Salt and Light | Matthew 5:13-16 | Pastor Micah Stephens Jan 19, 2025

Show notes

In "Salt & Light," Pastor Micah Stephens draws from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew to discuss the roles of Christians in the world, using the recent California fires as a metaphor for preservation and illumination. He explains that just as salt preserves and light dispels darkness, believers are called to uphold God's will and spread His light across the earth. Stephens warns that salt without its preserving power and light that fails to shine are useless, echoing Jesus's intent in these teachings. This sermon is a call to action, reminding Christians not to hide their light or lose their preserving influence, as doing so renders them ineffective in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Blessed Are The Poor | Matthew 5:1-20 | Pastor Rob McCoy Jan 12, 2025

Show notes

In "Blessed Are The Poor," Pastor Rob McCoy kicks off a series on the Beatitudes, starting with "the poor in spirit" from the book of Matthew. He challenges the notion that the Beatitudes are merely steps to gain blessings, explaining instead they describe the state of those already blessed. McCoy identifies pride as the original sin and contrasts it with being poor in spirit, which is recognizing one's need for God and submitting to His superior wisdom. Living this truth, he teaches, leads to profound blessings and an inheritance in the kingdom of heaven.
