Homeschooling IRL | Parenting & homeschooling — unfiltered.

Homeschooling in real life — the messy, funny, faith-filled truth about raising and teaching your kids. Hosts Fletch and Kendra Fletcher pull back the curtain on what homeschooling and parenting actually look like day to day: the wins, the meltdowns, the questions that keep you up at night, and the conversations most parents are afraid to have out loud. Every episode brings honest talk, plenty of laughs, and practical encouragement — often with a favorite guest — on everything from curriculum and burnout to marriage, faith, and the hard stuff: talking to your kids about sex, screens, growing up, and keeping your sanity along the way. If you’re homeschooling from a Christian worldview and you’re tired of the highlight reel, pull up a chair. You’re among friends who get it. Honest, evergreen conversations for every season of the homeschool journey. Part of the Ultimate Homeschool Podcast Network.

Free homeschooling podcat about being burned out and tossing in the towel.Wait! This is NOT a rebroadcast of an old episode! Homeschooling is a Buzzkill has been one of our most popular downloads, so we decided to sit down and record a completely new episode. After more than two years of podcasting, it was time to discuss again one of our favorite topics: how homeschooling can be a “buzzkill”.

The first Homeschooling is a Buzzkill was one of our favorite episodes to record, but as we listened to it we both thought the actual recording just stunk. Since then we have new equipment and a few new things to say, so join us again for a brand new fun and lively discussion as we re-record how homeschooling can be a buzzkilll!

    Show notes

Free homeschooling podcast about taking time to nurture yourselfOn this episode, HIRLer Chris calls in and asks us: “How can I be a good homeschooling parent raising kids and still take time for the things that feed my soul and bring me joy?”

We jumped on this topic, because we love to remind homeschoolers not to “lose themselves”in the midst of schooling the family.

We answer the most important question: “How can you be a good care-taker if you are not taking care of yourself?” The short answer is: You can’t! You will need to tune in for the rest of the discussion to hear Fletch and Kendra sit down for another honest discussion about the importance of nurturing your soul in the midst of caring for others.

Jesus vs. Santa – HIRL Episode 79 Nov 30, 2015
    Show notes

Free homeschool podcast discussing Christmas and Santa ClausDoes Santa have any place in the celebration of Christmas? If you listen to some homeschoolers talk about it, event the mention of Santa Claus associated with Christmas will land you in the “loner’s corner” of your co-op. Yet, others celebrate good ol’ jolly Santa Claus right next to the baby Jesus. There is also a third category of homeschoolers (like Fletch) who enjoy stirring the pot and cracking off remarks like: “You know…if you rearrange the letters in Santa…it spells S-A-T-A-N.” Fletch can be cheeky that way!

    Where does that leave us?

Should we allow Santa to have a seat at the Christmas table or should he and Rudolph be hidden high up on the shelf with that pesky elf?

With sleighbells ringing and all the yuletide they can muster, Fletch and Kendra sit down for an open, honest discussion about the celebration of Christmas and answer the question: What should Christian homeschooling parents do with Santa Claus at Christmas? Tune in and join them for a fun and lively debate on this edition of HomeschoolingIRL.

Free Homeschooling Podcast about stress during the holidaysThis is our final installment in our mini-series of episodes called: Surviving the Holidays. You are already dealing with a full plate and often the holiday season is just one more thing. Next, if we are being really honest, we will admit that the holidays are pre-designed to stress out moms, because everything falls on their shoulders. Lastly, what about “mom guilt” during the holidays?

We continue and conclude this episode with a discussion about how to redeem the Christmas holidays and some practical suggestions on keeping yourself from becoming spread to thin. Tune in and don’t miss this one.

HIRL-Episode-76We are in the middle of producing a mini-series of episodes called: Surviving the Holidays. What happens when you are forced to spend time during the holidays with a tricky family situation. On this episode, we focus on what to do when your family does not accept your choices or you struggle with the choices they have made for themselves.

How do we gather with our larger families during the holiday season and represent the love and grace of Jesus? How do we as families learn to celebrate the holidays in the midst of challenging family situations? Can we learn to live as examples of Jesus through the criticism?

Join Fletch and Kendra as they sit down with homeschool mom and very real friend, Cheryl Beech, for a discussion about living a gospel-centered life in the midst of the holidays. Don’t miss this one!
