4. Colin O'Brady: Adventurer and First Man to Walk Across Antarctica Oct 13, 2020

Show notes

What’s the likelihood of someone being born on a futon in a commune going on to walk across Antarctica (and live to tell about it)?

Like… a gazillion to one.

Well, Erik Huberman had the pleasure of talking to the one and only Colin O’Brady. The 35-year-old has already accomplished more than most of us even dream about doing: summiting Mt. Everest, winning a triathlon, writing a New York Times bestseller (The Impossible First).

In this episode, Colin and Erik chat about…

The importance of having a supportive figure in your life
How to take the first step towards a big goal
Why it’s important for kids to see exciting, real-life applications of STEM methods
Why you should be asking, “Why not me?”

3. Brandon Webb: Navy SEAL Turned Entrepreneur Oct 13, 2020

Show notes

“Unlikely story” is an understatement. Raised all over the world by two flower children practically right out of Woodstock, Brandon Webb’s life is an unreal flip of events.

As the founder of SOFREP and Tiger Gummies, the author of numerous books including The Red Circle and Among Heroes, and an aerobatics pilot (phew!), this Navy SEAL has lived more life than all of our grandparents put together.

HawkeTalk co-host Erik Huberman chats with Brandon about…

Brandon’s childhood, sailing across the world and gaining a knack for entrepreneurship from his grandmother
How mental toughness and positive reinforcement got Brandon to where he wanted to be in the Navy SEALs
How Brandon found opportunities to reinvent himself even in a recession (and you can, too!)

Check out Crate Club, another business Brandon helped found.

2. Shawne Merriman: NFL First-Round Draft Pick Oct 13, 2020

Show notes

Growing up in Prince George's County, Washington, DC, in the nineties was pretty rough.

The stats are pretty shocking. And that is where Shawne Merriman’s story starts.

An upbringing that bred aggression led Shawn to football after basketball wound up being too tame. (Foul out much?)

“My coaches asked me, “Hey, what position do you want to play?”

I said, “Coach, it doesn't matter. I just want to hit somebody.”

And they smiled from ear to ear.”

“I believe that talent stuff can get you to the top, but the hard work is what keeps you there.” -Shawne “Lights Out” Merriman

HawkeTalk co-host Erik Huberman chats with Shawne about…

What gets a kid from Prince George's County to the NFL as a first-round draft pick
Rookie of the year, a couple of pro bowls, and a stellar NFL career
How he earned the nickname “Lights Out”
