    hot pursuit by AsianBossGirl

welcome to hot pursuit; a podcast about creating conversations where nothing is off limits hosted by three best friends Jen, Em, and Madelyn.

this podcast is produced by AsianBossGirl.

ever since the beloved ABG hosts Melody, Helen, and Janet took their hiatus, we decided there was a space to fill where individuals could continue vulnerable conversations about life, love, and friendship. we value digging deep, being unhinged, and stepping out courageously in topics of conversation that may be more taboo than your typical lunch conversation. join us as we continue the AsianBossGirl legacy with a podcast of our own. we desire to model friendship and vulnerability to our listeners while challenging ourselves to grow in self confidence, friendship, and authenticity.

buckle up! it’s gonna be a wild ride.

Episode 30: Pursuit of Yappiness Dec 21, 2018
    Show notes

What is a "Yappie"? Some would say it's the epitome of the model minority myth. Others would argue there's nothing wrong with it. In today's episode, we'll explore the definition and effects of a "yappie" life with a special guest who has created an entire mini-series around this concept. His name is Philip Wang. He is a writer, director, actor, and he has been running a lil ol’ YouTube channel called Wong Fu Productions, even before the beginning of YouTube! For someone who stumbled deep into ‘the industry’ through his work, Philip has since voluntarily used his platform to push the Asian American agenda forward through his shorts, his social, his outreach, his mentorship, and many other initiatives that have created a wave for positive community change. Moreover, he has spent many nights single handedly guiding the ABG ladies through the ups and downs of editing and producing a podcast, and he is the crux and biggest supporter of what you are hearing today. We hope you enjoy this episode and this ABB as much as we do. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message

Episode 29: Asian Women - Do We Fit the Stereotypes? Dec 14, 2018
    Show notes

Whether it’s the color of our skin, the job title on our LinkedIn, or the city we answer when someone asks us where we are from, each of these aspects of identity are an opportunity for someone to assume other traits about us. In this episode, we discuss a handful of stereotypes that apply to us as women of Asian descent: from our driving skills to our math skills, our physical strength to our bedroom preferences, and our spending habits (or lack thereof) to our tolerance for alcohol. We also dig into stereotypes associated with each of our professions: fashion, finance, and technology, as well as the neighborhoods we grew up in: San Jose, Boston, and Orange County. Take a listen and let us know if you can relate. What are some stereotypes applied to you, and are they sometimes true? Please excuse the choppiness in the first half of the episode - we had some technical difficulties! Thank you in advance for your understanding! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message

Episode 28: The One About Friendships Nov 30, 2018
    Show notes

Friendships. One of the most important elements in our lives. From the people you go out with on Friday nights to the individuals you can always depend on during tough times...some can say our friends are AS important as family. From a young age, we are taught the idea of friendships and it’s basic foundations/needs. But as we grow older and our interests, values, and where we are in life change, our relationships with our friends change as well. Some remain present in our lives and some relationships take other forms. In today’s episode, we want to talk about the different types of friends/friendships we had in our stages of life, what happens when you grow apart, and how we define a good friendship. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message

    Episode 27: Thankful, Now! Nov 23, 2018
    Show notes

Happy Thanksgiving from the AsianBossGirl team! It’s been over a year now since we’ve started this podcast journey, and we fully recognize that we would not be here without the incredible talents and support of our team (Philip Wang, Kihong Lee, Eric Wang, and Michelle Hsieh!). We also know we wouldn’t be 3 seasons in without all of the gracious love and support from all of YOU! Now more than ever, we see the importance of sharing stories, relating, and growing together in a unified, supportive way. Thank you from the bottom of our soon to be very full bellies. We hope this is only the beginning of a much larger movement for all of us ABGs + ABBs x — In line w/ today’s celebration of thankfulness, we talk about the little things we’re thankful for (think: lash glue, other families babies, facetime) to the bigger things (think: mommas, friends, bros). Take a second to think about a moment you were thankful for this week - what made you smile? Helped you in a way you didn’t expect it to? Share with us! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message

    Show notes

Before ABG, there was ABM: Asian Boss Moms. In today’s episode, we talk about our mothers’ specific journeys to the west. Their stories help define who we are as individuals/daughters/sons and provide the context of how we were raised, our values/morals, and the lessons we were taught. In this episode, we share OUR mothers’ personal immigration stories, and we know these do not represent every immigrants’ journey. There are so many varied experiences we need to capture and share. We encourage you to learn about your personal history and ask your family about their immigration story --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message

    Episode 23: Home-Coming Oct 26, 2018
    Show notes

Hello, hello! We are BACK with another fun-filled season PACKed with juicy episodes, a few guest speakers near and dear to our hearts (ABMs!) and other topics that we’ve gathered from YOU (our listeners). The three of us have had quite an eventful summer, from promotions, to travel, to welp -- aging. In this episode, we’ll catch you up on what we have been up to and also focus heavily on the non-social media, non-fabricated side of travel. What is it really like to relocate and live in another city/country? From elation to frustration to a love/hate relationship. “Home” genuinely becomes the most loaded, beautiful, and yet pull-at-the-heartstrings word you could ever imagine. The expat experience sounds like a dream, but there’s so much to it that makes it not so much of a fantasy. Join us as we share our experiences with being away from our definition of “home”, in travel. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message

Episode 22: Asian American Women in Media May 18, 2018
    Show notes

As a podcast focused on the perspective of modern day Asian American women, we thought it would be fitting to dedicate an episode to highlighting the Asian women who have influenced us. We talk about Asian American women of today and also reminisce about those who shaped us growing up - noting that we were drawn to unconventional sources because of the lack of AA representation (Sailor Moon anyone?). We discuss the importance of relatability versus influence, and how the changing media landscape has affected the amount and types of role models available to Asian American women today. Listen in on this meaningful discussion to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage month! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message

    Episode 21: Q & A May 11, 2018
    Show notes

We’re back with another Q&A episode! We've been getting an overwhelming amount of messages, emails, and DMs from you all, and it's been super encouraging for our team to read every morning (thank you!) As much as all the messages reassures us this podcast was the right thing to do, we’re not always able to respond to every one... but we see and read all of them! That’s why we love incorporating these episodes into the season! It finally allows us to respond back and engage with you all. This time around we answer questions ranging from our love language, our Asian American upbringing, how to build confidence in the work place, and...dare we say it...masturbation. Take a listen and please continue to send us questions. We’ll make sure to add it to our list! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message
