    Show notes

Jesus flips a familiar servant story by revealing a master who comes home and serves his own people at the table. We connect that surprise to Paul’s message of reconciliation through the Cross and to Saint Paul of the Cross, who calls us to let the crucifix astonish us again.
•the Gospel image of staying awake for the master’s return
•the shocking reversal of the master serving the servants
•Christian faith as God’s action first, not our achievement
•Ephesians on being brought near by the blood of Christ
•the Church as a family made through Jesus’ death and resurrection
•Saint Paul of the Cross and the Passionist focus on the Crucifixion
•why the Cross is the clearest proof of God’s love
•the Mass and Eucharist as Christ still serving us
So today when you look at the crucifix take just a moment remember the message Saint Paul of the cross spent his entire life preaching you do not have to wonder how much God loves you. He's already shown you and the cross is the proof of that

    Homily | October 19 2026 | Bigger Barns, Smaller Soul (Episode 313) Oct 19, 2026
    Show notes

We notice the tiny detail in Jesus’ parable that changes everything: the rich man’s success isn’t the problem, his self-absorption is. We connect that warning to St Paul’s teaching on grace and to the lives of martyrs who show what real security looks like in Christ.
    • the rich fool’s plan for bigger barns and a comfortable retirement
    • why wealth is not condemned but worshiping wealth is
    • the repeated “I” that reveals a life without gratitude, God, or neighbor
    • “What am I actually living for?” as the defining question
    • grace as God’s free gift, not something we can earn or buy
    • Brébeuf and Jogues as a lived contrast to hoarding and self-protection
    • measuring a life by love, generosity, and fidelity rather than success

    Homily | Español | October 18 2026 | Render To God (Episode 312) Oct 18, 2026
    Show notes

We wrestle with the temptation to separate our “personal” faith from everyday behavior, then we let Jesus’ words about Caesar and God expose what real integrity looks like. We walk away with a practical challenge to surrender the parts of life we keep guarded and a reminder that we’re called by name and never overlooked.
    • imagining the disconnect between religious talk and unjust daily choices
    • unpacking why taxes in Jesus’ time created a crisis of conscience
    • hearing Jesus’ wisdom and refusing the trap
    • balancing civic responsibility with spiritual responsibility
    • recognizing we bear God’s image and belong to him fully
    • naming what we keep from God: anger, pride, ego, selfishness
    • choosing one concrete change that proves our hearts are God’s
This week, choose one aspect of your life you have kept out of God’s reach, then make one concrete change that reflects you belong to God.

    Homily | October 18 2026 | Lord, Begin With Me (Episode 311) Oct 18, 2026
    Show notes

We confront how easy it is to see everyone else’s faults while missing our own, and we let Jesus’ question about Caesar’s coin turn into a question about our hearts. We explore what it means to bear God’s image and why real faith shows up as repentance, humility, and changed relationships at home.
    • our habit of examining everyone else’s conscience while neglecting our own
    • why the tax question is a trap and how Jesus refuses it
    • the irony of producing Caesar’s coin while questioning Jesus’ faithfulness
    • “Repay to Caesar” as a deeper claim about God’s ownership of our lives
    • pride, humility, and why “please forgive me” can be the hardest words
    • God calling Cyrus by name as proof God works beyond our expectations
    • Saint Paul’s measure of faith as visible fruit over time
    • a concrete weekly practice: asking God what he wants to change in us
    • confession, mercy, and praying “Lord, begin with me”

    Homily | October 17, 2026 | Faith Worth Dying For (Episode 310) Oct 17, 2026
    Show notes

We step back into the first generations of Christianity through Saint Ignatius of Antioch, a bishop arrested for his faith who writes on the road to martyrdom. His letters challenge our modern comfort by showing that faith is worth living for and, at times, worth dying for.
    • the early Church as young, fragile, and costly to join
    • Ignatius as bishop of Antioch and a witness close to the apostles
    • seven surviving letters as a direct line to early Christian belief
    • unity in the Church through bishops, priests, and deacons
    • the Eucharist described as the flesh of Jesus Christ and early evidence for the real presence
    • martyrdom understood as an offering shaped by Eucharistic imagery
    • practical ways we compromise and what daily faithfulness looks like
    • holiness as the work of God’s grace in ordinary life
When we study the saints, we should always ask ourselves three questions: Why did this saint believe? What did the saint believe? How did that belief change the way that his saint lived? And what must change in my life if I truly believe the same thing?

