A strange gift arrives at the doorstep two years late. There is only your name, no shipping label, no evidence of origin. Just a date stamp and the words "This Song Will Self-Destruct" in ink on cardboard. Inside is a song: Here, Hear 16. You play it. We talk about it. Prompt by Adam Vass. Thanks for bringing it from the porch into your home.

Corey covers more ground than fits in a synopsis: a decade plus spent touring, working while writing, how rap is boundless, and the shortcomings of life in punk rock—from financial instability to its promise of inclusivity—and how to build a better version of it when all of this is over. Also discussed: writing for Adam’s prompt, and 16 gets two steps closer to the end in the midst of recording this episode.

Bigger Picture Aug 27, 2020

Brad balances contradiction in his song 16 conversation, explaining his strategy for building up a foundational structure while still following the guidelines of a writing prompt built on things falling apart. On the future, we talk the larger lessons of the project so far, how it’s changed our relationship to time, work, and when to say we’re done.

What we learn by engaging philosophically and emotionally with media, art’s role as a Rorschach test, lyric games, stoner metal, Yoko Ono. Adam covers considerable and truly fascinating ground in the process of explaining our second song prompt—64 words(?) falling apart en route to our 16th Here, Hear entry. Listen and discuss.

Adam's games work is available for download at worldchampgameco.itch.io and currently on Kickstarter at tinyurl.com/spacechamp. Crystal Healing, The referenced collection of La Dispute story games is at ladispute.itch.io and is currently pay-what-you-want. Jay Dragon's 101 Games for Survival is available at mariabumby.itch.io/101gamesforsurvival.

Correction: 101 Games for Survival is a collaborative project by Jay Dragon and Maria Mison, I'm not sure which one wrote the text read aloud on the show and credited to Jay.

New Patreon exclusive mini-episode next week before our final full Chad-prompt episode, with the premiere of Here, Hear "15," then we're on to the next prompt. Subscribe and rate on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast, or wherever else you get your podcasts.

(EDITORS NOTE: I said "death" in this episode where I should have said "murder" and when I said "marginalized communities" or anything similar what I mean are Black communities specifically, but also Indigenous communities, other communities of color, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, the intersections of them. Should've been clearer. Smash all systems reliant on subjugation and pain to thrive, make the world better for all people. Love to each of you)
