    Show notes

Your birthday comes around every year- and you never forget because it’s something that you look forward to! But we’d argue that there are certain financial tasks that we should also revisit at least once a year, but we’re less than enthusiastic about knocking them out. This neglect is compounded by the fact that our finances have gotten more complicated than ever. You likely have accounts everywhere: you might have multiple 401ks, savings accounts, credit cards- it might feel like there’s too much going on as you juggle more logins than you can keep up with. Now these are tasks that don’t need to become ongoing obligations, but we do think they will help you make your personal finances more manageable. Whether it’s something as straightforward and practical as making some tweaks to your budget or if it’s the beginning of a season of reevaluating your life goals, we have a number of tasks that will allow you to spring clean your finances.

Both of these resources exist to help nursing professionals achieve a sense of financial freedom in their lives. Given the demand for healthcare workers, there are a lot of career opportunities available so we’re excited to touch on that. Naseema also wrote the book, Smart Money, to give folks a step-by-step plan to crush their debt. But most impressively- Naseema has paid off over one million dollars of debt which doesn’t even seem possible- don’t worry, she explains her story! She details how she climbed out of massive debt as a single mother, the turning point in her journey towards financial independence, nursing as a cheat code to earning more, keeping lifestyle inflation in check, and much more.

    Show notes

Would you ever pick up the habit of smoking in order to lose some weight? After all it is effective- by lowering your metabolic rate and reducing your appetite you’re bound to shed a few pounds. It sounds like a quick fix worth considering, but ultimately we hope that this isn’t something that you would do because everyone is well aware of the longer-term health consequences of smoking. The downsides are too severe. But we think this is exactly what is happening when you prioritize getting rich over building wealth. Sure there will be some short-term goals and lifestyle improvements that you’ll be able to make, but the long-term effects of pursuing a lifestyle like this are ultimately going to undermine your financial foundation. Listen as we talk about the differences between getting rich and building wealth. We also highlight some unhealthy behaviors that we might be tempted towards, in the pursuit of riches. And then finally we discuss how it is that we can actually build our own wealth.
