Ashley Larkin's superpower lies at the intersection of creative expression and healing. A psychotherapist focused on helping people remember their own agency to find healing and restore trust in their inner voice.

Her advocacy is steeped in subverting the colonized norms of the mental health industry. Championing education and access to mindfulness and well-being practices that remind us all of our innate power to shape our lives. Her approach is as diverse as it is inclusive, using art and music as tools to invite wellness into culture and the everyday places that are just as vital as the therapy room.

Today, Ashley serves as the Head of Wellness at True Voice, a wellness app helping to cultivate well-being through mindfulness and meditation practices. Her passion for this role is fueled by a commitment to serve overlooked communities, particularly Black and Brown folks, in the wellness space. More than just an app, she is cultivating a sanctuary of self discovery, healing and empowerment for all to feel at home in.

A visionary, Ashley’s work is imagining a new way forward, where well-being is accessible to all people and not just for the few.

Shabazz Larkin is an artist and activist interested in creating images of black culture and contemporary spirituality. Shabazz is a multi-disciplinary artist, painting vibrant portraiture on canvas, typographic printing techniques and film. His practice of vandalizing photographs, overwhelming use of color and bold typography, at times feel like visual concepts better suited for the editorial section of Rolling Stone.

This technique only veils Larkin’s true intention to explore societal issues of race, justice and religion. Shabazz is most known for his “Black Magic” collection, a series of portraits that capture the beauty of resilience in black culture. Larkin’s newest work is a reckless abandon into pop-art — he’s begun writing notes from God and placing them around Nashville, TN.

He is also a student of mindfulness and the head of content for the True Voicewellness app.

EbonyJanice is the founder and CEO of The Free People Project and The EbonyJanice Project. She earned her Bachelors in Cultural Anthropology and Political Science and a Masters of Arts in Social Change with a concentration in Spiritual Leadership, Womanist Theology, and Racial Justice. The core and center of her work is the professional and personal liberation of Black Women and Femmes.
EbonyJanice is a woman of action. Her contributions to an all-girls high school in Nayhururu, Kenya, include creating the school curriculum for girls' leadership. She's continued to support this school with monetary donations. These donations have built a computer lab, two additional classrooms, and a dormitory. She's updated the technological capabilities so that the school can access WIFI, added a large screen TV for Zoom communications and conferences, and paid the tuition for an entire class of girls.
EbonyJanice enjoys theater, playing the viola, and speaking French. When she isn’t preaching, reaching, and teaching, she is ordering croissants in coffee shops around the world, reading romance novels, journaling, listening to Beyonce, laughing loudly, practicing peace, and expressing gratitude.

Ann Cvetkovich is currently Professor in the Feminist Institute of Social Transformation at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She has been Ellen Clayton Garwood Centennial Professor of English and Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.

She is the author of Mixed Feelings: Feminism, Mass Culture, and Victorian Sensationalism (Rutgers, 1992); An Archive of Feelings: Trauma, Sexuality, and Lesbian Public Cultures (Duke, 2003); and Depression: A Public Feeling (Duke, 2012). She co-edited (with Ann Pellegrini) “Public Sentiments,” a special issue of The Scholar and Feminist Online, and (with Janet Staiger and Ann Reynolds) Political Emotions (Routledge, 2010). She has been coeditor, with Annamarie Jagose, of GLQ: A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies. She currently has two books in progress: Feeling My Way Through the Archives: A Journey in Queer Method and How To Live in A Body: A Survival Guide for Troubled Times.

The One About the Hidden Link Between Black Wellness & Black Liberation Feb 05, 2024

Rebeckah Price is a wellness advocate, yoga instructor (RYT 200), and meditation teacher, and wellness entrepreneur that draws on her wealth of knowledge of working in underserved, marginalized, racialized, and immigrant communities in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean. With a background and education in Community Development and Engagement she saw the ways in which the social determinants of health had direct impacts on one's ability to be well. As an avid yoga practitioner she saw a gap in the ways in which people had access to the necessary resources and tools to support their wellbeing. Paralleling the worlds of community development and wellness, she sought to find a more mindful balance between her work and community impact. In 2013 she founded irise yoga + wellness- as a way to connect, promote, bring awareness to and foster the inclusion of people of colour and other historically marginalized groups in yoga and wellness spaces.

In 2023 Rebeckah was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and is actively working on creating an inclusive platform to help support people with chronic illnesses and autoimmune diseases with the resources to help them along their wellness journey.

