    024: Harry Romero Sep 29, 2020
    Show notes

Harry Romero is one of the biggest US DJs in the world and has produced some of the most enduring house music records of all time. Growing up in a musical household in New Jersey, Harry was into the freestyle rhythms of early electro when his life changed upon hearing the Todd Terry produced ‘Bango’. Inspired by this new sound, Harry would visit The Sound Factory Bar in New York to watch Louie Vega DJ and then return home to spend hours creating his own sounds in front of the sampler. Quickly gathering a reputation as a beat production maestro, Harry created his own label and released some house music classics that are still getting played out today. In this chat we discover how Harry’s dedication to his craft has got him to where he is, the behind the scenes story of the first time he played at the Ministry Of Sound and how the dance music scene has re-energised him in recent years.

    023: Bongo Ben Sep 15, 2020
    Show notes

Bongo Ben is a live percussionist and session musician with current residencies for Clockwork Orange and Lovejuice. Inspired by the likes of local percussionist Magic Fingers as well as Defected’s Shovell and Manumission’s Pav, Ben purchased his own bongos and became self-taught by watching videos of these performers on YouTube. Quickly making a name for himself within his local scene Ben visited Ibiza for the first time and, armed with nothing more than a pair of bongos and a positive attitude, found himself playing at Space by the end of that initial trip. Ben’s career so far has seen him play alongside superstar DJs at iconic venues across the world, including: Amnesia, Café Mambo, Pikes, Printworks and Fabric. In this chat we discover how he has made it this far without ever having had any kind of formal training, his favourite moments from events he’s played at and about the time he ended up playing alongside Idris Elba at Ibiza’s Hi superclub.

    022: Mark Archer Sep 01, 2020
    Show notes

Mark Archer is the driving force and the man behind the mask of cheeky old skool rave outfit Altern 8. Inspired to buy some musical equipment by the Electro sounds he had discovered at a young age, Mark had the right pieces of kit and the knowledge to start soundtracking the early acid house explosion. Quickly getting signed to a label under the strength of his Detroit techno inspired Nexus 21 project, Mark and producing partner Chris Peat created Altern 8 to cater for the more ravey sounds that they were enjoying at clubs and events around the country. Wanting to keep themselves anonymous under heavy boiler suits and masks, the duo went on to become icons of the scene and Mark’s sets that pay homage to that heady era continue to fill dancefloors to this day.

    021: Dave Jones Aug 18, 2020
    Show notes

Dave Jones is a promoter and DJ who has been putting on parties and playing at events over the last three decades. Based in South Wales, it was a chance visit to the Hacienda in 1988 that propelled Dave from the football terraces to the dancefloors and DJ booths of UK clubland. Whether he was DJ-ing as a resident for one of the UK's longest running club nights Time Flies, or setting up his own night with a leaning towards the US soulful house sound, Dave has booked and played alongside some of the greats and has some great insight, anecdotes and advice for anyone wanting to follow a similar path. Back on the scene after a break from it all Dave continues to share his passion for the music by playing at events such as Clockwork Orange as well as producing his own podcast - inspired by this very series.

    020: Danny Rampling Aug 04, 2020
    Show notes

Danny Rampling is a superstar DJ who is one of the originators of the house music scene. After witnessing DJ Alfredo play in Amnesia on a fateful trip to Ibiza in 1987, Danny’s mind was opened up to how music can create a collective consciousness on the dancefloor and he decided to import this vibe back to Britain by setting up his legendary club night Shoom that then kickstarted the Summer Of Love in 1988. During this period Danny was also a host on the then pirate station of Kiss FM before moving to BBC Radio 1 where he hosted his iconic Friday night show the Love Groove Dance Party. Still very much a headliner on the scene, Danny is also an active campaigner for movements that seek to save our clubs, venues, artists and dancefloors – listen for the stories and be inspired by Mr Rampling’s call to arms to help support the night time industry.
