1.20 - Cake | Jennifer Aniston May 19, 2020

Show notes

Don't let the name fool you, the cake served on this stop of the #JenJourney is dense. Jennifer Aniston delivers her strongest acting performance yet, portraying a deep, emotional character. Not your usual Jen film, but worth a watch to see how far she can stretch. Bonus: Anna Kendrick plays a ghost.
Please note: this film’s themes center around tragedy, depression, suicide, and prescription drug addiction. If you or someone you know is struggling with any of these, here are some resources:

1.19 - Friends with Money | Jennifer Aniston May 12, 2020

Show notes

What started as sincere hope watching some of our favorite actors scroll by in the opening credits turned into genuine boredom and a slightly furrowed brow as we searched for the plot in the slow film, Friends with Money. Despite the boredom, we still felt some serious rage towards a skeezy gym bro (gotta unite on something here). Maybe we just need to rub some Lancôme face cream on and shrug it off, but this movie had such potential & it just fell a little flat. Giving Jennifer Aniston some room to grow into her character would've made this a little more worth the rental fee. If you're looking for a sleepy film that doesn't require any thought whatsoever, this might be up your alley. But overall, we recommend skipping this stop on the #JenJourney and listening to our review instead!

1.18 - Mother's Day | Jennifer Aniston May 05, 2020

Show notes

Our #JenJourney continues with one of those classic films with a bunch of intertwining story lines and a star-studded cast. Mother's Day, released in 2016, actually has some surprising moments (Julia Roberts looking like a ginger Willy Wonka being one of them....). Jennifer Aniston is flawless, per usual, and exhibits strong character throughout. No question she is one of the best actors in this movie. Bonus: Jason Sudeikis in salmon pants.

1.17 'Til There Was You | Jennifer Aniston Apr 30, 2020

Show notes

We made this stop on the #JenJourney so you wouldn’t have to! This movie isn’t so bad that you have to watch it, but it IS so bad that you have to listen to our review. First of all, yes we DID watch this on Youtube. Jennifer Aniston is probably in a whole three minutes of this otherwise unremarkable film. The plot is overly complicated, acting was a bit overdone, and the main character was just annoying. Sarah Jessica Parker was the best part of this movie, even if her makeup throughout was reminiscent of her character in Hocus Pocus.

1.16 - Dumplin' | Jennifer Aniston Apr 28, 2020

Show notes

Jennifer Aniston gets in touch with some southern (and blonder) roots on this stop of our #JenJourney. The 2018 film Dumplin’ will leave you rooting for the underdog, cheering for teenage romance, and wondering if you can do any magic tricks. Set up a Dolly Parton playlist and settle in for this feel good film.

1.15 - The Bounty Hunter | Jennifer Aniston Apr 21, 2020

Show notes

Our #JenJourney brings us to one of Jennifer Aniston's strongest and arguably most likable characters in the 2010 film The Bounty Hunter! In this film, Gerard Butler plays Milo, a bounty hunter, who is assigned to pick up his ex-wife Nicole, a reporter, who jumped bail. Jen's character Nicole is a true boss babe - a woman who can hulk out to rip a door apart, fall into a pond and look like she just did a GQ shoot, and solve the mystery behind a case she's following! We stopped to muse if Jen has ever had a zit in her whole life, and once again made a note to figure out who her spray tan artist is. This plot is action-packed and full of comedy and romance that doesn't feel TOO cheesy. Jason Sudeikis's presence alone adds an extra half point. Come for Jen's hair (it looks good in a banana clip, come ON), and stay for the sneaky taser scene.

1.14 - Wanderlust | Jennifer Aniston Apr 14, 2020

Show notes

Join us on our #JenJourney as we visit a hippie commune in the 2012 film Wanderlust, starring Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd, and Justin Theroux. A star-studded cast provides a lot of laughs, but limited character development. Of note are Jen’s stellar hair, a nod to Grape Lady Falls, and slow-mo nude running (not the sexy kind).

1.12 - Derailed | Jennifer Aniston Mar 31, 2020

Show notes

Derailed is the next stop on our #JenJourney! A great blend of action and drama, this is truly unlike any other Jennifer Aniston film we've watched. We would deem this a "must-see" given the range Jen shows with her acting. Despite some clear lack of Chicago knowledge, we were pumped to find a rather unknown movie rise pretty high in our rankings! Tune in to find out more!

1.11 - Love Happens | Jennifer Aniston Mar 24, 2020

Show notes

Our #JenJourney brings us to Love Happens this week. It's a slightly predictable romantic drama about being true to yourself. Jennifer Aniston plays a florist who is extremely likable with a dash of quirk alongside Aaron Eckhart. Fair warning that the name of the film sounds like a sweet romcom, but it is heavier than you might expect...If you're looking to shed a couple sappy tears, this is for you.