Rebeckah’s work has been featured in: Refinery29, well + good, The Cut, Essence magazine and Reader's Digest. She has guest lectured at Universities across Canada, and taught for companies like Genuine Health, Nike, Shopify, Footlocker Canada, and many others.

Outside of teaching, mentoring, and contributing to her community, Rebeckah works to intentionally make wellness more accessible through her philanthropic work. When she is not busy wearing her many hats she can be found courtside at one of her three sons' basketball games or taking long walks in nature.

Rachel Cargle is an Akron, Ohio born writer, entrepreneur and philanthropic innovation. Her work and upcoming book with Penguin Random House, centers the reimagining of womanhood, solidarity and self and how we are in relationship with ourselves and one another. In 2018 she founded The Loveland Foundation, Inc., a non-profit offering free therapy to Black women and girls.

Her umbrella company, The Loveland Group houses a collection of Rachel’s social ventures including The Great Unlearn, a self-paced, donation-based learning community, The Great Unlearn for Young Learners – an online learning space for young folks launching in 2022, and Elizabeth’s Bookshop & Writing Centre – an innovative literacy space designed to amplify, celebrate and honor the work of writers who are often excluded from traditional cultural, social and academic canons.

Sarah Kendzior is the bestselling author of THE VIEW FROM FLYOVER COUNTRY (2018), HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT (2020), and THEY KNEW (2022). She is also the co-host of Gaslit Nation, a weekly podcast which covers corruption in the United States and the rise of authoritarianism around the world.

Dr. Ayesha Khan is an abolitionist, anarchist, clinical microbiologist/ infectious diseases specialist, organizer, political educator and writer focused on decolonizing medicine, dismantling capitalist systems and building collectivist systems of community care & research. As a land and ocean defender from the Malabar Coast of South India, Ayesha takes an ecological approach to healing that addresses human health as being inextricably connected to the health of our planet (the land & all non-human life forms). Ayesha's work is part of a global effort to sustain our communities by tackling the socio-political conditions that cause disease, distress or relational issues. As a displaced migrant who grew up in the global diaspora, Ayesha guides people in their journey to cope with and divest from capitalist/ colonial systems by grounding in community, culture, ancestral knowledge & local ecosystems. Ayesha is an Afro-Indian, nonbinary (any pronouns), queer, Hindu-Muslim-Animist, divergent artist, mentor, meme creator, lover and community caregiver.

Ben McBride is a visionary leader of radical belonging. The co-founder of the Empower Initiative, a capacity building firm devoted to empowering organizations and communities, he is a leading expert in fostering belonging and public safety reform. Through his dedicated work as an internationally recognized peacemaker, faith leader, activist, and sought-after speaker, Ben uniquely develops strong leaders and builds dynamic cultures of empathy, allyship, and belonging.

Ben was listed as one of the 2020 top faith leaders to watch by the Center for American Progress. Jess Mally is a London based antiracism educator, writer, speaker, podcast host, creative and events producer, consultant and more. With a passion for Social Change, Mental Health, the Arts and Spirituality they hope to use any and all means available to her, to tell stories that shape a better world. Jess co-founded the DEI Agency BELOVD alongside Marvyn Harrison, building consultancy frameworks, writing and delivering workshops across all matters pertaining to DEI and creating a strong network. She has since moved on from the business to focus on antiracism education, consultancy and system change in particular. Beyond that, Jess works as a writer for various publications, consults and curates events for organisations aligned with her values, runs workshops, hosts a podcast called The Third Way Podcast and is actively involved in advancing the interests of Black Communities in the UK and worldwide.

The author of Red Lip Theology, she was named by Sojourners as one of “10 Christian Women Shaping the Church in 2020” and has written for Essence, Glamour, The Root, VICE, Shondaland, Madame Noire, and the Me Too Movement.

Candice created the “Lemonade Syllabus” social media campaign, founded the media boutique Zion Hill Media Group, and, in memory of her mother, established The LouiseMarie Foundation to support HBCU nursing students and community mental health projects. Using Truth in the Face of Opposition with Tarika Powell Jan 22, 2022

Tarika is a queer, neurodivergent environmental policy professional who specializes in helping communities fight against large-scale fossil fuel terminals. Over the past decade, she helped kill dozens of proposed fossil fuel projects in the Pacific Northwest. She was a protester at the police precinct occupation in Seattle in 2020, and is a vocal critic of both police violence and the commodification of the BLM movement. She lives in Philly, where she is building an advocacy and education space arout neurodivergence, mental health, and outdoor therapy.

