    Show notes

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore.

The Mets played less baseball than usual this past week, but managed to win a series with the Phillies, make a near unbelievable comeback, and continued to be, dare we say, good. We also discuss the emergence of Carlos Carrasco, the solid relief work the team has been getting, and complain about the baseball.

    Chris’s Music Pick:

The Nude Party - The Nude Party

    Brian’s Music Pick:

Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um

A Pod of Their Own, Episode 124: Chris Bassitt has lefty energy May 11, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.

This week, we begin by discussing the Mets, who are now 20-10. We talk about how sweet it is to have two historic moments—the combined no-hitter and the seven-run ninth inning comeback—against the Phillies.

We also talk about the Mets’ decision to release Robinson Canó, injury updates on Jacob deGrom and Trevor May, and Chris Bassitt expressing openness to an extension, which the Mets should absolutely do.

In our baseball segment this week, we discuss the 324-game suspension Major League Baseball handed down to Trevor Bauer, which he is appealing, and pray this is the last time we ever have to mention Bauer’s name on the podcast.

Maggie also shares her family’s experience with the new sensory nook at Citi Field and talks about improvements that could be made.

Finally, we shout out New Jersey-based artist and friend of the pod Elise Dodeles, who made a video about her painting project depicting women in baseball, supported by the Russell J. Efros Foundation. Her artwork is absolutely fantastic and you should check it all out on her website.

We wrap things up like we always do with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.

You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, Spotify, or listen wherever you get podcasts.

UnforMETable, Episode 79: Roberto Petagine May 10, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

Roberto Petagine was a solid prospect with an excellent batting eye who lacked the power traditionally required of first basemen. Petagine seemed to plateau in AAA, excelling there but struggling to break through on the major league level.

Petagine played well for Bobby Valentine at AAA Norfolk in 1996, earning himself some time in the majors once Valentine took over from the fired Dallas Green. However, the Mets’ offseason acquisition of John Olerud closed any windows to regular playing time for Petagine. Still, he would earn a late season call up in 1997, and play a crucial role in a memorable Mets comeback in a big September game.

    Show notes

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore.

The Mets had one of the most impactful weeks in a very, very long time. Between the combined no-hitter, the release of Robinson Cano, and a good 4-3 homestand, the Mets are a very interesting team to discuss at the moment. Brian and Chris review the past week and talk about Buck Showalter’s run as manager thus far.

    Chris’s Music Pick:

    Kikagaku Moyo - Masana Temples

    Brian’s Music Pick:

A Pod of Their Own, Episode 123: Baseballs, humidors, and normal forces with Dr. Meredith Wills May 04, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.

This week, we went live on the Amazin’ Avenue Facebook page with Dr. Meredith Wills to talk about the 2022 baseballs, which appear deader than ever.

We talk about the effect the humidor might be having on the ball and why it might be causing the inconsistency Chris Bassitt and others seem to be noticing with the balls this year.

We also discuss the differences between the Rawlings baseball used by MLB and the balls used during the Olympics, which players liked better.

Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.

UnforMETable, Episode 78: Chris Jelic May 03, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

A two-sport start at the University of Pittsburgh, Chris Jelic was drafted by the Kansas City Royals, who would trade him—and future star David Cone—to the Mets for catcher Ed Hearn prior to the 1987 season.

Jelic would toil in the minors for parts of six seasons before getting a brief call up to the Mets in September of 1990. At the tail end of a disappointing pennant race for New York, Jelic would record the only 11 professional at-bats of his career, and would make his only professional hit a memorable one—a home run in his final career at bat.

A Pod of Their Own, Episode 122: The Mets are Good?! Apr 27, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.

This week, we begin with a celebration of the Mets’ improbable comeback win against the Cardinals and the fact that the Mets very well may be a Good baseball team.

Next, we talk about the odd sequence of events that was the update on Jacob deGrom, which was very Metsy, but culminated in (mostly) good news.

We then discuss the tough choices the Mets will have to make with the roster come May 1 when rosters shrink from 28 to 26. We make the argument that Robinson Canó is not the answer for this team moving forward.

In a quick baseball segment this week, we talk about how the baseball is dead again; we will cover that in greater depth next week when we have Dr. Meredith Wills back on the show. We also provide a quick update on Trevor Bauer, who has now sued the woman who accused him of sexual assault.

Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.
