Caleb Flynn's Answer to 'What Can I Do?' and the Kohberger Memo Sep 26, 2026
    Show notes

Eric Faddis and I take on two questions: did Caleb Flynn mean it, and did Bryan Kohberger understand what he signed? In the Flynn trial, Alleigha Botner testified that he told her he'd been up late thinking about ways to kill his wife, Ashley. She read the jury the text where she asked, "What can I do?" She said his final messages on February 15, 2026 ended with "tomorrow's a big day." Ashley was shot twice in the head hours later, and Flynn, who has pleaded not guilty, blamed an intruder. Botner admitted lying to the FBI and deleting messages. In Idaho, an unsealed memo shows Kohberger's defense wanted time and an expert to help communicate with him weeks before his July 2025 guilty plea. His new lawyer, Greg Rauch, is using it to try to remove the judge and withdraw the plea. Faddis gives his read on both.

Caleb Flynn's Ex Admits Sending Him THIS on Sunday Night Sep 25, 2026
    Show notes

Eric Faddis and I dig into what Alleigha Botner knew, and what she did, in the Caleb Flynn case. Flynn's former girlfriend told jurors that on the eve of Ashley Flynn's shooting, she was sending him material about his phone. Her fear, she said, was that a messy divorce would expose their texts and cost her her job. The next morning, she testified, she messaged Flynn asking if he was involved in Ashley's death, got no reply, and erased her own message. She also conceded she wasn't honest with FBI agents in her first interview. Asked how she feels about Flynn, she told the jury she hates him and thinks he killed his wife. Flynn denies the aggravated murder charge. Faddis explains how a jury sorts a woman who was lied to from a witness protecting herself.

Caleb Flynn Signed Off the Night Before the Shooting With THIS Sep 25, 2026
    Show notes

Eric Faddis and I go through the final weekend before Ashley Flynn was killed, as Caleb Flynn's former girlfriend described it under oath. Alleigha Botner testified she cut Flynn off after he blew her last deadline on January 11, 2026. On February 14, she told him she had a date in March. Two days later, Ashley was dead. Botner said that Sunday night Flynn told her he'd protect her "at all costs" and called February 16 "a day I'll never forget." She told the jury she asked for that protection because she didn't want to lose her job. Flynn, who is charged with aggravated murder, has pleaded not guilty and told police an intruder shot his wife. Faddis explains whether a jury can call that weekend a motive, and what the defense does with a witness who says all she heard was divorce.

Caleb Flynn's Girlfriend Says He Was Up Late Thinking About THIS Sep 25, 2026
    Show notes

Eric Faddis has prosecuted and defended cases built on a defendant's own words, and I asked him about the Caleb Flynn murder trial. Alleigha Botner testified for the state that Flynn first talked about wanting his wife Ashley to die after the couple's August 2025 anniversary cruise. She said the talk kept coming, at least once a month, and that it got worse each time. First, by her account, he wanted Ashley gone. Then he said he'd kill her if he could stay out of jail. Then came one late night she described to the jury in detail. Ashley Flynn was shot twice in the head while she slept on February 16, 2026, and Flynn told police an intruder did it. He has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder. Faddis explains what jurors can actually do with a man's words, and how the defense turns Botner's own words against her.

A Psychotherapist on Caleb Flynn's Hidden Texts and Kohberger's Family Sep 25, 2026
    Show notes

Two cases. One psychotherapist. Three arguments the audience is already having.

Caleb Flynn is on trial in Miami County, Ohio, for allegedly shooting his wife Ashley while she slept. Prosecutors say he sent more than 100,000 messages to his mistress, some describing plans to kill Ashley. The defense says it was ugly talk to keep a girlfriend happy.

Bryan Kohberger confessed to killing four University of Idaho students, was sentenced to four consecutive life terms, and is now claiming the confession was forced. His family just released a public statement backing his innocence.

Psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott joins Tony to break down what's behind the mask in both cases. Part one covers the mistress's psychology. Part two examines the worship pastor persona and the ego behind it. Part three asks whether Kohberger's family is in denial, acting on their own, or being directed from a prison cell.

Flynn has pleaded not guilty. Kohberger's hearing is set for June 2027.

Why Bryan Kohberger's Family Chose This Moment to Speak Sep 24, 2026
    Show notes

Bryan Kohberger pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder in the Idaho student killings and is serving four consecutive life sentences. A year after his plea, he filed a handwritten petition claiming he was pressured into a false confession by his own attorneys.

His family just made a public move. In a statement to ABC News, the Kohbergers say they fully support his bid to withdraw the guilty plea. They want the case resolved through "a proper trial."

Psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott joins Tony to examine the timing and the psychology. Why go public now, when silence is safer? Is this genuine denial from parents who cannot reconcile their son with a quadruple murderer, or is Bryan manipulating the people who saved his life from the death penalty into serving his next campaign? And does that unwavering family support embolden a convicted killer's belief that he was wronged?

