    Show notes

A long time coming, I'm pumped to finally share my conversation with pro and world champion climber Sasha DiGiulian. We don’t waste any time diving right into so many important topics. Starting with a conversation about goals and sharing them out with the world, making sure to hit on Sasha’s upbringing and journey to her first love that is climbing, and also touch on topics like disordered eating and bullying. Sasha also gets vulnerable as she talks through navigating injury and her progression through recovering from hip surgery during the pandemic, which she admits produced some pretty isolating and dark feelings along the way.

#HURDLEMOMENT: How to Navigate Emotional Eating & Embrace Mindfulness With Food Mar 30, 2022
    Show notes

There are a lot of different reasons we reach for food. For sustenance, sure. But oftentimes, it has a lot to do with what's happening in life. Specifically, what's happening with our emotions. I'm bringing in Stevie Lyn Smith today to talk about how to approach a more mindful approach with what we put into our bodies. We talk about why do we do it, how can we be more cognizant of it, when can it be a good thing (and yes, that’s possible) and other ways to add some mindfulness into what we put into our bodies.

    200. Kara Goucher, World-Renowned Runner & 2X Olympian Mar 28, 2022
    Show notes

Episode. 200. WHEN did we get here?! Honored to have Kara Goucher joining Hurdle for this milestone! We kick things off in episode 200 by talking about Kara’s recent diagnosis of runner’s dystonia, what that means, and how it’s affecting her emotionally and mentally. We also bring it back to talk about how she fell in love with the sport in the first place with the help of her late grandfather and what it was like losing him to COVID during the pandemic. Plus: Her journey to self acceptance and navigating disordered eating as a college athlete, and the hard work that went into both of Olympic experiences — first as an athlete and then as a commentator for NBC. We cap things off by chatting about the recent campaign for Altra that we were both a part of, highlighting that if you have a body — regardless of size — you are an athlete. I’m so grateful for Kara’s openness, and oh-so-amped to photobomb her Boston Marathon coverage. (I’m kidding, sort of …)

    198. Jaclyn Johnson, Founder of Create & Cultivate, Entrepreneur & Investor Mar 14, 2022
    Show notes

Multi-hyphenate: A person with several professions or skills. In other words, look up the definition of "multi-hyphenate" in the dictionary, and you may just find a photo of episode 198 guest Jaclyn Johnson. Welcome the entrepreneur, investor, best-selling author, and founder to Hurdle! You may know her as the founder of Create and Cultivate, a cult-favorite brand and media company that’s rooted in conversations, resources, events, and community for female millennial entrepreneurs and small business owners. We recently chatted on the heels of the launch of her newest adventure, New Money Ventures, a venture capital firm and brand incubator.

Jaclyn and I get into some of the nitty gritty when it comes to investing lingo, and in telling her story, she offers up a lot of practical career advice for everything from navigating lay-offs and contracting work to making a big pivot. Speaking of pivots, she also sheds some light on what it was like to pivot an experiential marketing brand during the pandemic, and reflects on the concept of work-life balance — AKA, if it can REALLY be achieved. I loved having Jaclyn — such a massively successful strong woman — on the show to dive into the ins and outs of all things business, and now I'm feeling mega-inspired to boss up and get to it!
