UnforMETable, Episode 94: Lenny Randle Sep 06, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the team past.

Once described by the MLB Network as baseball’s Forrest Gump, Lenny Randle did have an uncanny knack for appearing at randomly notable baseball moments—including two of the five contests to end in forfeit since 1971.

Randle was a seeming fixture with the Texas Rangers until the loss of his job—and an ensuing confrontation with his manager—led to his suspension and subsequent trade to the Mets in 1977. With New York, Randle would have a superlative season in a year that would be difficult for the franchise—and the city—as Randle would be standing at home plate when Shea Stadium—and NYC—were plunged into a famous blackout.

Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 110: A Week to Remember Sep 02, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore.

The Mets had a week to remember, winning five of their last seven games while increasing their division lead to 3 games over the Braves. That doesn’t even account for the first Old Timer’s Day in nearly 30 years, the retirement of Willie Mays’s #24, and the Timmy Trumpet experience. It was a good one, folks.

    Chris’s Music Pick:

PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea

    Brian’s Music Pick:

Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood

This week, we begin by discussing the current state of the Mets, as they sit three games up on the Atlanta Braves as they play a tough series with the Dodgers before the schedule gets much easier. But, this series with the Dodgers has featured some live Timmy Trumpet content, which we have greatly enjoyed.

Next, we talk about Old Timers’ Day and praise the organization for a fantastic event, especially the surprise retirement of Willie Mays’ No. 24.

Then, we discuss the historic first step taken by the MLB Players’ Association this week toward unionizing minor leaguers.

UnforMETable, Episode 93: John Stearns Aug 26, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the team past.

A two-sport star at Colorado University, John Stearns was selected in both the MLB and NFL drafts

An athletic catcher, Stearns would be a four time All Star for the perennially poor Mets squads of the late 70s and early 80s His 25 stolen bases in 1978 set a then-record for National League catchers

stearns was also an intense competitor who was involved in several on field altercations. His all out style led to injuries which shortened his playing career, but he remained in the game—-including a memorable coaching stint with the Mets