The first evidentiary hearing on Kohberger's petition is scheduled for June 2027.

What Caleb Flynn's Congregation Never Saw Behind the Worship Stage Sep 24, 2026
    Show notes

Every Sunday, Caleb Flynn stood in front of a congregation and led worship. He appeared on American Idol and talked about how much he loved his wife. He worked at Ashley's family company. The community saw exactly the man he wanted them to see.

Now prosecutors in Miami County, Ohio, allege that same man was sending his mistress texts about killing Ashley without going to jail, and ultimately shot her in the head while she slept. His defense attorney conceded the affair and told the jury: being a terrible husband doesn't make you a murderer.

Psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott joins Tony to examine the fierce loyalty congregations develop toward charismatic leaders and how it blinds them. What happens psychologically when an aspiring celebrity pivots to church leadership? And how does the collapse of a narcissist's public image affect his psychology as he sits on trial?

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and related charges.

How Caleb Flynn's Mistress Rationalized His Murder Texts Sep 24, 2026
    Show notes

Prosecutors allege Caleb Flynn sent more than 100,000 messages to his mistress in the year before his wife Ashley was found shot to death in their Tipp City, Ohio, home. Among those messages: texts where Flynn allegedly described trying to figure out how to kill Ashley without going to jail. At the same time, prosecutors say, he was sending Ashley warm, loving messages.

Psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott joins Tony to examine what happens in the mind of a woman who receives messages like that from a married lover. How does someone read detailed murder planning and rationalize it? Is the defense claim that Flynn was simply "appeasing" his mistress psychologically plausible? And what does a therapist see in the split between the man texting his wife love and the man texting his girlfriend about killing her?

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. His trial is underway in Miami County.

Caleb Flynn Murder Case Full FBI Behavioral Breakdown Sep 24, 2026
    Show notes

Tony Brueski and former FBI behavioral analyst Robin Dreeke deliver the most comprehensive analysis of the Caleb Flynn murder case in one extended episode, covering the 911 call, the affair, and the courtroom strategy from every behavioral angle.

The conversation opens with the recorded 911 call. At 2:30 a.m., Caleb Flynn told dispatch his wife Ashley had been shot. He claimed he was sleeping in another room and froze when he heard the gunshot. Robin walks through the tape second by second, identifying what he says are the behavioral markers of a caller who may have been performing a reaction rather than experiencing one -- the narrative structure, the premature suspect theory, and the language that reportedly distances the caller from the event.

The middle portion of the episode digs into the digital evidence that prosecutors say establishes motive. Over 100,000 texts to a mistress. One message reportedly stating he would kill Ashley in a heartbeat if he could avoid going to hell. Robin analyzes the psychology of the kill text, the personality profile revealed by the volume of secret communication, and the behavioral mechanics of compartmentalization that reportedly allowed Caleb to lead worship services and maintain a marriage while conducting an affair of this scale.

The episode closes with the trial. Robin and Tony break down the defense's decision to open with Proverbs and admit the affair, the prosecution's crime scene testimony about the towel over Ashley's head and the allegedly staged break-in, and the haunting detail that Caleb was found outside with his dogs instead of at his wife's side. Robin connects the behavioral threads across all three segments, examining whether the evidence from the call, the texts, and the scene allegedly tell a consistent story.

Caleb Flynn Found Outside With Dogs While Ashley Lay Dead Sep 23, 2026
    Show notes

When the first officer arrived at the Flynn home minutes after the 911 call, Caleb Flynn was not inside performing CPR. He was not on the phone begging someone for help. He was standing outside the house with his two dogs, reportedly waiting for police in the yard. That image -- a husband standing with his pets while his wife lay dead in the bedroom -- is one of the most damning behavioral details to emerge from the Caleb Flynn murder trial.

Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke spend this segment dissecting every piece of evidence from the courtroom proceedings. They start with the defense's opening statement, which began with a verse from Proverbs and an immediate admission that Caleb had an affair. Co-counsel Emily Smith reportedly looked the jury in the eye and told them a man can fail as a husband without being a murderer. Robin explains the psychological calculus behind that gamble -- why the defense chose to lead with the worst version of their client's character in hopes of inoculating the jury against the prosecution's motive evidence.

They turn to the crime scene testimony. A first responder testified that Ashley was found with a towel placed over her head. Robin explains why that detail is a known behavioral indicator of an intimate killing -- a murder committed by someone who allegedly had a personal connection to the victim and could not stand to look at what they had done.

The alleged staged break-in is examined next. The front door was unlocked. The damage was reportedly caused by multiple tools and did not match a genuine forced entry. Robin walks through the behavioral science of staging and why perpetrators almost always allegedly overcomplicate the evidence in ways that investigators can identify.

And then Robin returns to the dogs. He explains what it means when a suspect's first instinct in a reported crisis is to secure the family pets rather than stay with the victim.