How History Moves the Conversation Forward with Lettie Elizabeth Jan 15, 2022

Lettie Elizabeth is a historian, educator, and advocate living in Wilmington, NC. She is also the host and owner of her podcast History Shows Us. Lettie’s passion for telling history’s truths and connecting the past to today’s racial and social justice issues is evident in the work she does.

She received her MA in History in 2015, focusing primarily on American history and specializing in African-American studies. She received her MA in Conflict Management & Resolution in May 2020, allowing her to use mediation, facilitation, and effective communication skills in her work as an educator and advocate. Leading and facilitating workshops to equip people with skills to have the “hard” conversations is something Lettie also enjoys.

Lettie was recently announced as a brand ambassador for America Hates Us. She has been a guest on several podcasts and is involved in her local community. Her Patreon community enjoys tons of history and antiracism content from her throughout the month which includes webinars, live Q&As, and a book club with convos! In addition to educating and collaborating online, she is currently working on organizing a couple of workshops to offer in the near future. Why Liberation Requires Healing Justice with Erica Woodland Dec 18, 2021

Erica Woodland is a black queer/genderqueer facilitator, consultant and healing justice practitioner born and raised in Baltimore, MD. He is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 18 years experience working at the intersections of movements for racial, gender, economic, trans and queer justice and liberation. He has extensive experience working with youth, people of color, LGBTQ people, and people with disabilities across the country. Erica is the Founding Director of the National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network, a healing justice organization committed to transforming mental health for queer and trans people of color. Under his leadership, NQTTCN has trained and mobilized hundreds of mental health practitioners committed to intervening on the legacy of harm and violence of the medical industrial complex while building liberatory models of care rooted in abolition.

Erica’s consulting work is founded in transformative practice to strengthen movement organizations’ ability to integrate healing justice into their political organizing work. He has worked with a number of local and national organizations to develop structures and practices that promote sustainability, healing, alignment, and impact. Erica also has a private practice where he provides psychotherapy and clinical supervision with a focus on harm reduction, intergenerational trauma and resilience, grief, and family therapy.

Jill Louise Busby (more affectionately known as jillisblack) is a writer and filmmaker critiquing, imploding, and barrel-laughing at our personal and communal hierarchies; the myth of white fragility (and other words for racism); the endlessly-pending and highly-exclusive revolution, identity, and reaction-based illusions of societal progress; and the boundaries that all place on our lives.

Believing a shift away from anti-difference begins with an outpouring of radical, multi-generational, inclusive, and validating honesty, Jill’s work charms audiences just past their limits of comfort, inviting them to seek a new and more genuine freedom in the discomfort of truth.

How a Fashion Challenge Became an Anti-Human Trafficking Movement with Blythe Hill Nov 27, 2021

Blythe Hill is the CEO and Founder of the Dressember Foundation, an anti-trafficking nonprofit organization. Through their annual campaign, thousands of people across the world commit to wearing dresses or ties for the month of December as a way to raise awareness and funding for anti-trafficking work. Since 2013, Dressember advocates have raised $13MM USD and resourced dozens of anti-trafficking programs across the US and the world. Dressember has received press attention from the likes of Forbes, Glamour, InStyle, Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, the TODAY Show, among others. In 2019, Blythe was named one of InStyle's 50 Badass Women, alongside powerhouse ladies like Michelle Obama, Christine Blasey Ford, Angela Davis, and Gayle King.

Blythe currently lives in Seattle with her husband, son, and their dog, Friday. She loves a good red wine, a good cheese and, clearly, a good pun.

Multidisciplinary artist TRISHES challenges the confines of art and constructs of self by using live looping, visual art and spoken word to delve into our psyches. Her undeniably original songwriting, fleshed out by hip-hop beats and pop hooks, examines human struggle through an anthropological lens to prompt listeners on a journey of self-inquiry.
As a musician, the Trinidadian-American has been featured on NPR, Billboard, Rolling Stone India, MTV India, and VH1 India; and she has performed internationally, playing festivals like SXSW, CMW, Women’s Redrock Festival, Tune In Tel Aviv, Linda Perry’s Rock N Relief, Pyramid Yoga Festival and more. Her visual art has been part of Adidas “Nite Jogger” campaign and she has been nominated for Best Music Video at the South Asian Film Festival two years in a row, including one nomination for her directorial debut on her music video “Gaslight.” Her debut album “The Id” is out now, and this December the artist will give her first TEDx talk at TEDxDelthorneWomen.

