    Grown-Ass Woman’s Guide

Everyone sees a woman who has it together. What they don’t see is everything she’s holding in her head, running the house, the money, supporting everyone around her, with no instruction manual for any of it.
The Grown-Ass Woman’s Guide is for the woman who’s mistaken exhaustion for competence long enough to know busy isn’t the same as steady.
Each episode highlights experts in honest conversations about what actually runs a life: health, home, money, relationships, identity. The goal isn’t one more thing to manage. It’s trading the white-knuckling for a little more ease.
    Come find your people.

As we kick off the new year, millions of people are talking resolutions; making major shifts and changes in their lives. For me, I’m not a big fan of resolutions. We’ve seen it before and all know what happens five days, maybe a week later. Most people just give up. Instead, I am a big believer that what comes with a new year is a fresh opportunity to invigorate our lives, maybe set some goals; and there’s no better place to start than at home.

Carrie Leskowitz is a certified life coach and award-winning interior designer with over 20 years experience transforming both spaces and lives. In this episode of The Grown-Ass Woman’s Guide, Carrie shares tips to help create a more aligned space — simply and inexpensively; and she shares what not to do if you want more love, peace and abundance in your life.

If You've Been Thinking About Getting Sober Dec 23, 2022

The Grown-Ass Woman’s Guide will be back in January with all new episodes! Until then, enjoy this “Best of” episode created just for you. Have a very happy holiday season and I’ll talk with you in January!

In one of the most raw, honest episodes of TGAWG yet, I talk with TV personality, interior designer and life stylist Lauren Makk.

I met Lauren back in 2015 when I was working on a daytime syndicated TV show called FABLife. Lauren stood out to me at the time as someone who was very much, what you see is what you get, something I definitely admire, especially in that industry.

And, that hasn’t changed in the past six-plus years. In this episode, Lauren shares her journey to sobriety, what life looked like when she was drinking, the excruciatingly painful moment when she knew something needed to change, and what she’s learned about herself in the one year since putting down that Jack Daniel’s bottle.

Yay! Stress Less This Holiday Season Dec 09, 2022

The Grown-Ass Woman’s Guide will be back in January with all new episodes! Until then, enjoy this “Best of” episode created just for you. Have a very happy holiday season and I’ll talk with you in January!

“Holiday stress is not something you get, it’s something you create.” I wrote this little gem on Facebook eight years ago. Unlike other things I sometimes read from years ago, this time I actually agree with my younger self — wholeheartedly.

I believe that, along with the incredible challenges we have faced over the last year and a half, we have also been provided with some clarity; clarity in what matters and what we should prioritize. After years and years of holiday stress rinse and repeat, we had an opportunity to streamline and to simplify. I know, for me, I’m not ready to go back to the way things were. How about you?

Introducing: Media Circus Jul 07, 2022

Hi! I'm on a bit of a summer schedule but wanted to share something I thought you might like (produced by yours truly).
Media Circus takes an inside look at private tragedy in the public eye, and explores how the media got it right, got it wrong, and got in the way. In each episode, Victim Advocate and Author Kim Goldman gives us a fresh, behind-the-scenes look into high profile crimes you think you know, told by the victims and their families who were thrust into the spotlight in their most vulnerable moments. Media Circus connects you with the real people beyond the media coverage to share their stories -- in their own words, on their own terms.
Check it out and give it a favorite or follow.

    Lessons from a Chair Jun 27, 2022
    Show notes

On Ryan Rae Harbuck's Instagram, she refers to herself as a "word sifter, wheelie expert, boy mom and underwater dreamer." I'll add courageous woman, inspiring swimmer and badass mom to that description.
A paralyzing car accident in her teens left Ryan with a new life to build. In her book, When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Chair, Ryan shares a poignant message, "Everyone has a chair," that thing we are bound to or unwillingly defines you, an element that makes you different from the rest, one that you have little choice in the matter.
But it does not mean life is without choices. Ryan's story is a series of choices that will surprise, inspire and motivate you to life your own life to the fullest.

In one of the most raw, honest episodes of TGAWG yet, I talk with TV personality, interior designer and life stylist Lauren Makk.
I met Lauren back in 2015 when I was working on a daytime syndicated TV show called Fablife. Lauren, one of the co-hosts and resident interior designer, stood out to me at the time as someone who is very much, "what you see is what you get," something I definitely admire, especially in that industry. Six plus years later, she's still that way.
    In this episode, Lauren shares:

    • Her journey to sobriety, complete with twists and turns.
    • What life looked like when she was drinking. The excruciatingly painful moment when she knew something needed to change.
    • And what she's learned about herself in the one year since putting down the bottle.

    (More to come!)
About Lauren: Lauren Makk is an Interior Designer, Life Stylist, and popular TV Host seen on the Emmy Award winning Trading Spaces on TLC, Home Made Simple for the Oprah Winfrey Network, and Big Block Overhaul for HGTV. Lauren has also starred alongside Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen and Joe Zee as she co-hosted the hit talk show “FAB Life”, for ABC. More recently, Lauren has paved a way for a new generation of design leaders and makers as she was cast as judge on “Shop Class”, a kids design completion show on Disney + and “Design Star: Next Gen” for Discovery + - both streaming now.

A native of Oklahoma City, Lauren has lived everywhere from Philly to Honolulu, building businesses and creating design magic. More recently, Lauren has gotten married to the love of her life -Alvin Lozano, and moved to Nashville where they are raising their blended family of 5.

Never one to shy away from personal topics, Lauren has been candid about her major weight losses (and gains), and is coming clean about getting cleaner. Today Lauren is celebrating a full year of sobriety.

Pod Squad: What's On Your Mind? Jun 03, 2022
    Show notes

According to Oxford’s English Dictionary, a community is defined by a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals., and community just so happens to be one of the core values of GAWG. In this episode, I talk with grown-ass women, some of them listeners of the podcast and YouTube channel, all of them women over 40, in our first ever Pod Squad event.
So what is Pod Squad? It’s kind of like a book club, but we talk topics that come up on the GAWG podcast as well as discuss other things top of mind, and potential future podcast topics. I just hosted the first in the series and it certainly did not disappoint. A dozen women from all over the US and Canada, from different backgrounds and who each have their own unique life experiences, they all came together to exchange ideas, share opinions and provide insight — it was more than I could’ve ever imagined. And now I have a dozen new friends.

    We talk...

    • The great resignation
    • Life after divorce — especially when married a very long time
    • We began the discussion chatting about a recent episode with Dr. Marilyn Simmons Bowe

Thank you to the ladies who joined me for the very first GAWG pod squad event. Join me on Revel for the next one. It’s totally free and a lot of fun. Visit HelloRevel.com and click JOIN. Be sure to choose Grown-Ass Woman's Guide when asked how you heard about Revel. Message me there and scroll the hundreds of events offered. It’s really a cool experience.

If you’ve enjoyed this episode, or any of the episode of TGAWG, please share with a friend. And while you’re on your favorite podcast app, won’t you take a few seconds and give us a rating and review? It would be totally appreciated.
