What is Methylation and Treating the Root Cause of Disease with Dr. Benjamin Lynch Nov 21, 2017
    Show notes

In today's podcast, we have Methylation process expert Benjamin Lynch who is a naturopathic doctor. He received his Cell and Molecular Biology, BS from the University of Washington and his ND from Bastyr University. His passion for identifying the cause of disease directed him towards nutrigenomics and methylation dysfunction. Currently, he researches, writes and presents worldwide on the topic of MTHFR and methylation defects. He is the author of Dirty Genes. You may learn more about Dr. Lynch and his work at www.drbenlynch.com. Dr Lynch is also the President & Founder of www.SeekingHealth.com, a company oriented towards disease prevention and health promotion. He lives in Seattle, WA with his wife, Nadia, and three boys, Tasman, Mathew and Theodor. Here are insights and questions answered: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2:06 1. Why did you start getting into methylation and MDFHR? - “I don’t like my patients not getting better” - Newborns have over 200 chemicals in their system through the umbilical cord blood - Children are living through chronic disease, even before birth - To see how to reduce exposure and why we’re getting sicker - You can’t understand a patient without diving deeper and understanding their unique genetics 3:25 2. What is Methylation and why is it a problem? - It is an action — “ation” ; methel is what it acts on - Methel is the simplest compound. It’s carbon and 3 hydrogens. 1. It turns on and off our genes - We don’t want our genes on all the time - Turning on wrong ones can lead to cancer - Our genes have to communicate properly 2. It transforms genes to others - It bounces off one thing to another. When it bounces to one thing, it changes its function. - For example, seratonin. Methylation will change seratonin to melatonin. - It creates many different chemical reactions. - When it isn’t working, you are not working. You have risks of having different symptoms. 5:47 3. Would you argue that that’s why we have an explosion of epidemic of chronic illness? - We have an explosion of chronic illness because of the methylation pathway in our system is doing too much. - Our bodies are always trying to support us — all the time. - We don’t have symtomps because our bodies are trying to kill us. We have symptoms because our genes aren’t working how we want them to work. - If we’re exposed to heavy metals, chemicals, the methylation pathways are being overworked - You have to put less work and demand on your genes and you will feel better 7:22 4. What have we changed in the last few decades that we’re overworking? What are the other things that can decrease overworking? - The amount of chemicals in our environment have exploded - Part of those are heavy metals - They are prevasive. They are in our food, air and products we touch even on a daily basis - Technology is also polluting us. - 10% of drinking water in US is high in arsenic levels - We eat chicken which is high in arsenic - Arsenic is processed in the body via methylation - If methylation isn’t working, you will have high arsenic levels which can lead to cancer - We have plastics, sprays, insecticides, herbicides. - The more toxins we have in the body, the more work for genes and more vitamins and minerals they need For rest of the insights and takeaways from the show, click this link! >> https://www.healerpedia.com/podcasts/what-is-methylation-and-treating-the-root-cause-of-disease-with-dr-benjamin-lynch-574