Latasha Morrison is a bridge-builder, reconciler, and a compelling voice in the fight for racial justice. In 2016, she founded Be the Bridge, a non-profit organization equipping more than 1,600 sub-groups across five countries to serve as ambassadors of racial reconciliation. Numerous organizations have recognized her as a leading social justice advocate, including Facebook’s Community Leadership Program, Forbes, and EBONY magazine.
A native of North Carolina, Tasha earned degrees in human development and business leadership. Her first book, Be the Bridge, released in October 2019. She resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

Always Looking Forward with Bree Newsome Oct 03, 2020

Bree Newsome is a writer, artist, and activist who drew national attention in 2015 when she climbed the flagpole in front of the South Carolina Capitol building and removed a confederate battle flag that was originally raised in 1961 as a racist statement of opposition to the Civil Rights Movement and lunch counter sit-ins occurring at the time. The massacre of nine black parishioners by a white supremacist at Emanuel AME Zion Church in Charleston reignited controversy over South Carolina’s continued endorsement of a hate symbol. Newsome’s act of defiance against the culture of white supremacy has been memorialized in photographs, artwork and film and has become a symbol of resistance and the empowerment of women.

Candice Marie Benbow is a theologian, essayist and creative who situates her work at the intersections of beauty, faith, feminism and culture. Her work gives voice to the shared experiences of healing and journeying toward wholeness.
In May 2016, following the release of Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade, Candice created the #LemonadeSyllabus hashtag and social media campaign. With contributions from over 70 Black women, Candice released the syllabus as a free downloadable resource of over 250 works centered around the lives of Black women.

She is also Founder of Zion Hill Media Group, a media boutique that produces messages of hope and healing across various platforms. Zion Hill’s flagship projects include a women’s lifestyle site, online courses and educational projects, and progressive faith based content.

Toppling A Dictator with Srdja Popovic Dec 21, 2019

Srdja breaks down the elements of what makes a successful movement of resistance and what that looks like in practice.

Show Notes:

Srdja Popovic is the Founder and Executive director of the Center for Applied Nonviolent Actions and Strategies (CANVAS), a non-profit organization based in Belgrade, Serbia that aims to teach the use of nonviolence to make a change.

He was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia (then part of Yugoslavia), in 1973. Popovic played the guitar in a rock band and graduated from the Faculty of Biology in Belgrade, holding a Master’s degree (MA) in animal ecology. Since his early 20ies, he has focused on activism, democracy and human rights issues.

In 1998, Popovic founded the student movement “Otpor!” (“Resistance!”) which played a crucial role in ousting president Slobodan Milosevic, former Serbian dictator accused of war crimes. After Milosevic was defeated in 2000, Popovic was elected to the Serbian Parliament where he served from 2000 until 2004.

Following his career in the Serbian Parliament, Popovic went on to found CANVAS, acting as its executive director ever since. CANVAS was created with the intent of teaching people all over the world about how to be successful in nonviolent conflict. So far, the organization has worked with activists from 46 different countries, spreading the knowledge of the nonviolent strategies and tactics used by Otpor! worldwide.

He is currently the 53rd Rector of the University of St. Andrews. He commenced the role of the University Rector for a period of 3 years from 1 November 2017.

Apart from being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012, Popovic was listed as one of the "Top 100 Global Thinkers" of 2011 by the Foreign Policy Magazine. And in 2014 he was listed as a "Young Global Leader" by the World Economic Forum in Davos. Popovic is also the author of the recent book Blueprint for Revolution.

Rethinking Incarceration to Fight Concentration Camps with Dominique DuBois Gilliard Sep 28, 2019

Dominique DuBois Gilliard is the Director of Racial Righteousness and Reconciliation for the Evangelical Covenant Church. He is the author of Rethinking Incarceration: Advocating for Justice that Restores, which won the 2018 Book of the Year Award for InterVarsity Press. Rethinking Incarceration also received a Starred Review from Publisher’s Weekly, and was named as one of the 2019 Resources of the year by Outreach Magazine. Gilliard also serves on the board of directors for the Christian Community Development Association and Evangelicals for Justice. In 2015, Huffington Post named Gilliard as one of the “Black Christian Leaders Changing the World."

An ordained minister, Gilliard has served in pastoral ministry in Atlanta, Chicago, and Oakland. He earned two bachelor’s degrees (in African American Studies and History), a master’s degree in History, and a Master of Divinity degree from North Park Seminary; where he currently serves as an adjunct professor. Gilliard also serves as an adjunct professor at Kilns College.
