Why Church Matters | Sunday Message Jan 07, 2024

Show notes

In this message, Pastor Adam helps us remember "why church matters." We'll take a look at Hebrews for important points.

Notes:

Hebrews 10:19—25

Hebrews 4:12

Hebrews 4:15—16

Hebrews 6:19

We must go to God.
We must hold on to hope.
We must motivate each other.

Only 24% of our congregation attended Harvest at least once per month on average.

76% attended less than once per month.

Only 11% went to at least half the Sundays in 2023.

1. We must go to God.

The Church exists for 3 reasons:

The exaltation of God (Upward)
The edification of the saints (Inward)
The evangelization of the world (Outward)

2. We must hold on to hope.

Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV)

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

3. We must motivate each other.

Let's Talk About Heaven, Part 1 | Preparing for Heaven Jan 05, 2024

Show notes

Each year, about 27 million people in this country move . . . relocate. That may explain why there are 17,000 moving companies across the fruited plain. When we move, try to find out some details about our new home. Well today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie provides some details about our eternal home. The Bible gives us more detail than you may be aware. And none of us knows our moving date, so it’s a good idea to get that information now and be prepared.

How to Fight the Spiritual Battle | Putting on Armor Jan 04, 2024

Show notes

Some professions have specialty clothing . . . and it saves lives. Firefighters have “turnout pants and jackets” to protect against heat. Police officers wear kevlar vests. Soldiers have vests and helmets and boots. As we’ll learn today, Christian soldiers have specialty clothing, as well. But too many of us don’t know much about it. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us get to know our six pieces of spiritual armor, and how we can use them in spiritual battle.

How to Fight the Spiritual Battle | The Battle Around Us Jan 03, 2024

Show notes

The old evangelist Billy Sunday said, “Temptation is the devil looking through the keyhole. Yielding is opening the door and inviting him in.” How many of us have our fingerprints on the doorknob, and wonder why we fell to the devil’s lures? Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie brings us good insight on the spiritual environment we’re living in. It’s a look at the spiritual battle being waged all around us, whether we realize it or not . . . and how we’re all combatants in the fight.

Which Side Are You On? | The Danger of Idols Jan 02, 2024

Show notes

We throw the word idol around pretty freely in our culture. “So-and-so is a teen idol” . . . “did you watch American Idol?” . . . “Humphrey Bogart was a matinee idol.” But biblically speaking, an idol is a representation or symbol of an object of worship. It’s a clear transgression of the First Commandment. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie warns about idol worship based on an epic confrontation in First Kings 18. Elijah goes toe to toe with the prophets of Baal.

Which Side Are You On? | Waiting on God Jan 01, 2024

Show notes

None of us likes to wait. Like when we’re on hold hearing that annoying music repeat over and over again. Or when we’re in line at the grocery store or the airport. Or in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, and our name is finally called and we go to the exam room to . . . wait some more. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out that when we wait on GOD, it can renew us. We’ll see some great miracles took place through the prophet Elijah AFTER a time of waiting on the Lord.

Notes:

Two words stand out in our 50-year history: Faithfulness and faith. The faithfulness of God and our response of faith to His calling.

Jesus promised to the church: “The gates of Hell shall not prevail against us.”

God has remained faithful to lead, protect, and guide us each step of the way.

2 Thessalonians 3:3

“The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. I have a beautiful inheritance.”

Psalm 16:6

“Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1

Faith is not just intellectual ascent; it is also action. Faith is belief plus action. Faith is a living, restless thing; it cannot be inoperative.

What saves is faith alone, but the faith that saves is never alone.

How does faith come? By listening, studying, and immersing yourself with the Word of God.

Romans 10:17

Theology without apology.

Worshiping

Evangelizing

Learning

Loving

Faith can make the difference between something happening and not happening.

Faith sees what could be; a believer sees invisible things.

Read: Matthew 14:28–31

Faith is the refusal to panic, and it has no back door.

When you have a lapse of faith, call out to Jesus!

Matthew 14:30–31

“Little faith” is one word in the Greek.

With Peter’s eyes back on Jesus, “little faith” walked back to the boat.

Matthew 14:32

We should never believe our doubts and doubt our beliefs. We should believe our beliefs and doubt our doubts.

“Your faithfulness continues from generation to generation.”

Psalm 119:90

Teach God’s Word faithfully. Invite people to come to Christ. Preach the gospel to our culture.
