    Work-Life Balance (New Research Study)

    Summary:

A study of 184 people across three countries/regions found that fulfilling one's values can lead to higher well-being, and that higher well-being can make it easier to fulfill one's values. This relationship was consistent regardless of the importance people attributed to their values, the period of the week, or their prestudy well-being.

    Conclusion:

This research helps to explain the fundamental connection between values and well-being. It also has potential implications for clinical practice, suggesting that helping people to fulfill their values may be a way to improve their well-being.

    In short:

Values and well-being are interconnected. Fulfilling your values can lead to higher well-being, and higher well-being can make it easier to fulfill your values.

#455 Healing From Death of a Loved One Nov 03, 2023
    Show notes

Healing From Death of a Loved One

The death of a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences in life. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and everyone copes with loss in their own way. However, there are some things that can help you on your journey to healing.

Acknowledge your pain. It is important to allow yourself to feel your grief, no matter how difficult it is. Don't try to suppress your emotions or pretend that you are okay when you are not.

Talk to someone you trust. Talking about your feelings can help you to process your grief and start to heal. Talk to a friend, family member, therapist, or grief counselor.

Take care of yourself. Make sure to eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly. Taking care of yourself physically will help you to cope with the emotional stress of grief.

Join a support group. Support groups can provide you with a safe space to share your feelings and connect with other people who have experienced similar losses.

Be patient. Healing from the death of a loved one takes time. Don't expect to feel better overnight. Be patient with yourself and allow yourself to grieve at your own pace.

Here are some additional tips that may be helpful:

    • Honor the memory of your loved one. Find ways to keep their memory alive, such as looking through old photos and videos, talking about them with others, or creating a memorial in their honor.
    • Do things that you enjoy. It is important to continue to do things that make you happy, even if it is difficult at first. Spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, and engaging in activities that you find meaningful can help to lift your spirits.
    • Seek professional help if needed. If you are struggling to cope with your grief, don't be afraid to seek professional help from a therapist or grief counselor. A therapist can help you to understand your grief and develop coping mechanisms.

Remember, healing from the death of a loved one is a journey, not a destination. It takes time, patience, and self-compassion. Be gentle with yourself and know that you are not alone.

But because of our background and expectations, unless we die in a certain way or at a certain age, there can be a lot of negative judgment about our death or the deaths of others. Death isn't a failure; it is just one of the many things we must face in our journey through life.

#451 The Key to Happiness is: "Malleability" Oct 06, 2023
    Show notes

The Key to Happiness is: "Malleability"

Our world is changing at an unprecedented pace. How do we find happiness with all the changes we must adjust to? In this talk, we explore how "malleability" is the critical ingredient to experience happiness even with all the changes in our lives and worlds.

    • The world is changing rapidly and the key to happiness is to be able to adapt to change.
    • Malleability is the ability to be flexible and adaptable. It is the ability to change our minds, our behaviors, and our perspectives in order to thrive in a changing world.
    • There are a number of things we can do to become more malleable, such as:
      • Be open-minded. Be willing to consider new ideas and perspectives, even if they are different from our own.
      • Be adaptable. Be willing to change our plans and behaviors in response to changing circumstances.
      • Be resilient. Be able to bounce back from setbacks and failures.
    • Malleability is essential for happiness in all areas of our lives, from our careers to our relationships to our personal growth.

Here are some additional thoughts on the episode:

    • The episode discusses the importance of having a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that our abilities can be developed through hard work and dedication. People with a growth mindset are more likely to embrace challenges and learn from their mistakes.
    • The episode also discusses the importance of having a sense of purpose. A sense of purpose gives us a sense of direction and meaning in life. People with a strong sense of purpose are more likely to be happy and fulfilled.
    • Overall, the episode provides a valuable message about the importance of malleability for happiness. In a rapidly changing world, it is more important than ever to be able to adapt and change. By becoming more malleable, we can increase our chances of happiness in all areas of our lives.
