Should college players be paid? Almost everyone answers yes...but what does that mean? (Guest: Jason Andreas) Oct 14, 2020

We take a deep look at what it would mean to pay college basketball players and what kind of impact that would have on college athletics as a whole.

    • Most everyone says yes its a great idea...but
      • The college athletes I talked to are on board but didn’t have a cohesive plan that has yet to infiltrate mainstream thought. It seems just a collection of ideas or half-baked ideas even

    • Free Market
    • Form Bubble Leagues HBCU League and school returns to it’s the traditional role
      • We can see that they are already bubbles with the Big Ten delaying their football this season
    • The Olympic Model - Endorsements, selling their likeness, etc.
    • Royalties like the music industry although that might not be the model anyone should follow
    • Offer more incentives, health insurance

Pistol Pete Biographer Marshall Terrill Oct 07, 2020

On today’s podcast The Chucker interviews Marshall Terrill, co-author of Pete Maravich: The Authorized Biography of Pistol Pete, a 2007 biography of the legendary LSU hoops star. This coincides with the 19Nine Launch of LSU

Maravich, who still holds the NCAA’s career scoring leader despite playing only three seasons at LSU, remains one of the game’s most iconic and celebrated figures. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame labeled Maravich “perhaps the greatest creative offensive talent in history,” but the basketball genius’ off-the-court story, which includes his sudden passing in 1988 at the age of 40, is arguably as intriguing and nuanced as the tale he wrote on the hardwood.

Terrill and The Chucker cover it all in this wide-ranging interview. Terrill is a prolific author who has penned more than 25 books, including biographies of other gone-too-soon icons. His latest book, STEVE McQUEEN: In His Own Words, will drop in November.

We stop by the bubble to talk about the playoffs. Then we dive into the 1993 redraft. Could Shaq and Webber have been a better version of Duncan and Robinson? The NBA draft is one of the most difficult things to predict beforehand. I'm not sure it gets easier even after the fact. You look at these prospects and try to imagine them as teenagers again and it is easy to see them as tantalizing prospects even if their careers didn't measure up to the lofty expectations attached to them prior to the draft. Penny's Memphis State Shorts are one of my favorite pairs of shorts.19Nine - https://19nine.com

The secret character or item is the rib over Reyan's shoulder. As with so many things it just came up randomly when talking about visiting the old location in Chicago where the game was made. He took the photo of himself here and noticed a rib just laying on the ground. Why wouldn't you take a picture of that? I love a secret item or character.
