UnforMETable, Episode 77: John Candelaria Apr 26, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

Born in Brooklyn, John Candelaria was a key member of the successful Pittsburgh Pirates teams of the late 1970s, culminating in the team’s 1979 World Series victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

Candelaria eventually got traded to the Angels—coming within one game of facing his hometown team in the 1986 World Series. As the 1987 Mets were beset by injuries in their efforts to repeat as World Champions—including a key September injury to Ron Darling—the team brought in the veteran lefty in a last ditch effort to catch the Cardinals.

Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 91: Scooter, Etc. Apr 21, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore.

We sincerely miss Jacob deGrom and Taijuan Walker that we used to go see at Citi in the summer. The Mets are hoping for a re-arrival of some pitching health! The Citi seats are forrest green, for a hundred in twenties, an a small service fee. Just watching the Mets’ runs flying by. The starter's been pulled, and we really wanna see Diaz tonight.

[I promise that just the show post, and not the whole podcast, is Wilco-themed]

    Chris’s Music Pick:

    Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

    Brian’s Music Pick:

The Ramones - Subterranean Jungle Pleasant Dreams

A Pod of Their Own, Episode 121: When the Doc’s away... Apr 20, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.

This week, we begin by discussing the Mets’ thrilling victory earlier in the day led by Francisco Lindor and how well he has played so far this season. We remain concerned about the bullpen but the offense and starting pitching have been carrying the team.

Next, we talk about the new sensory nook the Mets installed in Citi Field in an effort to be more inclusive to fans.

Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.

You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, Spotify, or listen wherever you get podcasts.

UnforMETable, Episode 76: Randy Tate Apr 19, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

Randy Tate was a young left-handed starter in the Mets’ organization with a strong arm but a lack of control. Tate had one large and key supporter in the organization—manager Yogi Berra. Going into the 1975 season, Berra saw the 22 year old Tate as a perfect fit for the rotation behind his incredible top three of Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, and Jon Matlack.

Tate had the type of up-and-down season one might expect from a young hurler, perfectly encapsulated in one game on August 4, 1975, when Tate took a no-hitter into the eighth at Shea, only to lose it—and the game—in quick succession. The game seemed to mark the end of Berra’s reign as manager, as he was fired after the next day’s doubleheader sweep.

After, the guys review the Syracuse Mets, Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Brooklyn Cyclones, and St. Lucie Mets seasons so far.

A Pod of Their Own, Episode 120: Buck Butts Apr 13, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.

This week, we begin by discussing the Mets’ first five games of the season, over which they probably should have gone undefeated, but instead are 3-2 to start the 2022 season. We discuss the strong starting pitching the Mets have gotten, Walker and May’s injury concerns, and the cracks in the bullpen foundation.

Next, we talk about various odds and ends from around the league during the first week of the season: the Nationals’ and Astros’ City Connect jerseys, how the new CBA has clearly not curbed tanking, mic’d up umpires, and more.

Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.

    Show notes

Next, they give updates on their Way-Too-Early Draft Special players of interest and discuss Baseball America’s latest 2022 mock draft.

After, the guys review the Syracuse Mets. Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Brooklyn Cyclones, and St. Lucie Mets rosters and share how they think each individual affiliate will do now that we have official rosters and the season is underway.
