The Stepford Wives (1975) Mar 26, 2025

Show notes

We'll just die if we don't get this recipe, which means we're discussing Bryan Forbes' divisive 1975 chiller The Stepford Wives, itself an adaptation of Ira Levin's 1972 novel(la) of the same name!

Join us as we go all in on the male-directed and male-written film that satirizes, well, men. From the Playboy Bunny origins of the Stepford wives to conflicting thoughts on Walter, there's a lot to discuss!

Plus: praise for Bobbie (Paula Prentiss), a lesson in female fashion and Raymond Chandler for Trace, thinking about Stepford dogs, and wondering if Easy-On Spray Starch really does save you half an hour a day (at least!).

Show notes

Prepare to shriek because we're talking about Philip Kaufman's remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) for week 3 of 'Doppelgänger and Deception' month.

There's a lot to unpack in this technical masterpiece, including the vital early character work, the amazing practical effects, and that fatalistic ending.

Plus: directing bukkake, debating Leonard Nimoy's Kibner, the "Me Decade" of the 70s, one of cinema's most devastating deaths, and comparison to the other Body Snatcher remakes.

Eat that second gummy and make sure your dick isn't too small for his butt because we're discussing Craig Johnson's comedy horror film The Parenting, which sports one hell of an ensemble cast.

Join us as we address the "sketchiness" of the film before fully submitting to its charms. From surprise comedian Brandon Flynn to Brian Cox's hilariously homophobic rants to Parker Posey's spacey AirBnb host, there's no shortage of laughs in this delightful little movie.
