Micro Queers: We Are Still Here (2015) Jun 05, 2025

Show notes

We're celebrating the 10th anniversary of queer director Ted Geoghegan's feature debut, We Are Still Here (2015).

This is a quiet indie film with some serious star power (Barbara Crampton, Larry Fessenden, Monte Markham, and Lisa Marie?!), as well as great FX. But a decade later, it's the quiet depiction of grief that we appreciate a great deal more.

Deliverance (1972) Jun 04, 2025

Show notes

Prep your canoes and don't anger the locals because we're discussing John Boorman's (in)famous 1972 thriller Deliverance and all the baggage that comes with it.

Join us as we take a look at a film whose reputation precedes it, from its male rape scene to its portrayal of rural mountain folk. There's plenty to unpack here!

Plus: Burt Reynolds' lamb bone, squealing pigs, raping landscapes, and the poignancy of watching a grown man weep.

Frankenhooker (1990) May 28, 2025

Show notes

"Got any money?! Wanna party?!" For the second time this year, we're checking out a Frank Henenlotter text as the indie director's Frankenhooker celebrates its 35th anniversary.

Expect plenty of praise for Patty Mullen's (too brief!) comedic performance, talk of the film's exploitation elements, and debate about Jeffrey's likeability.

Plus: sequel vs remake, a trans reading, and why exploding dummies are always funny.
