Husker247 Podcast: June 2 official visit preview Jun 02, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 Podcast returned on Friday for a quick look at the upcoming visit weekend the Huskers have in store.

Mike Schaefer and Brian Christopherson ran through the names expected on campus and talked out the players who stand out among the visit list.

There’s discussion on Mario Buford and how he’s been a key target for several years, how Joseph Anderson represents what the Huskers have been chasing since Matt Rhule arrives, how Caleb Pyfrom would be a big recruiting win and then how it could be a widely important weekend if Nebraska lands some early commitments for the month.

After that the two discuss the big camps the Huskers have going in June and how it’ll be interesting to see if the staff finds any recruits at these camps they end up offering and how they’ll attack things relative to what we saw under Scott Frost, Mike Riley and Bo Pelini.

Finally the question is thrown out in honor of the upcoming fullback camp — who is on Nebraska’s Mount Rushmore of past fullbacks?

Husker247 Podcast: Welcoming the newcomers May 30, 2023
    Show notes

Husker247 convened for another podcast on Tuesday and Mike Schaefer and Brian Christopherson discussed a few different topics following Memorial Day.

Here’s what the duo hit on after briefly discussing the nice long weekend:

    — Which incoming freshmen are players who could push for early playing time for the Huskers in the 2023 season?

    — Each of Christopherson and Schaefer discuss a wide receiver that could get more early playing time than some might expect.

    — How the 2023 class is going to be graded on what happens in the trenches and why guys like Jason Maciejzak and Sua Lefotu could help while also retaining redshirts.

    — Schaefer looks into the future and gives his prediction for the safest bet to be a starter in the 2023 class beyond kicker Tristan Alvano.

    — Christopherson talks legacies and why Danny Noonan could line up for some snaps right now.

    — After an intermission the duo hit on Nebraska’s secondary and the Huskers are hoping for some breakout years from a few players who just got their feet wet in 2022.

    — What will Malcolm Hartzog do for an encore?

    — Can the Huskers develop a few difference makers on the backend?

    — Finally a postmortem for the Nebraska baseball season.

Husker247 Podcast: Tournament time and Kaelin chatter May 24, 2023
    Show notes

Husker247 gathered on Wednesday morning to talk about Nebraska baseball’s chances in the Big Ten Tournament and the newest addition for the Huskers for this season and the 2024 class.

The podcast starts with some baseball chatter as Mike Schaefer and Michael Bruntz walk through the scenarios with the Big Ten Baseball Tournament.

Unsurprisingly it’s important for the Huskers to navigate the first game successfully to avoid a difficult and very unlikely path back to the Big Ten Championship game.

Bruntz explains some of the key players who will have to step up and gives some updates on the status of Brice Matthews, who missed time with a back injury.

From there conversation turns to Nebraska’s new additions Daniel Kaelin and Tyler Knaak. The two start with Kaelin and what a weird journey it was for the Huskers to end up with the Bellevue West quarterback despite several stops and starts over the year.

From there they discuss what they think Nebraska is getting with Kaelin and what it means for the quarterback position room.

Finally attention turns to Knaak and how the Huskers added an offensive line piece for depth this season and potentially more down the line. Plus some discussion about Utah as a recruiting hot bed.

Husker247 Podcast: Tight end talk and 2024 QB moves May 16, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 Podcast returned on Tuesday and noted just how quickly 2023 seems to be flying, which only means football is going to be here sooner than we think.

Conversation began remembering the days of hanging out in the magazine aisle at the store, leafing through the preview magazines and trying to get the scoop on the Big 12 or college football at large.

That lead to a discussion on tight ends and what we can expect from Nebraska’s position room in 2023, as the Huskers have a lot of potential contributors, more questions than answers and frankly a lot of intrigue at a spot that could be important this fall.

Among the conversations — who is at the top of the room? What kind of spring did Thomas Fidone have? Why we shouldn’t forget about Janiran Bonner and much more.

Then Mike Schaefer tries to put Brian Christopherson on the spot and ask the longtime beat writer for his Nebraska tight end Mount Rushmore. Who made the cut?

Finally after a technology challenged transition the duo discussed Dylan Raiola’s Georgia commitment and what it ultimately meant for the Huskers to be involved and where Matt Rhule and company might go now that the quarterback is headed elsewhere.

    Show notes

The Husker247 Podcast’s post-spring look at various Husker position groups rolls on with the wide receivers. The group has a number of X-factors and little returning production. What has to happen for the wide receivers to be productive?

In the second segment, The Wheel of Topics returns after a long hiatus, stocked with questions ranging from transfer portal and specific predictions about the season to breakfast meats and much more.

In the second segment, the guys discuss Nebraska basketball's addition of Josiah Allick and what's ahead for Husker baseball in the final two weeks of the season.

Husker247 Podcast: Spring QBs review, Nebrasketball portal momentum May 04, 2023
    Show notes

Thursday’s Husker247 Podcast begins an offseason look at where things stand for Nebraska’s position groups — first up: quarterbacks. Michael Bruntz and Brian Christopherson break down the spring, transfer portal movement and confidence level about the group as the portal wheel spins.

In the second segment, the guys discuss the addition of New Mexico transfer Josiah Allick and how he fits into Nebraska’s roster for next season. Allick is the fourth transfer portal addition for Nebraska basketball this offseason. How does that quartet fit into the Husker roster?

Transfer portal closes, NFL Draft and Nebrasketball gets a point guard May 02, 2023
    Show notes

The spring transfer portal window closed April 30. How did the Huskers fare and how does the picture look at certain spots where Nebraska lost contributors?

The podcast wraps with some discussion about the NFL Draft and Nebraska basketball gaining a commitment from Iowa transfer guard Ahron Ulis. Listen in.

Husker247 Emergency Pod: Casey Thompson hits the portal Apr 28, 2023
    Show notes

Husker247 convened for an emergency podcast following the news of Casey Thompson leaving.

Brian Christopherson and Mike Schaefer walk through the news and the fallout of Thompson leaving as a graduate transfer and heading to the portal. What does it mean for Jeff Sims? What does it mean for behind Jeff Sims?

Conversation also includes plenty of thoughts on the potential return of Logan Smothers, why Heinrich Haarberg emerged this spring and if the Huskers will pursue a quarterback in the portal now without Thompson.

Finally a few more thoughts on Noa Pola-Gates entering the portal and what remains with the Huskers ahead of the transfer deadline.

Husker247 Podcast: Portal and NFL Draft chatter Apr 27, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 Podcast returned on NFL Draft Day and discussed the latest happenings in Nebraska football post spring session, the transfer portal, the aforementioned draft and Nebraska baseball.

Things start with some early draft discussion before giving way to the portal. Any of Nebraska’s departures a surprise? Will Stephon Wynn be missed?

What about on the other end of things — does Nebraska look to add to its roster at all? Where would those spots be at if it does?

Then discussion turned to a lightening rod topic in what is happening at Colorado. What does the big roster shift in Boulder mean for the game in September?

Following a short break the trio return to discuss the NFL draft and make some predictions. When does Trey Palmer get drafted? Who takes him? How many Huskers are selected during the event? Who are the likely undrafted signees?

Finally after all the football talk, Michael Bruntz uses his best bedside manner to walk through another ugly midweek loss for the Huskers and to update where things sit in a season that appears to be going sideways.
