Mixing Business with Pleasure with Lo Wheeler - Episode 10 Nov 05, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode, Elizabeth interviews entrepreneur and salon owner, Lo Wheeler, on what it's like to be in business with her husband. Both Elizabeth and Lo work closely with their significant others on their business, and they discuss how navigating uncharted waters in entrepreneurship with your spouse or partner can be hectic, eye-opening, and rewarding.

Both Elizabeth and Lo agree that being in business with their partners has added another layer to their relationships, and has made it richer, but also more complicated. They both discuss the ongoing challenge of unplugging from the business side of things and taking time to connect as a couple.

"At the end of the day and I'm thinking about all my goals, pursuits, and dreams - he's right there with me."

If you're thinking about going into business with your significant other, Lo recommends thinking about it big picture-style and communicate how the two of you will balance the different parts of your lives. She also recommends establishing some sort of ritual together - to disconnect and connect as a couple.

For creatives and entrepreneurs, it can be easy to let your work totally consume you. Elizabeth and Lo discuss the details of how this has impacted their relationships and how they do their best to stay agile as things grow and evolve every day.

"We've been able to support each other to surpass our own abilities than we would have separately."

Lo and Elizabeth chat about how sacrifice is a key part of achieving great things, and Lo gives excellent advice about starting each day as a new day with new focus and goals. If connecting with family is the goal that's fine, if it's answering emails, that's fine too. If you want to do both, she recommends sticking to a schedule.

"If you are too soft on yourself, things just don't happen because life gets in the way."

Lo says that she is still learning how to balance being married to her business partner, and she says her current goals are to stay present, improve the quality of today, and set boundaries and goals for family life today."

Life Is Worth Living with KL Christoffersen (@mermicornhair) - Episode 7 Oct 15, 2018
    Show notes

Get ready for one of our most memorable episodes yet, featuring some absolute gems of wisdom from KL Christoffersen!

KL (also known as mermicornhair on IG) is widely known for her hair coloring techniques, but also teaches workshops and owns an amazing salon. In this episode KL and Elizabeth Faye chat about everything from their experience at Hair Love Retreat, KL's success on Instagram, to her personal health and life journey.

Reflecting on her experiences, KL reminds us that it's OK to not have it all together and you don't always need to put on a "strong" face when things are hard. The process of mourning a relationship, healing, and getting to know yourself again sometimes means spending time alone.

Many of us are stuck in survival mode - checking the clock, getting through the next client in your chair, and catching up on everyone's Instagram stories. Just going through the motions makes us forget to actually live.

In an era where we constantly see other people's happiest moments, whether it's on social media or in a commercial, KL shares how pain and struggle is part of it all - and that accepting it can help us grow.

KL says Hair Love Retreat 2018 reminded her to give herself grace and confidence, and start taking her treatment seriously.

    "I'm A Failure and So Are You" with Danny J - Episode 3 Sep 29, 2018
    Show notes

"When you've planted a seed and are watering it every day, you aren't going to immediately see the results."

How do you deal with discouragement? In this episode of Hair Love Radio, business coach Danny J chats with Elizabeth on failure's crucial role toward ultimate success.

"Talk about your failures and look for the good that came out of them." -Elizabeth

The most successful people have the most failures. What separates successful people from unsuccessful people is their will to keep going, and your commitment to your dream is what will push you past the failures and challenges that will inevitably be part of your journey.

"When times are most difficult, that is your opportunity to experience the most change."

Danny J shares her inspiring story as an entrepreneur going through failure and challenges following the economic crash, ultimately teaching her a powerful lesson about adaptation, patience and resilience. Failure is an important part of success. For Danny, that meant having mental breakdowns and crying in a Trader Joe's parking lot and learning to walk again - figuratively and literally.

"Our biggest enemy is our own mind."

    Fear, You Don't Own Me - Episode 2 Sep 29, 2018
    Show notes

Discomfort equals growth! In order to move toward things that we want in life, it takes doing things that are uncomfortable. In order to continue to evolve, we must put ourselves in positions that allow us to grow. Elizabeth shares some tips on how to conquer fear on your journey.

Positive self-talk and mantras. You have to workout your mindset just like you would your body. I am statements are a great way to silence that negative voice we all have. When we fill our mind and voice with new, positive ideas and mantras, it leaves less room for that negative voice.

High energy playlist. All music carries energy and vibrations. Have playlists prepared to help you raise or calm down your energy levels. This is also a great way to set a vibe in your salon. The power of music is a tool that is so helpful, and can help you conquer your fears, and increase your vibrational frequency.

All leaders are readers. Winners NEVER stop learning. You are on a constant journey, and you will have a hard time progressing if you aren't filling your mind with new things. Be someone who is continually reading and learning about new ideas.