Listen and learn how to journey back to health through cellular healing and detox. Key questions and insights: --------------------------------------------------------- 02:04 1. How did you get to where you are today? Tell us about your toxicity issues and how you healed yourself? - Dr. Pompa's story of toxicity and healing - "I didn't choose it, it chose me"- "I'm healthier today than ever before 04:30 2. Can auto-immune diseases be reversed based on your two decades of practice? - Yes! The key is to figure out what the actual triggers of your disease are - Remove the interferences and the body will heal 05:34 3. What's interfering with our body? What is giving me this auto-immune disorder? - The body doesn't know the difference between the physical, chemical and emotional stressors. - We've been exposed to the chemicals that disrupt our brains and nerve systems such as Heavy metals: Mercury, Aluminum, Lead. - List of other stressors to our body and mind 06:40 4. Where are these chemicals coming from? Triggers: 1. Mercury - The no. 1 adult exposure are amalgam fillings. It goes from mother to baby in utero. - The Drash study: The number of fillings in your mouth is proportional to how much mercury you find in the baby's brain on autopsy 2. Lead - The no. 1 source of lead is the mother as well- It's the massive exposure that we get, and it starts with the womb 3. Mold - Comes from water damage, the way we're building modern buildings, high humidity 4. Glyphosate - Glyphosate is a new problem, a chemical being sprayed in our food supply. It is sprayed in round up, on everything we're eating. - Glyphosate is allowing heavy metals to cross deeper into the brain. - Our children are being exposed to this chemical creating an epidemic of dementia, Alzheimer's, fatigue, etc. 10:25 5. How do we test for it? Is there a series of tests that can be done? - For heavy metals, there's no perfect test because we have to really look in the brain The visual contrast sensitivity test - $10 - www.VCStest.com - Looks at contrast ability which looks at neurotoxins in the brain 12:45 6. What test do you recommend for parasites? - Doctor's data, Genova labs, Metametrix, etc. Viome: - $98 - Microbiome test 13:53 7. Is there a test for mold? The visual contrast test C4 test - Blood test - looks at immune reaction Urine test - last resort - more expensive - looks at microbiome in urine 14:44 8. How useful is the Comprehensive Wellness Profile in identifying what the triggers for chronic illness might be? 3 Legged Stool: 1. Genes - Very few disease are genetic - Most epigenetic issues are switched on by stressors - We can turn off those genes 2. Stressors - We have to turn off these stressors - Remove the stressors to remove the gene 3. Microbiome - The microbiome makes us human - We're more bacteria than cells - The microbiome has to be restored to turn off bad bacteria and turn on good ones For rest of the insights and takeaways from the show, click this link! >> https://www.healerpedia.com/podcasts/best-ways-to-detox-your-way-to-health-with-dr-pompa-560

Natural Remedies for Hot Flashes and Other Menopause Symptoms with Dr. Zach Bush Nov 07, 2017
    Show notes

In this podcast we have expert Dr. Zach Bush to talk about Menopause. Dr. Zach Bush is one of the few triple board-certified physicians in the country, with expertise in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Hospice/Palliative care. The breakthrough science that Dr Bush and his colleagues have delivered offers profound new insights into human health and longevity. To Learn how to have a symptom free menopause by listening to this podcast! Here are the Key Questions answered and highlights: ------------------------------------------------------- 01:36 1. What is going on with the female body during menopause? - Estrogen and Progesterone are only 2 of the 2000 hormones we know that are affecting your day to day life - If you're having sleep problems, hot flashes, decreased muscle mass, all of these are related to a estrogen and progesterone shift - There are a vast number of hormones involved - It's not necessary to have symptoms with menopause - The environment we live in are full of chemicals and toxins that are making us prone to an inflammatory baseline - If you have a low inflammation in the body, you are less likely to have symptoms through the transition 03:47 2. What's causing this inflammation that's forcing us to these symptoms? - It all comes down to what you do in your day - We now have chemicals integrated into the food chain - We're putting 4.5 Billion pounds of Glyphosate, a water soluble content, into our environment - Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Round Up used for farming - A large percentage of our wheat crop is sprayed with Glyphosate - The food we're consuming have toxins - In the case of a chronic inflammatory, we are exposing our immune system everday to an overwhelming amount of the outside world. - The immune system is designed to keep us out of the outside world - The gut lining starts from the nasal sinuses where you breath in and out - If you start consuming chemicals like Glyphosate, you overwhelm your immune system to the outside world which causes inflammation - If there's much constant injuries or much to attack, the immune system will start to run out of its coping mechanism and so every injury will produce this inflammatory cascade 07:55 3. Is that why we're starting to see something called perimenopause? Effects of Menopause: - Anxiety - Hot Flashes - Fractured Sleep - Major Depressive Episodes - Loss of Muscle Mass - Difficulty in Weight Loss - Brain Fog - All of these are symtoms of a hormonal shift in the body 08:35 4. Over 70% of women in menopause or perimenopause will experience hot flashes. Do you believe we should address it symptom by symptom? or Do you believe it's all about getting the body back into balance? - Estrogen and progesterone tie into the Hot Flash phenomenon - Estrogen is a pro-inflammatory, pro-growth anabolic compound - Progesterone is the opposite, which is an amino suppresant that modulates the immune system so that you don't get it out of control - Progesterone deficiency is one of the leading cause of infertility - When progesterone decreases, too much estrogen will result to hot flashes and rest of symptoms - The last thing you would want on an inflamed cell is a growth factor - It would take 4 pounds of greens to create 48 ounces of juice - Juicing, when overdone, can be a vulnerable point where you can get an enormous amount of toxin - The only reason why you need progesterone is because you have a chronic inflammation - You need to look at a major lifestyle prevention to reduce an inflammatory state For rest of the insights and takeaways from the show, click this link! >> https://www.healerpedia.com/podcasts/menopause-symptoms-and-remedies-with-dr-zach-bush-551

