, she has done an exemplary job. Tune in today on Family Matters for a casual and engaging visit I'm privileged to have with MustRead Alaska's architect.

Still Standing Strong in a Very Blue State Jan 11, 2021
    Show notes

Andrew Beckwith heads up the Massachusetts Family Institute, loves his country as a member of the Armed Services and sings some mean karaoke. Ok I have to admit sometimes I join him on stage but that's another story.
Despite the total domination of the Massachusetts legislature by liberal Democrats (surprise, surprise), Andrew gets things done for family, faith and freedom in the Bay State. The church is engaged and much can be learned from this dedicated warrior doing his part as an Ambassador for Christ in the public marketplace of ideas.
I'm honored to call him a friend.
Hope you can join us for our last show of 2020.