    Show notes

We trace the real story behind the Sacred Heart of Jesus and why Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque becomes such an important voice of mercy in a fearful age. We connect the symbols in the image to sin, suffering, and divine love, then bring it home for anyone who feels unworthy of God.
    • the Sacred Heart image as a visual Gospel of love and mercy
    • Saint Margaret Mary’s life and the reported revelations of Christ’s Heart
    • Jansenism and how fear kept people from God and Holy Communion
    • why Christians honor the Heart of Jesus as a symbol of real human love
    • First Friday devotion, the Holy Hour, and the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart
    • Saint Paul’s message that we belong to God by grace, not achievement
    • the invitation to return to Christ when guilt and repeated sin tempt us to hide
Sacred Heart of Jesus, make my heart like yours.

Homily | October 15, 2026 | Saint Teresa Of Avila And The Simple Path Of Mental Prayer (Episode 308) Oct 15, 2026
    Show notes

We celebrate Saint Teresa of Avila by telling the truth about prayer: it often feels hard, and that does not mean you are failing. We lean on Teresa’s wisdom to show that holiness starts with God’s desire for us and grows through faithful friendship with Jesus.
    • Saint Teresa of Avila’s life as a Carmelite, reformer, mystic, and Doctor of the Church
    • what “Doctor of the Church” means and why her teaching is trusted
    • distraction, dryness, and inconsistency in prayer as a normal struggle
    • mental prayer as friendship with the God who loves us
    • why faithfulness matters more than spiritual feelings
    • The Interior Castle image of the soul and the journey inward toward God
    • the danger of living “outside the castle” in constant noise and worry
    • how real prayer makes us more loving, brave, and ready to serve
Find ten minutes, put away the phone, turn off the noise, sit quietly before the Lord, perhaps in a church, before the Blessed Sacrament in a quiet room in your house, and simply speak to Jesus as you would speak to someone who loves you deeply.

Homily | October 14, 2026 | From Rules To Love Guided By The Spirit (Episode 307) Oct 14, 2026
    Show notes

Christ sets us free, but that freedom has a purpose: letting the Holy Spirit change what we love and how we live. We contrast fear-based rule keeping with Spirit-led transformation that becomes visible in everyday relationships.
    • Christian freedom as responsibility, not permission
    • Guided by the Spirit rather than constrained by fear
    • “Flesh” as fallen desire that resists God, not the human body
    • Relational sins that poison families, friendships, workplaces, and parish life
    • Why religious activity without inner conversion signals a deeper problem
    • Works we do versus fruit that grows through prayer, sacraments, and grace
    • The fruit of the Spirit as the real test of maturity in daily life
    • Crucifying passions by refusing anger, releasing resentment, and breaking habits
    • A practical examen: which fruit is missing and how to ask the Spirit for growth
Go back and read Paul's list of fruits of the Spirit, and then ask yourself, which of these fruits is missing in my life?

    Homily | October 13, 2026 | Freedom In Christ (Episode 306) Oct 13, 2026
    Show notes

We challenge the subtle habit of treating God like a judge who loves us only after we perform well enough. We lean on St. Paul’s message in Galatians to show how grace comes first and how living faith becomes visible through love.
    • the hidden mistake of trying to earn God’s love through prayer, Mass attendance, good works, and sin avoidance
    • why St. Paul draws a hard line on circumcision and the Mosaic Law for Gentile converts
    • how the law can reveal what’s right but cannot heal the heart without saving grace in Jesus Christ
    • what Paul means by “fallen from grace” as a warning against self-justification
    • the danger of transactional Christianity and the frustration it creates when life hurts
    • “faith working through love” as the heart of Catholic salvation and real transformation
    • freedom in Christ as liberation from sin, fear, and the burden of saving ourselves
So here’s a question I want to start this week with. Are you living your faith as someone who has been loved or someone who is still trying to earn that love?
