Homeschooling IRL | Parenting & homeschooling — unfiltered.

Homeschooling in real life — the messy, funny, faith-filled truth about raising and teaching your kids. Hosts Fletch and Kendra Fletcher pull back the curtain on what homeschooling and parenting actually look like day to day: the wins, the meltdowns, the questions that keep you up at night, and the conversations most parents are afraid to have out loud. Every episode brings honest talk, plenty of laughs, and practical encouragement — often with a favorite guest — on everything from curriculum and burnout to marriage, faith, and the hard stuff: talking to your kids about sex, screens, growing up, and keeping your sanity along the way. If you’re homeschooling from a Christian worldview and you’re tired of the highlight reel, pull up a chair. You’re among friends who get it. Honest, evergreen conversations for every season of the homeschool journey. Part of the Ultimate Homeschool Podcast Network.

    Show notes

Free homeschool podcast discussing what to do when your kid discovers pornography.DISCLAIMER: WE DEAL WITH MATURE TOPICS ON THIS EPISODE. DECIDE IF YOUR LITTLE ONES SHOULD LISTEN ALONG.

What do you do when your kid stumbles upon pornography?

Most of us homeschool for a reason, but we assume that the vast majority of us are homeschooling because we take our responsibility of shepherding our children very seriously. With all of the safe guards in place it is nearly impossible to protect your children from pornography in this sex saturated culture.

On this episode we tackle a question from a listener who wants us to talk about what to do when your young child accidentally discovers pornography.

We invited our favorite guests Barrett and Jenifer Johnson, author of The Talks, to walk through this topic with us. We answer the following questions: Should we have safeguards? What do we do when they fail? How do we recover? What about boys vs. girls? HIRLers you don’t want to miss this show! Real answers from real parents about really tricky topics.

    Show notes

Free homeschooling podcast about teaching your kids to write.Do you struggle with teaching writing to your homeschool kids? This is the episode for you.

As homeschool parents, some of us were not given great tools for writing in our own education, so when it comes to teaching the subject, we already feel ill-prepared. Others of us are great writers and love to write, but we have no idea how to teach our kids how to take great ideas from their head and put them into words on paper.

We are joined in the studio by Kim Kautzer who developed Write Shop writing program for homeschoolers. During our interview Kim encourages our listeners by providing the basic steps to get over the writing roadblocks you may have in your homeschool. If writing is the “big but” in your homeschool, you need to listen to this episode of HomeschoolingIRL.

    HIRL-Episode-106

Is there a role for art in the curriculum for every homeschool family? What should you do if your strength is not art or art education? We know that art most often reflects the current state of culture, so how do we decided what sort of art to expose our kids to?

On this episode of Homeschooling in Real Life, Fletch and Kendra discuss music, movies, dance, and art with Artios Academies founder Lori Lane. Drawing on the music degrees and performance experience of both Lori and Kendra, our discussion touches on the who, what, where, when, and how of performing and visual arts training in the homeschool setting, with a generous dose of the gospel covering the whole conversation.
