155 | Belt Basics: When to Wear One and Are They an Essential Accessory for Your Wardrobe? Jul 04, 2024
    Show notes

Happy Independence Day if you're listening from the USA! I pre-recorded this episode so I could spend the day at a 4th of July parade with my family in the morning and then hopefully taking a dip in our pool, because we are finally in our new home after many long months of (sometimes not so patiently) waiting! Wherever you are joining me in the world today, I hope your summer is off to a fabulous start and you're having fun getting dressed for all the BBQs, beach days, and activities keeping you busy.

That brings me to today's Q&A Thursday topic, which is going to be a bite-sized conversation about an accessory we've never talked about on the show before: BELTS! I'm going to tackle the subject of when to wear one, how to choose the right fabric and width for you, and answer our friend Kelsy's biggest question about what I would consider essential for your wardrobe. If you struggle with when and how to accessorize your outfits with belts, there are a few very clear and strategic pointers you will not want to miss in this episode!

154 | How to Hide Your Midsection While Still Looking Sexy and Cute Jul 01, 2024
    Show notes

One of my FAVORITE romantic comedies is Crazy, Stupid, Love. It's brilliant. It's funny. It's full of unexpected surprises. I highly recommend it. And in that movie, Steve Carell, who plays the main character, describes his wife as the perfect combination of sexy and cute. It's a superficial, but incredibly sweet compliment all at the same time. And I think it's a compliment many of us would love to receive from our significant other.

But sometimes, we have body insecurities that make it really difficult to actually feel that way. I don't know what area or areas you might be hung up on, hopefully none! But if you do have some physical features you'd rather not highlight when getting dressed, I have a hunch one of them might be your midsection. And if so, you're not alone. Surveys have shown that 4 in 5 women worry about the appearance of their belly and their waist.

Now friend, if you're struggling with negative self-talk or if this topic feels like it might be a trigger for you, I encourage you to pause right here and listen to HER Style Podcast episode 118 - Struggling with Negative Self-Talk? Make This One Simple Mindset Shift to Improve Your Body Image first. Please know that the last thing I would want is for you to feel any shame or judgment over your appearance. My goal, always, is to support you with being kinder to yourself and embracing your body where it is today, even if you have healthy and realistic goals you're working towards. I want you to find gratitude for the body you have right now and get dressed in ways that make you feel good today.

If you're in a healthy place with this conversation and you're ready to talk about some tactical ways to divert attention away from your tummy, while treating yourself with a whole lot of gentleness and grace in the process, then join me for today's episode where I'll break down some very simple ways to hide your midsection while still looking sexy and cute.

Question for you… Are you struggling with your workwear? Dress codes have gotten more lax, athleisure is often allowed, and we have more options than ever before. Yet we often find ourselves defaulting to the same go-to outfit uniform or with the challenge of aligning our professional attire with our style preferences.

So in today's episode, I'm on a mission to help you get dressed for work in a way that feels like you. Let's explore how you can be more authentic in your on-the-job appearance so it's just as much fun to get dressed for work as it is for play!

151 | Is Your Style Too Showy? How to Look Polished Without Making Others Feel Less Than Jun 20, 2024
    Show notes

Are you scratching your head right now? In the previous episode of HER Style Podcast, I challenged you to be bold and gave you 8 ways to make your outfits more creative, and now, I'm telling you to tone it down. So what gives, right?

Well, I've been hearing from a number of listeners lately, including our friend Rachel who submitted today's Q&A Thursday question, that while they love elevated looks and they want to show up looking polished and put together, they have a big fear bubbling up under the surface. They're afraid of being judged for flaunting their taste in fashion and/or making their friends feel less than.

We've entered a new era of casual basics, laid-back looks, and work-from-home wardrobes, and we don't always have a need to dress up like we used to. In a world where so many are showing up with such little effort, do we need to consider whether our closets are legitimately too showy?

It's time to address this elephant and talk about what to do when you're the most style-conscious person in the room.

149 | Advice From Menswear Specialist David Elliott on How to Style Your Husband Jun 13, 2024
    Show notes

Let me start out by saying, I know my strengths and I know my weaknesses. Aside from a brief stint in personal shopping at J.Crew many years ago, where I helped style the occasional man who wandered in looking for assistance, menswear is not my area of expertise.

So when I received a question from our friend, Ann, recently about how to style her husband, I knew I needed to enlist some outside support. Enter: David Elliott, a content creator with a passion for helping men elevate their life through fashion, fitness, and lifestyle. Although he's a self-proclaimed "normal guy", he's built up a very impressive social media following in the last year and a half —if you check out his content, you'll see why!— and I'm thrilled that he agreed to join me on HER Style Podcast to share all of his style expertise!

Whether you're currently dating or happily married, you're going to want to hear David's advice around getting your partner to care more about his style, best tips to start leveling up his wardrobe, his helpful take on coordinating outfits as a couple, and enjoying your style journeys together. Grab your guy for this one and turn up the volume as we welcome David onto the show!

148 | Stop Wasting Time in the Morning and Get Ready Faster with Preset Outfits Jun 10, 2024
    Show notes

I put out a request to my VIP email community a couple of weeks ago for their help with some market research. I always want to know what you're struggling with the most and how I can best support you on your style journey. And the results of that project were pretty eye-opening.

I heard complaint after complaint that they were wasting way too much time trying to get dressed in the morning and, more often than not, they just end up defaulting to their go-to-outfit uniform. Can you relate?

So what if I told you there is a very simple solution to both of these challenges and it would take you an hour (or less) to start implementing it?

Allow me to introduce the concept of preset outfits! No, I'm not talking about done-for-you, outfit of the day guides you can buy from other stylists. And I'm not talking about the productivity hack of picking out your clothes the night before. I'm talking about building your own custom outfit library of looks that will make it easy and exciting to get dressed for every occasion on your calendar!

I've mentioned this concept on the podcast before, but today, we're taking a deep-dive into why preset outfits are the BEST way to ensure you can get ready efficiently and feel good as you go about your day! Let's make your life a whole lot easier, shall we?

I can't wait for you to hear today's episode! I received a question from our friend, Alyson, recently about whether going gray will impact the clothing colors that suit her. I hear variations of this question all the time, so I knew we had to address this on the podcast sooner rather than later!

Because significant changes to your hair color will most likely impact your best colors!

146 | Confused by Your Personal Color Palette? What to Do When Specialists Label You as a Different Season Every Time Jun 03, 2024
    Show notes

Are you feeling confused by your personal color palette? This is a problem I hear about far too often. There are quite a few reasons this can happen, which I've already spoken about at length in episode #3 of HER Style Podcast, Why Your Color Season Doesn't Matter and What You Want To Know Instead. But it's not an issue I see going away anytime soon.

Personal color palettes are trending big time and franchises like House of Colour are dominating the industry. I love that women are wanting to learn about their best colors, but what do we do when the services meant to empower us end up leaving us more confused than we were before? I hear from women all the time who have had 2 and 3 color analyses done and been assigned a different seasonal type each time. Others feel pushed into wearing bold colors that don't resonate with their neutral preferences.

So what should you do? In today's episode, I'm sharing exactly how to navigate your personal color palette, or more specifically, differences between your color palettes, so you can wear your best colors with clarity and confidence. If you've invested in a seasonal color analysis and ended up more confused than before, this episode is for you, my friend. Let's do this!
