This week, we're talking about Stick It -- or Bring It On for gymnastics! We talk about a movie that doesn't quite STICK the landing (...or beginning?), a great leading performance by Missy Peregrym, and Kat makes a long-awaited joke. This episode brought to you by MasterClass. With classes on a variety of topics, all taught by world class masters at the top of their fields. Fantastic for yourself and as a gift. MasterClass always has great offers during the holidays, sometimes up to as much as 50% off. Head over to www.masterclass.com/ihateit for the current offer. (Read this next part in a Vecna voice). IT BEGINS. (Now read the rest in a regular voice). This week, we're talking about the first 4 episodes of Stranger Things 5! We discuss Vecna's roundabout way of finding out what's in the zeitgeist, an unfortunately too-well-trod grief subplot that shows up again this season, and FINALLY Kat has a character in this show (but it's not who you think). In anticipation of the release of Stranger Things 5, we're returning to where it all began-- and we were both surprised by how we felt! We put some respect on Winona Ryder's name, discuss how Joe Keery is the true breakout star of the show, shake our fists at the algorithm, and freak out over the ballooning budgets of streaming TV shows. Then, Jocelyn makes up a BUNCH of songs, all varying in quality from bad to worse. Note: We recorded this episode remotely and there may be some lag. Apologies, and thanks for your understanding! It's the final week of Listener Request Month and we're talking about The Goonies! We discuss how to (and how to not) direct child actors, a plot that's just a list of stuff that happened, praise sweet Sean Astin, and wonder which Goonie we both are. Note: We recorded this episode remotely and there may be some lag. Apologies, and thanks for your understanding! Listener Request Month continues with our #3 pick, The Witches (1990)! We discuss Roald Dahl's complicated legacy, praise Anjelica Huston for giving an amazing performance under less than amazing circumstances, and wonder why ANY of this needed to occur. At least the mice puppets were cute? This episode brought to you by MasterClass. With classes on a variety of topics, all taught by world class masters at the top of their fields. Listener Request Month continues with our #4 pick, Stranger Than Fiction! This week, Kat takes umbrage with... everything, we delight over the enduring joys of Emma Thompson, and we ask the age-old question, "What IS this book?" Produced by Andrew Ivimey as part of The From Superheroes Network Visit www.FromSuperheroes.com for more podcasts, articles, video series, web comics, and more.
It's Listener Request Month, and we're starting with the #4 pick, Wreck-It Ralph! Kat and Jocelyn discuss the very specific ways that this movie hurts Jocelyn's feelings, praise Alan Tudyk for (vaguely gestures at everything), and talk about how you really need to see the show Wander Over Yonder. Produced by Andrew Ivimey as part of The From Superheroes Network Visit www.FromSuperheroes.com for more podcasts, articles, video series, web comics, and more.
In the final week of Spooky Scary Movie Month, we're discussing I Still Know What You Did Last Summer! Kat and Jocelyn nitpick the film's title, talk about a plan so convoluted and expensive it would BANKRUPT the killer(s), and side-eye a moment where Jennifer Love Hewitt gets to sing... and Brandy doesn't. Produced by Andrew Ivimey as part of The From Superheroes Network Visit www.FromSuperheroes.com for more podcasts, articles, video series, web comics, and more.
This week, we're talking about the intentionally tasteless B-movie extravaganza ORPHAN! We discuss a pitch perfect performance by Isabella Fuhrmann, how uncomfortable ALL OF THIS must have been for Peter Sarsgaard, and praise the wonder that is CCH Pounder. Produced by Andrew Ivimey as part of The From Superheroes Network Visit www.FromSuperheroes.com for more podcasts, articles, video series, web comics, and more.
This week, we're talking about the cult film PHANTASM! We talk about great kid performances, plot beats that are lifted wholesale from Dune, and haircuts that Kat would love to "fix".