How to Reduce Inflammation Fast with Dr. Sunil Pai Oct 22, 2017
    Show notes

Struggling with chronic or auto-immune health issues? They are triggered by inflammation which can be reduced with simple diet and lifestyle changes according to Dr. Sunil Pai. In this podcast he shares his insights from his best seller book- An Inflammation Nation: The Definitive 10-step Guide to Preventing, Treating and Reversing All Diseases Through Diet, Lifestyle and the Use of Natural Anti-Inflammatories. He is internationally recognized expert in Integrative Medicine, a health activist/influencer and thought leader in the wellness industry. Dr. Pai is also the founder of House of Sanjevani Integrative Medicine Health & Lifestyle Center located in Albuquerque. Key Questions answered and highlights: -------------------------------------------------------- 01:56 1. What inspired you to write a book about inflammation? - There is a connection between Inflammation and Chronic Disease 02:39 2. Is inflammation the root cause of all disease? - It's a triggering mechanism to make disease worse - It triggers an inflammatory response - The root word Flam means Fire. In simpler terms, it is the "itis" at the end of your issue that indicates its inflammation. For example for someone who has red eyes due to allergy, we call it conjunctivitis. Arthritis is another example. -Look at the underlying triggering mechanism of your inflammation - Once you stop conventional medicine, patients will have their symptoms flaring again. 04:32 3. What is inflammation? - Inflammation is a set of biological, cellular and immunological responses that are not always bad. - There are hundreds of inflammatory response. - The inflammation is controlled by your immune system. - Your immune system is your military, airforce, marines of your body. They fight, fix and repair. - The goal is not to have too much inflammation and you don't want to have any inflammation. You have to have some. - Now, people are in a chronic state due to their diet, lifestyle and environment. - One of the misconceptions we have with the conventional approach is that we usually take medications that makes the patient's inflammation go to zero. - Although their symptoms will go down, it puts them at higher risk with cancer and other chronic disease. - You can't have none! Otherwise you will have infections. The key is to find what are those triggers in your diet, lifestyle and environment, which is covered in An Inflammation Nation For rest of the insights and takeaways from the show, click this link! >> https://www.healerpedia.com/podcasts/a-plant-based-diet-to-reverse-chronic-disease-with-dr-sunil-pai-536

