A Pod of Their Own, Episode 103: May you live in interesting times Sep 22, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.

This week, we begin by discussing the difficult position the Mets find themselves in this offseason—with lots of holes to fill, but not in a position to rebuild. We also talk about the possibility of Billy Beane as President of Baseball Operations.

In our baseball segment this week, we talk about the dugout spat between Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. We also discuss the rising cost to attend a baseball game and how that makes the game inaccessible to fans.

We also remind everyone about our upcoming fundraising event this Saturday at Katch in Astoria at 5:00pm. Please come if you are able to! We have lots of awesome prizes to bid on—including a signed bat from Brandon Nimmo and a signed ball from Michael Conforto—all to benefit the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.

From Complex To Queens, Episode 134: Put 2021 in the books (kinda) Sep 21, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system.

We knew this moment would come eventually. It always does. The 2021 minor league season has come to a conclusion, for the most part. The Syracuse Mets season will continue, but 2021 is over for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Brooklyn Cyclones, St. Lucie Mets, and FCL Mets.

UnforMETable, Episode 69: Kevin Collins Sep 21, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

The Mets signed Kevin Collins as a 17 year old in 1964. The infielder was rushed to the majors due to combination of baseball’s pre-draft era waiver rules and the young team’s many needs, and injuries and a lack of proper development time would soon stunt any opportunity for Collins to flourish.

Passed on the organizational depth chart by other youngsters such as Bud Harrelson, Collins transitioned to a role as a utility infielder. After missing out on an opportunity to claim a platoon role at third base in early 1969, the still young infielder would soon miss out on experiencing the Miracle Mets’ run, as he became a key component in the trade that brought eventual 1969 World Series MVP Donn Clendenon to New York.

If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments.

Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable). Tune in next week for another tale from the Mets’ past.

UnforMETable, Episode 68: Mike Scott Sep 17, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

The Mets drafted Mike Scott in the second round of the 1976 draft, hoping the hard-throwing right-hander would develop into a future pitching star. Unfortunately, Scott never developed a secondary pitch and his Mets career would fizzle out.

After some mixed success in his first couple of years in Houston, Scott would learn how to throw the split-fingered fastball from Roger Craig. With this new pitch—or perhaps some illegal doctoring of the ball—Scott would find sudden and massive success. And would make himself the biggest potential obstacle in his former team’s dramatic and treacherous path to the 1986 World Championship.

If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments.

Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable). Tune in next week for another tale from the Mets’ past.

Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 78: Bad Play, Bad Tweets Sep 16, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore.

The Mets took two of three games from the Yankees over the weekend, giving one last injection of hope into this maddening season. But then the Cardinals came to town, and the Mets’ season looks more lost than ever. Plus, Steve Cohen continues to tweet, and no one seems particularly happy about that.

    Chris’s Music Pick:

Amyl and the Sniffes - Comfort to Me

    Brian’s Music Pick:

    Colleen Green - Cool

From Complex To Queens, Episode 133: Closing Time Sep 14, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system.

Remember the Dreamcast? Remember how awesome it was at first but what a massive bust it was ultimately? The team takes a look at some Mets draft busts in Promote, Extend, Trade.

After, Steve, Lukas, and Thomas discuss how COVID-19 has impacted Binghamton over the last week or two and all of the roster moves that were made in response.

With a few weeks left for Syracuse and one week left in the minor league season for Binghamton, Brooklyn, and St. Lucie, the team takes a look at each affiliate and previews their upcoming series.

After, the team revisits the career of Jason Phillips in “Oh Yeah, That Guy!”

Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 77: Management Issues Galore Sep 09, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore.

While the Mets have had a relatively successful road trip thus far, the mismanagement of the team, both on and off the field, continues to be alarming. Whether it is the team's less than honest reporting of the Jacob deGrom injury, Luis Rojas's in-game management, or the continued mess that is the front office, it appears that the Mets need to clean house this off-season. Will they? That remains to be seen.

    Chris’s Music Pick:

    Meatbodies - 333

    Brian’s Music Pick:

    Pavement - Terror Twilight
