Making Up For Lost Time Apr 04, 2017
    Show notes

It had been a while since we were able to record, so we spend the time catching up on some of the biggest topics we've missed including Drake's latest album release, Rick Ross coming to Lil Wayne's rescure, and of course Kendrick dropping Heart IV. I (Landon) also discuss why I've held up our ability to record for weeks. With that said, press play, subscribe, and leave all of your thoughts in the comment section!

Are Vets Bring the Game Back? Mar 21, 2017
    Show notes

It's been a while since we've been able to record (it's all my--Landon--fault). Thankfully, we had a few episodes recorded from a couple months ago that never got posted. In this one, we discuss how artists that have been around for quite some time seem to be putting the rap game on their backs. They even have Milan questioning whether hip hop is as dead as he typically says it is. But of course, we want you to be the judge. Listen and then comment with your thoughts. Press play and enjoy!

On another note, we want to acknowledge Rock 'N Roll legend Chuck Berry, who passed just a couple days before this was posted. Thank you for your contribution to music. No doubt your artistry and unique style has had an influence on hip hop. Rest peacefully.

    Empire & Hamilton Discussion Feb 16, 2017
    Show notes

As hip hop get pushed further into the mainsteam (if that's even possible) through shows like "Empire" and plays like "Hamilton," we discuss whether or not these things help or harm hip hop overall. So pull a chair up to the roundtable by pressing play, subscribing, and commenting with your thoughts on the topic.

Are We Ignoring the New Wave of Youthful Genius Jan 18, 2017
    Show notes

No, we have not gone completely crazy. We're not arguing that this new form of hip hop is genius or that it is even great. However, it is important for us critics to take a step back and make sure that we are not turning into the same generation that thought hip hop was the worst thing to happen to Black and Brown people since the Klan. So, we discuss all the reasons this is not the same, but also the few things (however small they might be) that this new generation of "rappers" is actually offering. In the great words of Ice Cube, it's time to "check yo self" and make verify if your critiques of these new artists is just that or if you've become the old person that's simply out of touch. Press play, but don't forget to rate, subscribe, and most important, share your thoughts!

Will There Be a Time When Hip Hop Doesn't Exist? Jan 10, 2017
    Show notes

Here is the first episode of 2017! And what better way to begin a new year than to talk about things potentially ending? (Only we would do this.) As you can tell by the title, we talk whether hip hop will be able to stand the test of time or eventually fizzle out. This is probably one of the most passionate debates we've had in a while. Click play and please be sure to leave your thoughts in the comment section!

    2016 Year In Review Dec 30, 2016
    Show notes

As 2016 comes to a close, we recap as much as we can from the year, discussing everything from our favorite album releases, favorite documentaries and tv shows, biggest moments and stories on TV, the losses we suffered, and more. We also give our take on 4 Your Eyez Only, list our top 5 albums of the year, and share what we're looking for in 2017. Listen, subscribe, but most impotantly, let us know your thoughts! Everybody have a great, safe, and happy new year. We'll check y'allin 2017!

The Ego in Hip Hop Dec 20, 2016
    Show notes

It's officially the holiday season. And with that, we finally get some episodes up! Recorded around the time of Kanye was in the hospital, we discuss the ripple effects of artists' [perceived] egos within hip hop and the thin line between ego and insanity. Be sure to rate, subscribe, and most importantly, comment. As with every episode, we want to hear your opinion. Other than that, merry Christmas and happy holidays from our podcast family to yours!

Hip Hop Politics Nov 07, 2016
    Show notes

Not to O.D. on Trump, given our last couple of episodes, but since it's Election Day tomorrow, it's kinda hard for him not to be a major part of our most recent topics. In this one we discuss how Trump was once almost exclusively associated with wealth to now being one of the most despised figures in hip hop. We also discuss whether or not hip hop artists have the responsibility to provide context and insight about any political statements they may make in their music. So, play this as we prepare to cast our ballots and please make sure to do 4 things (in this order): 1) subscribe to this podcast, 2) rate this podcast, 3) leave your thoughts/comments wherever you retrieved the podcast from, and 4) cast your vote tomorrow!

Hip Hop, Trump, and the Abuse of Our Women, Pt. 2 Nov 01, 2016
    Show notes

Following up from last week's episode (check it out here if you haven't already), as promised, we got our wives to come on and speak about these issues from a woman's perspective. As anticipated, they all brought great insight that we we would not have gotten otherwise. It's our turn to take a back seat and let the women's voices be heard. Hit us in the comments or on the Facebook page and let us know what you think.

HipHop, Trump, and the Abuse of Our Women Oct 25, 2016
    Show notes

Michel'le's "Surviving Compton" was just recently released, Nate Parker was caught in a media whirlwind as "Birth of a Nation" was being released, and Trump continues to ramble on about "locker room talk." What do all of these things have in common, the abuse and assault on women. We discuss how all of them interact and the role hip hop plays in this abuse. We also discuss how, even in the midst of it being about women, their voices typically go unheard. That said, this is only part one of this discussion, in order for us to do a part two and include the very voices we don't want to exclude. Rate, subscribe, and most importantly, comment! Give us your take on how you see all of this intersecting.