Fast Food Genocide with Dr. Joel Fuhrman Oct 13, 2017
    Show notes

Did you know that eating fast food regularly has a 7 times higher risk of stroke before 45 years? Dr. Joel Fuhrman, an Ivy League educated MD and an international speaker on nutrition has an important new book out Fast Food genocide which highlights how we are slowly killing ourselves and our children. He does a great job of revealing how unhealthy food is also marginalizing our most vulnerable populations. It causes diseases like heart attacks, strokes, cancer, obesity and more. He offers an inspiring message of natural healing. That we have the power to change our health and that its very easy to implement: just change what you put in your mouth! Here are key questions he answers and highlights from his answers: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 03:11 1. What is fast food? - All processed foods - Food with flour, sugar and oil like candy, soda, donuts, cookies - Food that can be consumed fast - These foods contain calories that are densed and are absorbed rapidly in the bloodstream which signals brain stimulation that is addicting - These food contain synthetic ingredients and chemicals which make them further damaging to the body - They don't contain significant amount of micronutrients - Most processed food and junk food lowers intelligence - The major source of calories the americans consume right now are in the category of fast food - It also damages our genes resulting to children with lower intelligence, to immune conditions, autism, violence, obesity, diabetes and cancer. Facts that most people don't know about: - The consumption between donuts, cupcakes and candies for the age of 10 shows a greater relation with adult crime and illegal drug use than any other parameter including lack of parenting or poverty. - Majority of the people in federal prisons are there for nonviolent drug related offenses. - We flood our criminal system with people who are using drugs and this starts with the addiction they get to sugar and other fast food and processed food which destroys brain cells and gives you an abnormal brain that's seeking stimulation later on in life. - These foods increase violence, aggression, lack of concentration and inability to make logical decisions. 08:08 2. Who did you write Fast Food Genocide for? - This is a book for everyone to read because people don't know the implications of what they're putting in their mouth. - Studies show that people who eat fast food 2x a week, just 2 servings of white flour, sugar, oil, commercial baked goods a week doubles the risk of depression. - We underestimate the effects of poor food and poor nutrition on mental illness - This will allow us to make better decisions in the future, to work together on equality, wellness for all people and to solve healthcare for the people 15:39 3. How do you switch from a life of convenience to a life of healthy meals? - Lots of frozen meals are junk food but if you simply freeze vegetables and fruits, they still contain over 90% of their original nutrient content. - The most important thing that's proven to extend human life and extend healthy life expectancy is eating a diet rich in micronutrients. - Micronutrients do not contain calories. These contain vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals antioxidants. Many of these are destroyed with heat. - It's not just the pesticide residue that is cause of major source of disease, but lack of nutrients. - It is recommended to have a mild caloric restriction (not overeating calories) - A high micronutrient environment includes over a pound of vegetables/fruits a day - What makes fast food dangerous is that its grilled, fried in high flame, and reheating oil increases rancidity. Have you found the magic pill to spontaneous weight loss? - If you are healthier, your weight normalizes spontaneously. 02:16 2. Are you saying that everyone who's obese is actually unhealthy? - When we look at ayurvedic medicine, it's important to know your body type. - 3 Body Types (Dosha): Vata, Pitta, Kapha - We can't say one is overweight by simply looking, we have to know their Body Type. - Most people are overweight because of toxicity. Even with no diagnosed illness, their bodies are not experiencing absolute prime. 03:16 3. What inspired you to write this book? - "The book chose me as a voice" and I had to share the insights from my patients losing weight. 06:50 4. How can some people eat without gaining weight while others struggle despite minimal food intake? Where is the problem? - The answer all goes to biochemistry, which comes from the gut and involves the microbiome, the set of bacteria that lives in the GI drive. - The microbiome in the body has significant effects on the brain, decisions, behavior, personality and what you eat. 10:33 5. What is it that we're doing to our body that creates weight gain? - AMA: Can refer to toxic inflamation, physical and mental level, and amount of toxicity we're producing in our body. - Because of the accumulation of ama, it becomes difficult to maintain a healthy weight. 11:57 6. Where are these toxins (Ama) coming from? - We're eating food that is depleted of nutrients. - Since we slowly substituted foods coming from the earth, we also slowly changed the type of bacteria that's inside of us. - We're eating very sick animals. - We created a 100,000 new chemical constituents which were tested to be 1% safe for human beings and particularly unsafe for women. Many mimic or stimulate estrogen in our bodies, which promotes disease. - We're eating and living in an environement filled with chemicals and have an unhealthy lifestyle. 16:40 7. Tell us how we can change our lifestyle. - You are in a biochemical prison. - Begin to shift your biochemistry step by step, then you will begin to automatically make changes in the way you live. 18:54 8. Tell us what are those little changes we can make for spontaneous weight loss. - 4 step process in The Prime. - Take a gut IQ test. The smarter your gut, the faster you can go. - A dumb gut is a leaky gut, where the food your eating is going into the blood stream. It has damaged the brain located in the gut. It has lost communication to the brain in your head. The microbiome also changes from beneficial to parasitic. 4 step process to stop cravings and regenerate: 1st stage - Start with an herb called Triphala, which clears out colon toxins. -The Prime Tea. - Pulls out toxins in the body. Lights up the fire in your belly (Agni) 2nd stage - Go with herbs that help you reverse neuroadaptation, which makes the brain in your head and gut get addicted to certain food. 3rd stage - Introduce things that will help to pull out deeply rooted toxins in the organs. 4th stage - Introduce new habits to support new biochemistry.
