Move over sexy angels God is about to show us what he is working with. This week grab your favorite beverage because we are checking God out and seeing if they are as great as advertised.

Episode 38: Blake Chastain gets Moody Feb 17, 2022

Show notes

Hey friends this is a special week on the pod as we welcome Blake Chastain to the open bar that is Go Home Bible; You're Drunk.

For those of you that don't know Blake is the creator of the Exvangelical Podcast and if you have ever used that hashtag you have him to thank for coining and popularizing it. He also helped found Irreverent Media Group which is one of the reasons this podcast exists!

Blake is on the pod today to talk a bit about the relationship between evangelicalism and capitalism and you better have a drink in hand because those roots go super deep. We also dive into the cultural phenomenon that is the bearded theobro, how Dwight L. Moody sold out, and why you have German anarchists to thank for the 8 hour work day.

It's a delight, hope you enjoy.

Episode 37: David and Jonathan sitting in a tree... Feb 10, 2022

Show notes

Hey friends one or more of us decided to switch things up and bring you the first episode of Go Home Bible; You're High! It isn't an experiment that we plan to do again any time soon but we do what we must for you, the people.

This week we dive into the torrid love affair that is David and Jonathan. Whether they were actually LGBTQ or not we think this story and how evangelicals react to it is both telling and fascinating. We also get into burning and banning books, the excellence that is satanic doo-wop, and how toxic masculinity isn't good for anyone.

It's a trip, quite literally for one or more of us, and we hope you enjoy.

Episode 34: The Bible is not prolife Jan 20, 2022

Show notes

What more do we need to say folks; the Bible is not prolife and neither are the evangelicals that claim to love it. In this episode we get into the roots of the so called prolife movement, our personal histories in how we deconstructed our views of abortion, and where we can go from here. Grab your favorite beverage; it's a doozie.

Episode 33: Ehud makes the dirt fall out. Jan 13, 2022

Show notes

This week we plunge deeply into the story of Ehud the left handed assassin of kings. He doesn't get much screen time in the Bible but he makes the most of it by killing a man on the toilet and living to tell about it. You can't make this stuff up so grab you favorite beverage; this one gets messy.

In addition to this odd tale we talk about Pope Francis, having kids, and why it's not hard to be not problematic. It's a ride. Enjoy!

Episode 31: Merry Christmas to Upper Middle Class Jesus Dec 09, 2021

Show notes

This week we decide to crash Matthew's Christmas party and see the story of Jesus' birth from his perspective. Things did not clear up. There are random astrologers, a King that can't see a star a few miles from his house and random gifts you know got regifted. We also talk about the greatest gift evangelical's want to see under their tree this year which will drive any sane person to drink.

It's a good one folks and we hope that wherever you are and whatever you are celebrating this month it is full of all the good things. Happy Holidays.

Episode 30: Jesus' birth is a mess but having a body is good Dec 02, 2021

Show notes

Merry Holiday Festivus time! Grab your favorite beverage its time to talk about Jesus' birth and ponder the mystery of why God planned it this way because it is hella problematic. We also decipher the lyrics of the new worship song, "Let's Go Brandon" and get into the weeds on Roman taxation cause we are Bible nerds.

All that said, It's a good one friends because in spite of the mess that is this story we do find a way to come back home to our bodies and celebrate that being here, now, is one of the best things we can do. Enjoy!
