Articles about ghostly cowboys still riding the range, a ghost wandering around looking for his own dismembered hand, and a parrot so aggressive and foul-mouthed it was blamed for being demonically possessed. There’s also a woman who ate herself to death. And no… not in the way you’re thinking. Oh, and somewhere in the middle of all that, there’s a very real headline calmly informing readers that Santa Claus is dead. These aren’t urban legends. These are real newspaper stories people read over breakfast and then just went to work like nothing was wrong. Ghostly cowboys. Demonic parrots. Haunted cabs. Dead Santa. Built in 1926, the Biltmore Hotel rose as a playground for the wealthy, but it wasn't long before its reputation shifted due to a massive shootout between mobsters. During World War II, the hotel became a military hospital, and today guests report phantom footsteps, flickering lights, and apparitions drifting through ballrooms and corridors. Just miles away, the Deering Estate sits atop ancient burial grounds, it's quiet beauty masking something older and unsettled. Built by Charles Deering, the estate is now said to be plagued by shadow figures, disembodied voices, and restless spirits tied not just to the house—but to the land itself.

Still living in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amid the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of them decides to venture into the dark heart of the mainland, he soon discovers a mutation that has spread to not only the infected, but other survivors as well.
