Show notes

Welcome to Graymalkin Lane, episode 1! Named after the street where the X-Men made their own home, away from a world that rejected them, Graymalkin Lane the podcast is a place for queer friends and allies to review the original X-Men comics in thoughtful and hilarious ways. Whether you love the X-Men from the movies, the comics, or the cartoons, you are sure to learn a lot and have some amazing laughs along the way.

Chad Anderson sits down with his friends Heather, Helaman, and Taylor to have an in-depth discussion on X-Men #1, from 1963! We review each of the original characters, have in-depth discussions on queer identity as it relates to the X-Men, and take a deep dive into comic book nerd-land as we discuss old continuity from a 2021 perspective. We agree that Professor X is a huge jerk, Beast is thicc, Angel hiding his wings is a lot like queer people hiding their light, Jean Grey is no damsel in distress, Cyclops is a suck-up, there are early signs that Iceman is gay, and Magneto's half-cape is a major fashion faux pas.

Give us a listen! Let us know what you loved, what made you laugh, and what you want more of in future episodes!

Show notes

In 1963, the X-Men were launched, and would go on to inspire fans for decades. The X-Men lived on Graymalkin Lane, with the family they formed when the rest of the world rejected them. In Graymalkin Lane the podcast, host Chad Anderson (former writer on Marvel's Official Handbook line) gathers queer friends to read and review the original comics one at a time.

Take a deep dive into X-Men nerddom as we riot about the ridiculous, pontificate the problematic, and find inspiration in beloved characters back at their very beginning.
